Hello. Just downloaded fresh JA2 from GOG, installed 7435 and 7609. All looks good until I seem to be getting horrible FPS. It feels extra choppy and even bullets lag like crazy. My pc shouldn't be the problem, its plenty powerful. I'm running in 1920x1080, same with editor res. Fullscreen. My native resolution is 5760x1080 144hz. I assume I should downgrade to 1920x1080 since max is 2560x1600, so I have. Anyone know if custom resolution can go higher? Sometimes running a game in native improves fps. Other than that how can I get better fps? I'm guessing I'm getting 10-15 fps, if that. Any ideas?

I tried using custom resolution at 1920x1080. Also lowered to way low at 700x something. Neither helps much. I tried to run windowed mode and got an error saying it cant change to 16 bit color or something. Not sure whats going on. Ive played a lot of JA2 1.13 previously, and its slow for sure.
CPU-5960x
GPU-TitanXP
Ram 64GB @3200
Screens - 3x 1080p at 144hz

I'm gonna keep trying things, any ideas tho?

Update: No fix yet. Both PCs have same problem. Thought id provide more info. Game boots fine, some lag on mouse in start screen (not terrible), laptop is playable as well. Once helo drop leaves it runs okay, can notice lag with mouse. Once an enemy is found, heavy fps drop. each shot takes 5-10 seconds. bullet trails are very slow. However, loading screens seem great. No lag whatsoever. Lowered resolution all the way. A bit better but still lags heavy during combat.

Both PCs: Win10 fresh installs, 1920x1080 game resolution. Both run newer games great! Good FPS, no lag. Both copy's of JA2 from GOG. Ive never had lag like this in 1.13 before(12-18 months)since last played.

Lots of reports of trouble on Windows 8 & 10. Try the Compatibility fix detailed in your JA2/Docs/Windows Compatibility Fixes folder.

I can't help other than that 'cause I'm running Win7.

I'll try that thanks. Do different builds or updates work better?

Not that I know of. Check through the forum, search for "Windows 10" . . . I know the forum search is abominable, but there have been others before you with the same problem -- so you should be able to find some help there.

From my experience using a Windows 10 1.6 ghz laptop with an integrated graphics card it runs relatively acceptably with the compatibility fixes.
It starts to lag in menus and when you take an item from the inventory and it dims out the inventory area of the UI or when dynamic dialogue pop ups pop and other similar things that causes excessive refreshing.
It's really just Windows 10. On the other hand the OS doesn't seem to affect the overclock button (numpad * by default) and enemy turn speed ups as from what I've seen that's purely cpu based.

If you wanna play it with less lag you probably just have to use Win 7 or lower or possibly even a virtual machine. On my PC running Win 7 with much lower specs than yours it runs at a more than decent speed.

You have to install the compatibility fix for Win 8/10.
Works perfectly if you install them right (at least for me).

One way to improve the search is to search on Google but add "site:thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com" at the end of your search terms.

FIXED!!!!

I read the readme txt for win8 compatability. It recommended to turn "on" windows mode, Set intro to "off" (which I had already done), and click on JA2.exe file and click properties, then reduce color mode to 16 bit.

Works Great on Win10. Didn't do anything else but whats above. Its 100% playable now.... Thanks Guys. This should be in the instructions. Happy day in Omerta for me.
