Have played v1.13 untill day 54, but am not able to use scope except on M24 and PSG. Those are the only guns I have found that have a slot for scope. I have other rifles which should have a built in scope, but those use only iron sights, there seems to be no way to activate the scope. The Hot Key lists I have found say the dot key on the keyboard [.] should do it, but it does not seem to do anything.

I played v1.13.7435, until today when I found out I had not installed the patch 7609. Now the game says it is version 7609 build 14.10.24. The game did warn about save game being from older version, but seems to work nontheless. Except the . key and activating scope. I have been googling for days to find the hot key or other means to activate scope, no luck.

Weapons with built in sights just get all their bonuses on the iron sight mode, someone should have switched those over to inseparable default attachments a long time ago for consistent handling, but nobody bothered so far. *shrugs*
I'm actually more surprised that you haven't found a single scope other than the high power optics mounted on those precision rifles in nearly two months though ... wait, you aren't playing Gun Nut Simulator 2014 with limited selection of guns, are you?

I have not installed any additional mods, just v1.13.

It does not seem like the guns get the bonuses for scope, since scoring hits with Dragunov SVD is much harder than with M24. Also sight range is not changed and tunnel vision not shown, so it seems the scope is not used. The Bobby Ray description of Dragunov says it has scope (and night sight).

I have found scopes, 2x scope, 7x scope but the rifles do not have a slot for scope. Only M24 and HK PSG1 accept a scope. I have lots of 10x scopes, I have given them to mercenaries to use as telescope since I have found only three pairs of binoculars. I have 16 scopes with 10x, one 7x and one 2x. I could give M24 rifles to all mercenaries, but then automatic rifles and machine guns get very limited use. Plus it seems silly to have a squad consisting of only snipers.

This affects the game a lot. I am having great difficulties in battle since enemy is not seen until they are so close they can see my soldiers.

Curiouser and curiouser ...
That Dragu should normally come with a 4x PSO-1 sight, unless it's that one weird pre-placed gun left over from Vanilla. And that 2x should fit on pretty much everything.

To me it looks like you are playing with reduced item set and not "Tons of Guns". That must be the reason why most of your guns do not show the attachment slot for scopes. Pre-placed scopes on the map are not affected by "Tons of Guns". They just sit there waiting to be found no matter if they are useful afterwards or not. Almost all guns do not have build-in scopes. What they can come with is default attachments. I never play with reduced item set so I only remember that one Dragunov with a 10x scope in some desert sector. The 10x scope on that gun cannot be used. It will show in the attachments but it cannot be reattached once removed.

Btw. in order to use the [.] key to toggle scope modes the item needs to have more than one mode and USE_SCOPE_MODES has to be TRUE in Ja2_Options.ini. While standing you should always be able to switch between one scope mode and firing from hip.

I played without "Tons of Guns" already in Vanilla JA2. It seemed to me having it on did not give me more guns, just more different kinds of guns which made more hassle with finding correct ammunition for every gun. Now "Available Arsenal" is REDUCED. Is it so that this can be changed only by starting a new game? It is a bit strange if this affects using scope on guns with built-in scope.

I now checked I have in Data-1.13/Ja2_Options.ini:

; Allow manual toggle between a gun's different scopes/sights (toggle via '.' in tactical)
USE_SCOPE_MODES = TRUE

; Allow display of scope modes on weapon
DISPLAY_SCOPE_MODES = TRUE

But now I see there is also
ALLOW_ALTERNATIVE_WEAPON_HOLDING = 3

You are right about . key working when standing. Then the mode changes between iron sights and eye-symbol.

Guess I have to start a new game with "Tons of Guns". crying

Or you can open Data-1.13\TableData\Items\Items.xml with notepad and replace
<BigGunList>1</BigGunList>
with
<BigGunList>0</BigGunList>

The line <BigGunList>1</BigGunList> appears 1132 times in that file. I'll just leave it as is and start a new game.

CTRL+H

Although it would also suffice to just set it for the various scopes and sights if you want to avoid the original issue of too many guns.

(Not that I believe in such a thing as too many guns, but eh ... ;) )

Just change the scopes. There aren't many in the default 1.13 game. Simply search for ">scope" which should find you all scopes. Then set their "<BigGunList>" entry to 0.
Be aware that afterwards these scopes could also be used by and found on enemy soldiers. This could get you some nice 2x and 4x scopes that are perfect for assault rifles.
If you want some reflex sights - set its "<BigGunList>" entry to 0 as well.

BR and Tony will take some time to update their inventory.

I started a new game with "Tons of Guns". Looks like all the guns now have much more slots for attachments, so I believe I can now attach scope to a rifle when I find any.

This confusion could have been avoided if the meanings of the "Available arsenals" values were explained.

Thanks for all the help.
