Requests like this pop up every often or so. Creating the items is easy, but nobody is willing to draw all the animations, so this won't happen.

Saren threw his head back and screamed in impotent fury, before falling to his throne, head in his claws, trembling in horrified disbelief.

Then he heard a faint chime as Sovereign subscribed to her ECHO channel.

How many animations is it again per action? let's see... left and right are better when they're not just mirrored (due to handedness). Up down. Diagonal... 8 directions. Now how many frames in a stab? Humdidum...

More realistic request: can we get Katana back as one of the items IMPs can start with? - Perhaps limited to people with "melee" trait, but by the time you can get it on Bobby Ray you rarely get a chance to use it. I remember back in the day I could get this. If you want to be really limiting you could say only if you have Martial Artist and melee, but hey, it's just a cool 2000 $ sharp piece of metal...

I added it in mine (item number 1055 in IMPITEMCHOICES 22 (Melee) as Item No 10) - but I'm sure some others would appreciate getting it back. Or was there a reason it was taken out, that I'm missing?

I see no problem with adding it to, say, the melee selection (having it appear only if we have 2 separate traits hasn't been coded yet, I'd rather not). I'll see to it.

Katana doesn't belong to JA2 1.13 Martial Arts. In JA2 Martial Arts is unarmed fighting. The only weapon we allow there is the brass knuckles. Katana belongs to melee combat.

I definitively agree that Martial Arts alone would have no connection. However, Martial Arts does reduce interrupt chance when charging at an opponent and would give "ingame fluff" for why someone might own such a special item. -- Still with new selection method it's not like we're getting it for free. Still have to pay for the sword... so might as well have it be an option for anyone with the melee trait.

Added Katana as a possible IMP item for melee trait in GameDir r2336.

I guess it was around 2007?? that I introduced the katana (along with the nunchaku & shuriken), designed after the one I own myself with the intention to have it as an IMP starting weapon or a rare find (that's why it is that expensive). Easy to mod, so I used it in my own games for my IMP until I preferred starting with no gear at all. At the time Starwalker put these martial arts items in the trunk with a few minor changes in the item descriptions.

Funny that now, about 10 years after, it seems to become an "official" IMP weapon in the v1.13 trunk... For none of these items there are specific animations, but for original items like the machete there aren't any either, so I never bothered with it a lot.

But there are people who made some... Don't know how this turned out, though..

Interesting! Nice input, thanks Thor. And thanks for adding it in the first place. It's been part of one of my more memorable IMP happy

Why does the Katana have the <RocketRifle>1</RocketRifle> tag in Items.xml (r7609), and what does that tag actually do?

No reason and it produces that smoketrail effect when firing a gun.

Why does the Katana have the <RocketRifle>1</RocketRifle>?

Maybe it's a Katana Gun?
