I'm no programmer by any stretch of the imagination, but could a riot shield be a possibility, with entering rooms etc? Everyone knows that indoor sections can be a veritable nightmare, especially with grey shirts inside, and it would drastically increase your survivability there, I understand that the animation would probably be a hell of a lot of work, if not impossible, but I would love to see it, I'm sure other people would to.

Thoughts?

Why use a riot shield if you can just C4 the building with everyone inside? C4 is also much easier to carry around than some heavy bulky shield.

I like your logic, but I was thinking more of a "realistic" method of clearing rooms haha

As far as I know, there had been attempts to do the animations once... the person doing it almost went to a mental institution after doing a few pics...

But seriously, yes... riot shields would be kinda neat (especially with the selection of melee weapons that will be in the upcoming AIMNAS update), but the main problem are infact the lacking animations which are a TON of work, unless someone gets a 3D modeling working (each bodytype needs ~160 - 200 pics for a single animation... that leads to a lot of boring and tedious painting and you can't even be certain that the result looks decent in game...).

Still not impossible, but unlikely unless someone will take the burden of the ring and walk into Mordor (a.k.a. animation design)... but we all know... "You don't simply walk into Mordor..."

I don't blame them, I'd lose myself in all the jumbles of letters before I had any semblance of completion>

I really just like the idea of Barry breaching a room, getting the crap shot out of his shield and having Fidel waste everyone in the room. Plus having enemies use them would definitely bring up some new tactics on dealing with them, I'd imagine stun grenades would be perfect, but alas, a man can dream can't he?

That's one journey I would not be partaking in

As smeagol said, the problem is animations. The rest - blocking or at least significantly lowering damage if it comes from a specific direction if we have a shield in our hands - is easy.

I know now that it could never work between us, as much as we wanted to, it could never be! Not because you're a rabbit, but because you're black.

If you want, you can donate to me. This will not affect how and what I code, and I will not code specific features in return. I will be thankful though.

In a (para-)military context, that is the realistic method, we aren't the police.

Is there any 3D models for JA2 available? The bodies at least? I'm not stupid enough to try drawing them images by hand, but I'd be curious to try modelling. I remember there was a thread way back when... someone tried that and made really good progress and then vanished, right?

Edit: nevermind - found it Here

My original idea was not to have the shield appear at all if you crouch-move. The "only" animations for the shield necessary were stand idle, crouch idle, walking, running, "aiming" and pistol attack. Still a shitton of frames, but not *that* much anymore. Some folks made new Fallout critters with editing 10k frames by hand, adding the shield to the frames is laughable easy compared to that. big grin

I didn't continued with it, because I think there was very little support. One or two helping hands would have drastically increased the production speed.
