Hi Watermelooowned!

Glad to hear you are enjoying Vengeance and appreciating the work that's gone into it.

Calvin is a bit of an exceptional case when it comes to oil rig income but I suspect you may have another issue that you may be able to rectify in the ini.

I believe by default all mines and oil rigs only output at 50%, so even if you have 100% loyalty and a mining foreman you'll still only get 50% output from the oil rigs. To change this open the Ja2_Options.ini and scroll down or do a search and change the value after MINE_INCOME_PERCENTAGE = to 100.

100% should be the correct value anyway, but the ini with the release started at 50%.

The explosions at Oronegro was an attempt by H&B to sabotage the facility before taking it over, sometimes this can be more detrimental than other times.

As for the squad noticing someone in D3, they probably caught glimpse of a Jeep driving around. Perhaps he left before you could get to the driver! big grin

Oh, thank you for the quick reply!
I will change the income percentage to 100 then. Didnt want to cheese anything but since you're telling me the value was supposed to be at 100% anyway, i dont have to feel bad about it.
As for sector D3: Good to know! Maybe I manage to find the mysterious stranger the next time around ;D

Edit: Hmmmmmm. I just checked all my JA2Option.inis (somehow i have several of them in different folders, like Data 1.13, Data Vengeance etc.) and the income factor is at 100% on all of them. Yet, my rig at Oronegro runs at 50% max, producing 3200USD/Day.

Edit2: I just looked for all Ja2options.ini files I had in my Ja2 folder. All of them had the mine_income_factor set at 100 confused
Maybe I made a mistake while recruiting the foremand or something? Calvin was hurt in the explosion when i entered the sector with the oil rig. I did patch him up eventually and talked to him shortly after.
Didnt manage to recruit him right away, cause my Leadership was lacking. Managed to get a successful speech check a few days later but afaik the rig never ran at more than 50% capacity.
Maybe it is related to the "MINE_NO_FOREMAN_PENALTY" which is set to 50 in all my inis? But then again I do have Calvin hired and assigned. So im at a loss : C

Check you are editing the Ja2_options.ini in the Data-Vengeance folder.

Is Oronegro at 100% loyalty though? It may take time for the rig to reach full capacity. Calvin being injured should not be a factor if you patched him up.

Strangely enough I found another rig that Calvin was foreman on in my playthrough actually worked better without him. not sure though usually you must have a foreman assigned for the rig or mine to work, but Calvin's may be an exception. I always thought miners were assigned specifically to certain mines in later builds, so for example Fred is always at Drassen, Calvin is always at Doran, but I might be mistaken.

I think I narrowed the issue down.
Just for testing purposes i put the "MINE_NO_FOREMAN_PENALTY" to 0 and then my rig at Oronegro produced at 100%.
When i changed it back to 50, the game cut the production by 50% and i was exactly were I started.
It seems that for some reason the game doesnt recognize Calvin as a foreman or something, at least not for income generation - despite having him assigned to the rig.
[And yes, the town has been at 100% for a few days now.]

A related issue was posted on the development forum area too, Seven, in regard to Calvin at Doran, though looking at my ini it uses the old no foreman required value, though I'm not sure when or if I changed this setting.

I kept testing a bit on a different playthrough and found out a bit more.
This time i went directly towards Drassen and captured the town in order to test the foreman behaviour in regards to mines.
What I noticed was:

When I spoke to Fred (Friendly) he gave me the usual speech of how he is thankful and wants to support me and the History Log was updated.
At this point the mine produced at 15% while the town loyalty was at ~45%.
Then I recruited him and manually assigned him the position of foreman. The mine production went up to 30%.
Then, for testing purposes, I put Fred into Squad 2 and moved him to a different position on the map (in order to not have him stand there in the open). During that period the production dropped back to 15%.
But when I reinstated him as foreman the mining efficiency didnt change back to 30%. So there is most likely something off with the foreman assignments?

