Hi.
Since I found instructions recently on Steam describing how to make it work nicely on Windows 8 (using Wine3d dll's), I came back to ja2.
However, since last official release was more than year ago, and there were tons of features added since, I wonder a bit if there is reasonable way to get current version. So some questions come to mind:
-When I try to open svn website, I get screen "Reported Unwanted Software Page!". Since that is something that really doesn't happen all too often to me(in fact never so far and I visit all kinds of webpages), I'm reluctant to follow. Does someone here have some comment on this issue, please?
-I saw some instructions on how to get compiler somewhere in one forum thread when someone asked about it. I haven't seen some "official" guide in stickied or install pages. Did I miss it, or does it not exists?
-What does the compiler do, does it produce all the new files, or just some of them? E.g. does it include updated ini editor for new features?
-So far as I know, additional shops were added only after most recent official update, correct? (It's one of the things I would want most from the new features, perhaps together with improved fortifications (so even if I can't build fortifications in sectors that don't have them to begin with, I could at least build some barricades, and another very nice feature is deciding starting MERC equipment)
-Does anyone know if there is chance for some new official release in foreseeable future?
-Does someone know if current svn version is buggy and that's why release isn't coming, or are people just busy with their lives?
One other query regarding my currently started new game:
-I started with MILITIA_DROP_EQUIPMENT at FALSE. I have changed it since, but not sure if this is retroactive (if newly trained militias will be dropping their stuff or not), considering that I'm playing with manualy equipping militia (which I have to provide with equipment, so I want them to drop it at least)

In any case, I would like to thank all the people that contributed to the 1.13.

You can always use SCI's from Depri if you want new releases:

Additional merchants are in 1.13 for a long time and exist in stable 7609, using them depends on mod or you can configure XMLs for your needs.

Placing sandbags/concertina works in stable 7609, especially in SDO+Wildfire mod (place sandbags in any sector)

Don't expect stable release soon, play stable 7609 or use new development SCI's.

It's definitely playable and should not crash more often than stable release, but development build are usually less tested, so there can be bugs in new features or some balance issues. Also, mods are usually made for stable releases and may not work correctly with new SCI's if not updated by modders.
On the other hand, some bugs from (outdated and not supported anymore) stable release are fixed in new development builds.
If you find any bug you can post it on forum and expect it to be fixed someday.
If you don't want to be a tester, play stable releases.
