We moved to a new server for various reasons. Migrating this board isn't a foolproof experience so please report here missing bits and pieces. Or errors. Anything related to FUDforum version (aka thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com links... old ja-galaxy-forum.com links are dead and buried, the main domain will only serve news from now on).

Ahem. Any PM in my inbox always consists of random garbage, and then a bunch of PMs after another.

PMs that are not meant to be read by me at all. Other people's messages. This is doubleplusbad suprised .

It seems to me those are simply the last x PMs anybody sent.

Then he heard a faint chime as Sovereign subscribed to her ECHO channel.

If you want, you can donate to me. This will not affect how and what I code, and I will not code specific features in return. I will be thankful though.

Yea, but fuck me if I know what caused that or why. I just exported/imported the db as per instructions. Rebuilt messages and all. And lots of PMs showed up from nowhere.

Reported this earlier too, so Shanga already knows. I also note that some older PM's are just plain empty.

There's nothing to do except manually clean up the bugged messages.

I even upgraded the forum to latest version but that doesn't seem to have fixed anything.

The new private message limit seems to be lower than the old one. I also was on >2000 percent full so I deleted all the messages and emptied the trash can afterwards. Now I'm back at 0 percent. So at least the counter seems to be going down when we clean up. Important to know is that it will only go down once you empty the trash because everything you delete will be moved there first so the counter stays the same before purging.

I have to Login again and again. When I change from a forum to a subforum, to a message or a P.M. ... that nerves.

The Search function is practically unusable. It shows nearly no results even with relevant and often used keywords.

Rebuilding search index times out, I need to talk to hosting tech to increase some settings.

If you get logged off, clear you cookies, probably they're combined with old ones and creating a mess.

Any news on those borked PMs? I either have that weird stuff with several ones meshed together, or, in the case of older ones, they are simply empty.
I also now have the behavior that the forum sometimes logs me off when I click on 'Home', only to log me in later. Also, sometimes new posts take several minutes until they disappear on the frontpage.

So since that just came up today:
With manual first post approval being a thing and quite a few people registering mainly to report something that might require a screen, should we maybe drop the no-link policy for newbies?

You need to empty the trash can. All messages that are deleted go to trash can first.

It is out of my hands guys, sorry. The devs are aware of how shit their PM storage system it but since it's an open source project with few devs, sorta like v1.13, it will be fixed only when someone with enough spare time on his hands will get to it.

In the meantime we make do with "manual" fixes, aka removing junk by hand. I was 1500% over quota, too.

PS: I wouldn't advise storing sensible date in the PMs. You have an option to download a copy of the messages if you want to keep them archived. Do that instead.

If FUDforum does not get any market traction, will probably be stuck with it forever due to absence for its import script on other platforms...

-------------------------
Just came across this open source platform as a prominent game-related site recently announced and made a switch over.

https://www.discourse.org/
https://github.com/discourse/discourse

Tried (visually) looking for FUDforum import script but found none.
https://github.com/discourse/discourse/tree/master/script/import_scripts

Of course, there's no harm asking developers if they could take a look at doing up FUDforum import script.

No savegame (just before e bug occurs), no cure.

I may answer/reply in my old public posts & prefer PM over e former [FUDforum's PM suxx]