@WatermelOwned,

if I understand your problem, then you must read in the Ja2_Option this

MINE_INCOME_PERCENTAGE = 100

;----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------
; Decreases (by percentage) the amount of cash that mines generate every day when no amount is assigned.
;
; 0 = normal JA2 profits
; 50 = default setting
;
;----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------

MINE_NO_FOREMAN_PENALTY = 0

In my game there could I read

MINE_NO_FORMAN PENALTY = 50 *)

till now.

After changing this 50 *) to "0" my income is 100 p.c. higher!

Question: are there weapons coded into the game that aren't assigned to drop from enemies or sell in stores?

Also,

It may be easier to say what weapons are coded that are assigned to drop.

The more south you go the more support there is for the Queen. You'll need to clear sectors of enemies and get your snitches working on propaganda assignments to improve loyalty. As far as I can remember there's not many specific quests in those sectors.

Hello Watermel0wned,

Thank you for your kind words and sorry for late answer.

A question related to oil rig income:

Initially I went westwards and captured the town of Oronegro first.
There i found the fat Foreman (Think it was Calvin?) and assigned him to the oil rig.
I noticed that my oil rig is working at 50% max and when Calvin isnt sleeping its working at 40% (I assume thats related to his background which gives -10% rig income).
Yes, Calvin is a talker a "windbag". He is the negative exception of all foremen/oil rig workers so better not use him as foreman in on of the mines/oil rigs.

Watermel0wned wrote on Thu, 05 March 2020 01:01
When i was browing the forums here I read that Calvin was some fool that gimps your income by a lot and that he should be replaced. I hired Scream to be his replacement and assigned him to the rig.
Still, my production is still capped at 50% and I have no idea why?
Try to assign a mercenary with high leadership as foreman and see what happens.

Watermel0wned wrote on Thu, 05 March 2020 01:01
Is my oil rig damaged or something? Cause when i entered the sector, there were explosions all over the rig.
No, the oil rig gets not damaged through the explosions. The only and real danger is that the foreman gets hurt and killed before you can talk to him. And when he is dead you can not talk with him of course and the income from the oil rig/mine is lost forever.

Best regards and much fun playing this mod,

Schein...

I just found an AK conversion kit but it doesn't seem to work with any of the AKs that I've tried or the SKS. If it does work, what does it work with?

If it isn't implemented, is there any way for me to do it myself?
Hey Cerhio, sorry I've only just noticed this issue you flagged for the AK kit. I'll take a look at it when I can.

Update; Going by the XML's the AK conversion kit should work on the AKM, AK47, AKMS and AKS-47 turning it into an AKM tactical.

It appears the SKS adaptability hasn't been added yet, but I'll add that soon. Thanks for spotting this.

Latest Merges file available here; https://www.mediafire.com/file/6sysl13jsyni5oi/Merges.xml/file overwrite this one over your current one in Data-AIMv53\TableData\Items

This update means both SKS' are compatible with this barrel kit now, so merging it with an SKS PU, means you get a SKS Tactical and the remaining PU scope as well.

Hello again happy

I hope that i am posting at the right place, since my issue is not a bug. I don't think it is. I just reinstalled VR, cause i've lost my advanced game, due to a restore angry. After spending hours fine-tuning the INI.Editor i went to my first fight and noticed that Reaper with a M-24 and Grandee with a FR-F2, both with 10x scopes and bipods, in prone position, couldn't get more than 4 clicks. My Tactical Gameplay Settings :

Allow extra aim levels = True
Dynamic Aiming Limits = True
Aim levels depend on distance = False
Aim levels compatibility option = 0. I didn't change that, it can be changed in the xml but not on the INI.Editor.

Now, i have no idea if a setting i need to change is in the INI.Editor or in the CTH.Constants or somewhere else. I remember asking about this before but for the life of me i can't find it in my past posts. I've been looking for a few days now and i am ashamed to be asking again but i can't find a solution. This time i'll write it down in a text file and save it with the VR installation files. It's probably something very simple but i can't remember it.

I like them to get the correct number of clicks as per the dynamic limits. If someone can point out what i can do to fix this, please help out. Every tip is appreciated !

