Now ain't that a kick in the head! OK, here's a download link for a fixed map sector that has a roof on the building. Simply unzip and merge this into your main game folder, overwriting D4.dat and D4.sti.

Yes, I just noticed that before releasing the End-of-Month Update. I had hoped what I did in the Update fixed that problem. Are you using the Update from December 1?

I missed that end of the month update it seems. However, I have noticed that you don't get anything as you extract the ammo from SMLE or RPD, as if the models for .303 and 7.62x39 drumm do not exist.

In sector C3, I have run into Ice Cream truk, but without Hamous. Vechicle is listed as None and even though you can drive it, it moves at slower speed then walking.

That is (should be) fixed in the update, and also can be fixed with Sevenfm's latest exe as he included a bit of code Flugente wrote specifically for such problems.

That was reported by my main playtester also, and I have yet to find out why, nor have I encountered that problem myself. I'll keep looking for an answer. It may be too late for you, but I had my playtester reload the save before entering the sector, and Hamous was there that time.

I have tried previous save, but without results. Then I used even earlier one, before ever reaching the coast. In new attempt, I found ice cream truck in usual position for that region (D3). It was not usable, but Hamous was nowhere to be seen. I have set recruite native guides to disabled.

Upon taking SAM at D2, the area was attacked by soldiers, but enemy didn't appear in tactical view. They were unkillable with console commands, too. Upon restarting the game and reloading the save, they popped into existance, inside the site and buildings, on the same spot where, I suppose, enemies are spawn when I liberated the area.

With the risk of sounding terribly stupid, I must ask if I should use different exe file for your mod? Other one then ja2.exe, that is?

I recommend using Sevenfm's latest executable. I include his latest at the time of every release but the link above will bring you to his latest.

The invisible armies bug you mentioned is fixed in Sevenfm's exe.

I don't think Hamous is considered a native guide in JA2, but I am just guessing on that. Try Sevenfm's exe.

I tried that .exe file, and it solved the issue with invisible army, all right.

Only problem is that it doesn't work with game resolution set at 800x600, so it is unusable. I will try to switch between loading porper ja2.exe and that thing for critical areas only.

Ja2+AI works well with 800x600 or any other resolution.

seems not to work with squads bigger than 6 not sure

Started with the latest version a few days ago. Changes I've noticed:
Bad guys are climbing a lot. OK, good for them.
Have not seen a zombie yet. OK by me.
Landing in Omerta with grenades bandaged into duct tape - OK, it's the cost of using old inventary.
Not getting money for boxing - old, old bug.
Tony not paying for guns, just confiscates 'em after I hired Brenda - now, that is bad.

Sevenfm's executable does work with squads bigger than 6 -- I always use squads of 10.
Bad guys will climb and hide a lot more.
Zombies . . . if I set them to be 1 percentage point more common they appear ALL the time. As it is, 1 percentage point lower than that, they never seem to appear. Frustrating.
Grenades taped together -- at least you got them. I haven't tested for the Old Inventory system.
I haven't run into the no-money-for-boxing bug. I wonder if it has something quirky to do with the options.
I also haven't had Tony not pay for guns . . . but you are the second player to note that. I'll test it out as soon as Tony gets back in my latest playtest. Tony not being there shouldn't happen either. The option is set that he is always there. So something wierd is happening with Tony.

What about the other gun dealer in San Mona -- Ray. Are you having problems with him also? He doesn't buy as many different weapons as Tony, but he stocks some weapons Tony doesn't. Same sector as Angel, the concrete building in front of the Snack 'n Shack.

Actualy, it wont start unless I change game resolution to 1024x756 or use windowed mode, which is not an option.

All I get is the message that I don't have support for 940x600 in my primary screen and the game will not start in full screen.

What SCREEN_RESOLUTION value in Ja2.ini are you using?

This means you are using unpatched r7435 which uses different screen resolution ID's in ja2.ini.

Game screen resolution in game is set to 800x600. It is set in editor, and I am trying to run the .exe through there, too. I get the same result if I try to run it without editor.

Have yet to meet Ray - cheat shows the house is full of weapons, but nobody is at home. With Tony I can swap things but sometimes money is more important.

Returned with Maria in daytime (at night she was not in her cubicle) and there was a little struggle, after that Angel did not recognize Maria who was standing in front of him, whining: take me to my brother. (In 1.06 he did recognize her, but did not gave me the lease.)

Good thing is: bad guys do not flee into neighbouring sectors any more.

