When I post observations like this I hope you don't feel put under pressure to invest even more time on your wonderful tweak. Like most 1.13 users I try to save every new equipment config, every sector freed so finding out about the I8 roof for example made me look for a better opportunity to defend (with Matt and Ruiz holed up in the barracks) against over 50 troops - and I managed happy

There is so much yet to find out in my current savegame and so many well thought-out tactical challenges that I won't be bored with this for a good while to come!

That's what I'm talking about!

Ok, here it goes: when trying to repair the Warden's Jeep, the assignment on the top left displays "Robot", since I haven't got the robot, the task flashes red. Same goes for trying to interrogate prisoners. I don't get it to work anywhere, with any of my high-leadership mercs. What's the catch? Would I have to handcuff some baddies and drag them into the prisons?

Edit: Regarding the impossibility to repair that Jeep, the vehicle took some damage on its "maximum health". Since in vanilla JA afaik vehicles were disregarded by the enemy and are now often shot at directly, could it be the the code sees the robot as the only mechanical unit to lose max health points?

Game considers, I believe, jeep and ElDorado, as mercs, so enemy always aims for these vehicles. This was the case, as far as I can remember, ever since these cars were first used in mod.

Likewise, ice cream truck and humvie are always ignored.

In stock 1.13 7609, AI will not shoot at empty vehicles, in Ja2+AI this restriction was removed.

Can you reproduce the repair bugs with stock 1.13 ja2.exe?
Vehicles should not lose max health, looks like a code bug.

In order to interrogate prisoners you must first capture them -- handcuff them and put them in prison. Doesn't work on named characters.

I know about the Jeep repair problem, and can confirm it happens with all the extra vehicles -- dunno why, and figure it is a code problem.

Hey there happy This is one awesome mod, I am having tones of fun playing it, did some small changes to preferences for myself but in general it has nice JA2 Expanded vibe. Apart from that I found small workaround for the crashes when you right click on some new items (just having black screen) like M25A2 Tear Gas or N0.36M Mk.1 Mills Bomb.

I looked around the properly working M61 Grenade as it was also a new item but it was properly working so I played with some strings in Items.xml file. Turns out, for example for Mills Bomb, if you change the line ubGraphicNum>1113</ubGraphicNum> to ubGaphicNum>931</ubGraphicNum> the icon starts to look like M61 Grenade but when you right click on it then it has all of its descriptions and properties properly. Same for M25A2 Tear Gas, changing that line gives the M61 Grenade icon but no crashes on right click.

Maybe there is something wrong with uploaded pictures for those grenades when you try to have expanded view for them? Hope this helps, again very awesome mod. happy

Started anew with Dec 31 upgrades. San Mona was abandoned: no Angel & Maria, no Hans, no Tony, no Brenda, no tattoo guy - only that new weapons merchant (I have a list of about 50 weapons he does not want and it grows with every visit). Lately I prefer to go to Alma after Drassen - not a very good idea really as after cleaning Cambria of confederates my popularity drops to 0 (or 3, thats not much better) everywhere. But: after searching the bodies after a battle in Cambria I found... Deed to Angel's shop. Sadly, nobody is interested.

Stiletto is still a wonder weapon. My guy is sitting on the roof. Bad guy climbs up and stays just in front of him. As sniper rifle is of no use in such situation, I take pistol. Doing some damage, APs expire, bad guy is critical but conscious, ready to shoot. But I have stiletto. No damage, AP +1. After repeating 20 times I can use pistol again and finish him.

Now an observation that may be of use. Not only with Weasel but with other snitches too: whatever you do, do not make 'em snitch or spread propaganda straight from chopper or car. They will not leave the vehicle. Ever. Put him into some squad. To be on the safe side, remove all kinds of vehicles from the sector. Only after that appoint him to snitch.

And I've never handcuffed prisoners. If the option of interrogating stays red, just change weapon. Even Dynamo can do some interrogating - just that Dynamo with pistol is about twice as scary as Dynamo with toolbox. And Dynamo with a big gun is twice scarier than Dynamo with pistol...

Well! I don't know what to say about the missing NPCs. I've never encountered any but Tony being missing (and actually, he's there, just that Hans wouldn't say that).

The new merchant is designed to be a specialty gun trader -- not another Tony. He's got a few weapons Tony doesn't have, and he's got a bunch of, what can be considered, 'collectibles', as well as a smattering of common weapons.

The Stiletto is fixed for the next update.

As to the Snitch-Vehicle Bug -- that's a new one on me, and probably a code issue. I've never tried snitching from a vehicle, though.

