I found what I thought was going to be an outstanding sniper rifle. It's a Beretta M501. I've added a 10x scope, a laser sight, a flash suppressor, and a bipod. However I can't seem to figure out how to get it to work as well as I'd expect. Aiming at an enemy that's maybe 30-40 spaces away, merc is proned, enemy is within vision range. Yet when I try to take a shot adding AP's barely changes the CTH circle. It remains red and unreasonably large. I get better results with a merc using an AK.

The only thing I can think of is that I'm too close... yet 30-40 spaces seems like a reasonable distance to be able to focus on an enemy, and it's the range that most of my engagements occur at. Do I really need to be further away? Or is there something I'm not thinking of that's gimping the accuracy? Ivan is the merc using it, and he's got 92 marksmanship. I just have no idea what the problem is.

First, Ivan isn't a sniper. He will suffer a penalty for using anything other than ARs/SMGs or heavy weapons. Those are his weapon proficiencies.

Second, a 10x scope is more or less useless on standard maps with NCTH. It's minimum range is 49 tiles (NORMAL_SHOOTING_DISTANCE = 70 * scope factor /10 * SCOPE_RANGE_MULTIPLIER = 0.7). For a sniper rifle you will have better results with a 7x scope (minimum range 34). Also AIM_TOO_CLOSE_THRESHOLD = 0.8 in CTHConstants.ini in responsible for the starting point where scope penalty kicks in. The default of 0.8 will lower the minimum range for penalty to 27 instead of 34 tiles.

Arulco Revisited NCTH config is broken. It is not trolling or whatever.

There is a huge problem with balance:
- the item properties (scopes in the game) ARE NOT BALANCED against NCTH parameters
- as the result it appears that 10x scope minimum range is 49 tiles and the maxim sight range with 10x scope is less than 40 tiles. (it gives like 50% bonus to sight i believe)

To solve it you need to manually increase sight bonus for all scopes in the game.

Also in NCTH max aperture is 20, while in AFS it is 10, no ironsight bonuses and other stuff which makes shooting a pain in the arse.

if memory serves, the laser sight is useless on a sniper rifle unless your taking a quick shot at point blank. Another thing to check on in the ini files.

all around range of 20-40 tiles, an AR with a 4x scope will give you much better results, from 30-60 a 7x scope on any decent rifle should be ok. Using a merc or imp with marksman/sniper traits will significantly help.
if your not already using it, the stock data overhaul will help some.

Yes, you would need a BIG laser to have an effect at ranges where sniper rifles are usually used. A normal laser sight has a range of 10 tiles so it is best used with pistols, shotguns and SMGs in close combat.