What I did not know: taking prisoners but letting them go is VERY unpopular among locals (and I was thinking about that unhappy sergeant in Alma...).

The NPC interactions can be glitchy. Sometimes you have to re-do it a couple times before the script catches. In my latest run-through, Angel did not recognize Maria at first, but when I moved her all of a sudden he did. Other run-throughs I've had to reload and try again until it took.

I'm still trying to figure out what's up with Tony.

I'm having trouble with the militias all the time. 30 veterans loose battles against les than 15 soldiers... https://s24.postimg.org/fqzycdlsh/SCREEN001.jpg
"found no gun to equip, uses harsh language instead"...
Is there something I miss, or something I don't know about equiping them??

Also my cost per day with militias always exceeds the mine income except for a short time when taking Grumm, I have to rely on duplicating items at the c6 merchant, Ray. This needs tuning.

In my game Tony is always there but Hans doesn't let me see him.

You have to provide the weapons, ammo and other gear for the militia to use. With Drop All enabled there should be plenty of gear for you to equip militia -- though you may have to move it from one sector to another. Once there is enough stuff for the militia in a militia sector, go to Tactical, use CTRL-. (Control+period) to re-stock militia.

Quote:

Also with Drop All enabled there should be plenty of gear for you to sell off using ALT+LMB in the strategic inventory screen. The economic game forces you to make choices. You don't say how many Mercs you have hired, or who, but you may need to pare down your force or switch to cheaper Mercs until you can get more money saved.

I assume you have given Brenda the videotape. Did you recruit her? I think the Tony problems have something to do with the recruitable Brenda.

You may also have increased your militia past available resources. Having to equip the militia is a check against expanding the militia too fast.

i've understood that militia uses weapons they find in sector. if there are no weapons (and ammo), they have no other means to fight than "use harsh language" or hand-to-hand, quite fatal against firearms. (if militia steals something too valuable, you can get it back with "inspect militia" or something like that.)

everybody has his own style, of course, but it seems you have so long deals with your team that you have time to occupy a mine or three before you run out of money.

re: Tony & Hans - if you did get rid of that punk girl Brenda (there are two ways for that) and Hans still does not let you in, then you should talk to Hans with a merc with higher leadership.

I usually take mostly cheap Mercs from M.E.R.C., sell off what gear I don't need, keep militia down to manageable size, and take mines only when I start to run out of money (except for Drassen -- I try to finish the initial food quest first, which will usually give me the Drassen mine also). I'll keep a Merc or two with each set of militia to bolster the militia and give me the option of playing through every militia battle. I almost always have financial problems, but that's part of the game, I think.

Everybody plays different, and you can tweak the mine income and starting income to your needs. But I believe you're the first to say there isn't enough money in AV -- others have complained there is too much money in AV. I'll take a look at the economics again before the end-of-month Update.

seems i've managed to screw something seriously up. started new game, no Brenda (yet?) but none of the merchants gives me money, i can just swap things. so it means another kind of tactics, including pillaging Ray's shop for serious weapons. many layers of explosive nasties in the floor there - does his presence trigger them off? anyway, i think clean install would do the trick and Brenda is not guilty.

What version are you playing? The explosives in the floor should be gone now that there is an actual merchant there. It does seem as if there is a mixup somewhere in the install.

Liberated Chizena and Drassen.

Fights are ballanced enough, however, there are some glitches. Angelo doens't recognise his sister, so the quest can't be concluded. Sometimes dialogue fires, but it stiops in the middle of their exchange.

Hans doens't complain about Brenda being in his shop, but states up front that Tony stepped out a bit.

Odd thing happened, in farmland sector just west of Drassen airport, after a successfull fight against 20 enemies. Drop all option isn't enabled, but I got several dozen firearms and large amount of ammo and gear. Completely inaccessable in strategic view of inventory, and not seen on tactical view at all. Reloaded the previous save, but was not able to replicate the glitch. It looked almost like someone's shop inventory just dropped in the mid of cornfield.

Fighting the elites, 100% of them are women, while regulars are all men. RESTRICT_FEMALE_ENEMIES option is set to FALSE. I think I already reduced female population of Arulco by 70%.

One more thing - if enemy climbs the roof, he is impervious to attack by mercs that are less then 3 tiles away. No matter what weapon you use, the bullet will always miss. Handguns, rifles, iron sights, optics, whatever. Targeting line is always full. Mercs that are further away have no such issues.

I have tried to fins Hamous. several times, I have spotted his truck off the coast, but never him. Truck is marked with blue icon on the minimap.