Dynamo is scary all the time! :-)

The 05-March-2017 Update for Arulco Vacations v1.08 is now available for download at the usual spot. The Complete Install includes the latest Update, and is 776 MB in size. I recommend downloading the Complete Install if possible, not just the new Update, in order to minimize installation woes. This Update is NOT save-game compatible. You will need to start a new game with new I.M.P.s

I am exhausted so this is a quick message. Once again I apologize for not updating the blog for the last few months. Now that this Update to v1.08 is out I am going to slow down on the AV Updates, and concentrate more on the blog and actually playing a full campaign!

This 05-March-2017 Update (included in the full Install also) fixes many of the bugs and glitches that had crept in to previous versions. I spent most of the past 3 months tracking down bugs, smoothing out rough spots, and polishing the shiny ones. As usual, very many aspects of the game got in-depth attention, and are modified from the last Update. It is well worth a new game.

This Update includes more fantastic I.M.P. portraits by D.G. to diversify your playing experience. There are now 61 total I.M.P. portraits to choose from, with more planned.

I highly recommend downloading the Complete Install to minimize installation woes. This Update is NOT save-game compatible. You will have to start a new game, using new I.M.P.s.

i'll try fresh install after an upgrade or two - but i'm now trying to finish the game with some unexpected (and therefore interesting) limitations. as said: no terrorists, only Mary in Chitzena, only chief miner in Grumm, only Keith and those two new merchants buying anything. to balance it a bit i switch zombies off when fighting in cities - after the unhappy event of zombies eating Skipper and my reputation falling to zero everywhere - again! and tigers spawn - i had to clean both nests twice before Auntie rised my reputation in Alma by 7%.

what i really wanted to say: due to the double fence the NW rocket base is now easier to attack and also easier to defend than in vanilla - to say nothing about the Wildfire version. and seems like one key fits all locks. in fact, my IMP with mech 55 and not much of a repairer has 4 keys: of door, of padlock, of cell and of cabinet, picked up probably in Alma. but with those 4 he can open almost every lock in whole Arulco.

i hope to find more surprises happy

The next major update for AV is (hopefully) months away. One of the projects I will be embarking on for that future upgrade is to re-visit every map sector to fix problems and to tweak the designs with what I have learned since originally making them.

Also, the keys . . . I've had that project on the shelf for a while also -- making keys more specific so they are all not 'master keys'.

Yo Ed, just to let you know that I actually finished AV today (42 in-game days). Fantastic RPG feelings all round with surprises (good or bad...) in nearly every sector.

Getting an Unhandled Exception when browsing Bobby Rays. Using 7609 with AI 411. The error seems to occur particularly when browsing MGs I think.
Edit. Tried using regular 7609. Straight to desktop. Happens on Page 7 or 8 when browsing.

i have dowloaded ja2 av 1/08 full relase,instaled[clean install] on ja2 1.13 2188/7679.exe handgrenades[he,stun or napalm dont working properly,they do do not explode,single shot launchers workin all right,this build i have for ja2 av 1.07 with no problems

The latest update has the new JA2_Options.INI setting of DELAYED_GRENADE_EXPLOSION set to TRUE. This causes all grenades not set to explode on impact (which includes most hand grenades) to explode the next combat turn. This has a profound effect on grenade tactics. Setting DELAYED_GRENADE_EXPLOSION to FALSE will have the grenades behave as they used to.

Hi, I tried setting up the mod using the version just above the official release because I wanted the IMP starting gear feature. The game crashes however with a lua error related about the starting cash. No matter the difficulty level. Is there a way of fixing this?

Unfortunately, Arulco Vacations doesn't support features added after the 7609 release (except the fixes and features added to the 7609 executable mod by Sevenfm, but that's a whole other ball of wax (so to speak a colloquialism)).

At this time I don't know what modifications to AV are necessary to include the IMP starting gear and custom difficulty levels. The starting cash was simply moved to another XML file, IIRC. I plan to make a "v2" of AV that uses the latest at the time version of 1.13 -- but at this time I am at a loss to say what, of many, changes are necessary.

Yep, I figured the difficulty settings was somewhere else. I even tried to frankenstein a solution by added the lines manually on the ini but that didn't work. The reason I was insistent on starting gear is because I was trying to make a Resident Evil themed Let's Play, where the protagonists had to leave most of their fancy gear before they boarded that chopper to Arulco (from the amount of gear they were going to take, they somehow thought their chopper was a Chinook or a Super Stallion). I'm still working on getting the zombies working properly, looks like enabling wave zombie resurrections causes zombies to never spawn.

You need to change GameInit.lua, in function InitNewGame():

AV uses modified GameInit.lua in Data-AV\Scripts, you can compare it with GameInit.lua from new Data-1.13\Scripts and see if there are other changes.

