Hello JA community

I've been following the modding scene for some years and finally decided to make a mod I'd like play.
And I like to share it.

The main idea of the mod is to get rid of some restrictions like the merc skill caps, add some variety to weapon stats so one can have more freedom in character development.
Target group of this mod are JA2 veterans those know how to install mods.
This mod is work in progress and is in a "technology demo" state, which means, its highly unstable, has lot of bugs and will probably crash often.

Long term goals for the mod:

- free character development
Id like to provide freedom for the character development, such as you didn't have in JA2.
This may be get imbalanced in late geme, when your char has high skill values, and someone would say this is not with the spirit of Jagged Alliance.
I see this just as an experiment and it maybe turns out a new side of JA.

- high item variety
despite of the high amount of weapons that is given by the game out of the box, I just want more stuff and more different stuff.
I just get bored when I see 14 PM's dropping and each have the same values.
Maybe I make something like Affix/Suffix system like many action RPG's(diablo) already use.

- mod independence
In this case I want the mod to be resource independent. You should be able to combine it with any other mod by just exchanging one or 2 files.
This may be a difficult task but its not a high priority atm.

- more action
This I basically just an idea but I want to have less planning and more action oriented approach.

Current features:

- Skill caps have been removed and new maximum is set to 999. So you can basically level your marksmanship up to 999 and shoot across the map.
Atm the increase above 100 is tested with marksmanship successfully. The rest(including level) haven't been tested yet.

- Level cap is set to 100 instead of 10.

- weapon damage gets generated like this: base damage + random( 1 to base damage )
This is just for testing purposes and unlikely will fit the balance.

- Action points get full bonus

- Enemies get full action point bonus (check with Alt in turn based mode)

- Enemies health and AP's scales with level.

Installation instructions:
There is probably an easier way to do this but this is how it worked out for me.

1. Install a fresh JA2.

2. get and install recent pathes from JA2 v1.13 Page
I used patch 7435 + update 7609.

3. get and install recent SCI from "thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com/index.php?t=msg&th=20380&prevloaded=1&&start=0"
I used SCI_Unstable_Revision_7835_on_GameDir_2235.7z

4. Download the mod package and extract + overwrite in JA2 folder.
JA2 Action Hero Download

5. Adjust Screen resolution in ja2.ini.

6. Start "JA2_EN_Release.exe" to play.

At this point you should have a read warning message after the intro screen.

Start a new game (leave all seeting at default to prevent unexpected CDT's) and create a IMP char as usual.

--------
I would highly appreciate if someone could test the mod and see if it works.
Please tell what you like or dislike, any ideas/suggestion are welcome.

Also if someone have bugs to report, please try to attach a detailed description, screens, savegames if possible.
--------
Known bugs
- When creating IMP char with health above 100 the char freezes and cannot move until prone + stealth.

Pick step 2 XOR step 3, depending on what source you used, never both.

I do something similar to this with every game I play, as far as characters go. Its just a few things you need to edit in the INI editor and... oh wait, I forget. Its a file you can edit in notepad, that limits the skills and abilities allowed per IMP character. What's the file again? I don't even remember the names of the values. I haven't done this in a while. I've had the same install and personally modded game for a while now.

At any rate I call these types of characters "Heroes", character's who's skills and abilities exceed what is normally possible. Like an ex-special ops navy seal who's a spy, martial arts stealth and melee expert, and has a mastery or is at least talented with nearly every weapon skill. I send him in with a slightly less heroic character, before the rest of the team to weaken enemies before the rest attack, or to get intelligence, kill enemies for their gear, buy things from merchants in enemy controlled sectors, search for supplies, or even take an entire sector under cover of night. There are other hero type characters I make, like the leader, sniper, mechanic, machine gunner, heavy weapons and explosives expert, etc.

Sry for the big delay.

I have removed the bin and build folder from the project.
Try to compile it, if it comes to problems, give me a shout.

The only thing thave I have changed from the release above is that you get AP's on every successful shot. There fore Action hero.
I was testing it, to see how it feels like.

And yeahm, all NSA-ware have been removed. Just in case. ;)

Also I want to say that I probably will abandon this project.

Its because of many things.

One is that I have realized, that the JA Community is not as strong as I thought. Maybe I should have come here 10 years earlier.
I mean, there is not much(no) traffic on this forum, and thats the top forum about JA2. Tell me if I am wrong.

Another thing is that I have some personal things to care of at the moment.

So, I have posted my recent sourcecode. I have invested alot of time to do it. Please take care of it and take care.
I claim no rights on it, so make with it what you want.

If you have questions, go for it. I will answer as soon as possible.