The NPC interactions -- all of them -- can be glitchy. I don't know what it is that is making the scripts skip a beat -- sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. With Angel & Maria, Angel will recognize Maria and go through all his lines -- I've had to reload and try again to make that happen sometimes, but it will happen with nothing different except a reload before they meet. The last test of it I did he didn't recognize her until she moved, then everything worked as normal. It is best to save before any NPC encounter so that if it's glitchy you can reload and try again. Same with Hans -- he should appear with his truck if you reload.

Tony & Hans are being a problem -- I did not change their basic interactions so I am trying to figure out what making Brenda recruitable may have done to the entire Tony-Hans-Brenda situation.

If possible, I'd reload fresh and start with v1.08 as the full install followed by the v1.08 End-of-Month Update. It sounds like some of your files from v1.06 were not updated to v1.08 because of skipping v1.07 (?).

End of December Update!
Now available at the blog's Download Page.

The 31-Dec-2016 Update includes the all previous v1.08 fixes and updates, and fixes a number of issues with attachments - and because of this it is suggested to start a new game with this Update. Otherwise, some attachments might disappear when attached to some weapons. Nevertheless, this Update should be savegame compatible. Included in this Update are more IMP portraits, weapons, LBE, armour, explosives, and other items, as well as many map refinements. Perhaps most important, all the combat variables have been refined, and MercOpinions.xml has been further evolved. Also, the Enemy Pick Lists and Merc Gear Kits have been updated. And to top it off, this Update includes Sevenfm's latest AI-improved executable -- remember to point your desktop launcher to the new executable (ja2_7609en+AI_r357.exe)

Simply extract into your main game folder. This Upgrade is a 9.88 MB file. This is most probably savegame compatible - however it will overwrite any of your options changes, and possible reset your screen resolution. Be Prepared. Back up your JA2_Options and any other file you customized (place them in the ..\Profiles\UserProfile_ArulcoVacations\ folder and they will be used by the game and safe from being overwritten by Updates. This Upgrade is not included in the V1.07-to-v1.08 Patch or the full download of v1.08 . . . yet.

Don't forget to point your desktop launcher to the new executable (or, if you use the IniEditor to start the game, point that to the new executable).

I shall pass on this update as I don't want to risk possible savegame corruption. However,I noticed that 26,5 mm flares do not fit in any inventory pocket, no matter how large it is.

Thanks! Missed that. Fixed now for next time. If you want to fix it there -- in Items,.xml edit the size of the 26,5mm flares to be 14.

Thanks for the tip happy.

Few more things that I find odd. I disabled the names for the enemies, disabling several options. This also solved the gender ballance of the troops. Before, all elites were exclusively female. Now, only a portion of them, which is as it should work, I suppose.

Also, I still sometimes get unusual and unexplainable drops of items in some sectors. Mostly things like beer or wine, all pilled up in the same point in the sector, 10 or 20 of them. The most notable was the map just south of Drassen mine. On my fourth or fifth visit, I spotted several of such depositis in NE part of the map. They were not there previously.

Tropical SAM - when enemy attacks the sector from the south, one or two soldiers get spawned in SW corner of the map. They never join combat nor move at all and are out of the range of the mercs within the SAM site. This was confirmed through 20 attacks from the south so far. Had to deal with them trough ALT+O.

That is odd, indeed! I have no idea what would be causing that but I'll be on the look out. I'll check that Tropical SAM sector also.

now that bole mentions it - at least once it happened to me too: all contents of Drassen airport were suddenly copied to sector west of Drassen mine. i considered it just a very lucky incident big grin

Indeed. But it didn't look like the copy, first time it happened. Sector suddenly went from 34 items to 600+. As I can tell, the only thing that happened is that enemy patrol, some 12 soldiers in all, occupied the area.

I have noticed, in Drassen, that at least one merc gets drunk each time team spends some period in Drassen mine sector. I never assigned any mercs to use bar.

If merc is prone on the roof, one tile away form the edge, he can see an enemy that stands up several tiles from the building, but he cannot shoot him (reticule is black). However, enemy has no problems putting several bullets in merc. Happens every time.

In every town sector with a bar or liquor/wine shop there is an Ambient Facility (happens without Player input) that assigns a random chance per Merc per hour of that Merc using their own money to slip away and buy a few drinks.

In a related note: Mercs with the <scrounging> tag ( i.e. thieves, scroungers, hoarders, bums, etc.) will steal things that are not necessarily found by the player. They seem to raid people's house and can come away with somebody's $10 stashed in a drawer, or any other item that is squirreled away in that sector.