I tried making them the same but after I copied the starting cash option from the Data 1.13/Scripts folder from what you posted, the game now refuses to open GameInit. Looks like I should have taken more programming classes in college cheeky

Oops! That is because I don't have an 8-round magazine in .40 S&W defined in Magazines.XML. A workaround would be to edit the P7M10 in Weapons.XML to have <ubMagSize>14</ubMagSize>

I'll fix an 8-rnd mag or replace the P7M10 with something else in the next update. Moving things around in Magazines.XML can be treacherous.

iov have walther compact with 8 round magazine,maybe you can look inside xml for right value

if you try load 5.7x28 aet ammo in fn five seven,you get boxes with 4.7x33 ap ammo

Hi, I didn't played JA2 since years, I just finished a 1.13 game to get with the new features and systems, congrats to all modders for their impressive work, it's a whole new game now.

Now I am trying to play your AV mod, seems perfect for me as I don't want bigger map ( only less "empty" sector ) and hardcore difficulty, but i'm having some small issues with my first game.

I am playing with the 7435 French release + 7609 update and AV 1.08 + Fix-1 update, on a Windows 8.1 laptop, i did't changed anything in the game folder, except the windows compatibility and 16bits colors mode to the exe.


First my INI settings didn't get applied in game, I can play with your mod properly without crashes so i don't get it, maybe ( certainly ? ) I have misunderstood install notes, I can't post screenshots here until my 11th message, I will post it with my game folder anywhere else if needed.

Skyrider doesn't launch his speech after escorting him to Drassen and I can't recruit him, he just stop himself at each step near the helicopter, he is still an escorted civilian, I can unescort him and the helicopter is available and have no bugs, not a big problem but I guess this isn't supposed to be like that. I played few days in game to check other recruitable merc, no problem with Hamous, Conrad, Maddog, Angel/Maria etc...

I also noticed the Scope's SAS hat is considered as pants, not helmet, and the Belgium AIM merc (Veinard in French, should be "Lucky" ) got a FNp90 with his third gear, the gun disapear when i recruit him him ( even before loading the first A9 Omerta sector ).

I saw your blog, your mod look like a well balanced game with the new backgrounds/skills, thanks for that.

Thanks for trying AV. First, I recommend downloading the Arulco Vacations v1.08 Update 19-June-2017 (29.22 MB) which I just now uploaded. You will have to start a new game, however. It fixes some annoying problems. This is the 4th Update for v1.08, and fixes a lot of things after the first update. At the moment I am playing a campaign and taking notes on modifications to make for v1.09.

I must apologize that my blog is out of date. I started it when I had a lot of free time, but in the last year I have not had any time to update it.

When you change INI settings, make sure you change the INI files in the ../Data-AV folder.

Skyrider has been a problem. Try recruiting him through the dialog box now that you've un-escorted him. Otherwise, if you have a save from before entering Drassen with him, try repeatedly until the script catches.

I've changed Lucky's 3rd load-out. He doesn't get the P90 anymore. Sorry about that.

I don't know what's up with Scope's SAS Beret. It is a copy of the Red Beret with only the graphic changed.

I've been modding this using Sevenfm's enhanced 7609+AI executable so there will be very different AI behaviour with the default 7609. I don't know if Sevenfm has a French version of his executable.

It is possible to make French version of Ja2+AI, but someone will have to make all language specific xml files for French version at least by simply copying needed xml files and also make items.xml using script.

Thanks for your fast answers. I tried to recruit Skyrider trough dialogue box, but it didn't worked, Several reload save before entering doesn't work either, but i can use helicopter so it's a detail. I was already pointing INI settings to AV folder, I don't know why it doesn't change anything.

I did a new JA2 install, with 7435FR + 7609 update, and AV1.08 + 4th update and use 7609+AI r426 executable to launch the game, seems to work even with 7435 french release, half english game isn't a problem, INI settings is working properly now and game look like stable after few days in game passed.

I will post any issues here, thanks again for your help !

Not sure if bug considering how autistic this mod is but no matter where I train militia in Drassen my reputation slowly drops every hour even with three snitches working full time no matter which sector I train in. thumbs down nvm, now that I got everyone in the middle sector problems seem to have stopped. Weird.
I already searched the whole Arulco Vacations website and didn't find the reason for that.
Is it that certain mercenaries are just troublemakers and make trouble in every town or some other random reason? Do I have to solve every town related quest first? What gives?

Is it if mercs are doped up? Does the snitch midnight info mean anything and is it possible to shut them up? And why does Col. Leon Roachburn not prevent other mercs getting high? Or is that only if he is in their squad?

Oh, and one spoiler please. Where do I find Manuel? He isn't anywhere around Drassen it seems.