I don't have Vengeance so I can't look at the game data but if you set DYNAMIC_AIMING_LIMITS = TRUE the number of aim clicks depends on the weapon type. For sniper rifles with range <= 50 tiles the max aim clicks is 6, the base is 3. For sniper rifles with range > 50 tiles the max aim clicks is 8, the base is 4. Sniper bonus is added to that base value. The game then calculates the min range for aim bonus of the scope and compares that to the SCOPE_AIM_THRESHOLD parameters from JA2_Options.ini to figure out which bonus to apply to aim levels. If you're using scope modes you need to be in the correct scope mode to get the bonus. You won't get a bonus if you have a 10x scope attached but you're in iron sight mode.

@Silversurfer I use the scope modes through the "." key, as much as possible, whenever the situation calls for it.
@Sevenfm Took me a while to find that option, it was in within the Extended Options, all's well.

Thank you for the information gentlemen, today i did try to create a new setup, clean installation and all, took me some time to fine-tune everything. But when i tried to start my game, i did get the following RUNTIME ERROR message : " Number of tilesets slots in code does not match data file" I have never seen this before, i have no idea what it means. I tried google and it appears it has something to do with the maps ??? I don't mess with maps.
What should i do ? Uninstall everything and start over again ? Or can it be corrected somehow ? Thank you for your time and patience !!

1. Revert to clean installation.
2. Change one option at a time, testing everything in the game.
3. Don't change options in the game folder, instead put Ja2_Options.ini to your profile, this file should only have the options you want to change, use INI merging feature in Ja2.ini, as a result you can quickly add your pack of personal options to newly installed mod and play.

Sounds like you have more or less SMPxItems.STI files than the game expects - either because of the number specified in JA2Options.ini (the tag NUM_P_ITEMS = x), or because an entry in Items.XML references a SMPxItem.STI that it can't find.

Both situations happen when merging mods that have different number pf SMPxItems.STI files, or the VFS file system is not looking in the correct folders to find the files.

WOW, you guys are coding gods, i tip my hat to you, you are life savers !!!!!

@Sevenfm Thankfully, i didn't need to reinstall, i change options on the INI.Editor mainly, some more on the JA2 Options, that cannot be adjusted on the INI.Editor. A lot of the new options lack descriptions also, as a result i leave them alone, since i don't know what will they do if i mess with them. Some are self explanatory happy

@Edmortimer You nailed it Ed. It was the NUM_P_ITEMS in the Data Vengeance options. While the Data 1.13 has it at 3, the Data Vengeance had it at 7. Took it down to 3 and now the game is running happy Many thanks gentlemen, i hope i won't have to bother you anymore for a long while.

I do have one question though and i may be wrong and get scolded for it but i have to ask anyway. I change the options to both Datas, 1.13 and Vengeance, along with their respective JA2 Options, one in each folder, to try to make them having the same values, or as close to 1.13 as possible. I am using the 1.13 as a guide, i like the balance in 1.13. Is this right or wrong ? It hasn't cause any problems in AR or in AV. I prefer to play the mods with the INI file that has their name. I sincerely hope not to be cursed on too much in case i am being sacrilegious big grin

I start with a clean install of JA2 Gold. Then adding the 7435 and it's 7609 update, running the zpatch and finally adding the Vengeance Reloaded, latest version. Am i doing something wrong ?
I believe that this is the correct sequence. Am i mistaken ? or using the wrong resources ?

Yes, Seven is correct that VR needs 7 P Items. Your game is looking in the Data-1.13 folder for the P Items, not the VR folder. Your game will load, but once it runs into an item from P_Item 4 thru 7 it will crash - unless it is also using the Data-1.13 Items.XML . . . in which case characters and map sectors might have a strange assortment of items, or the game will crash when it looks for an item ID number greater than what is in Data-1.13.

If you are playing VR you only have to modify the VR JA2Options file. That is the only one that matters for VR. Actually, if you make your changes in the Profiles folder for VR as Sevenfm advised, then you don't have to worry about any of the other files. The VFS System will look in there first, then the other designated folders, until when it finds the file it is looking for. When it finds the file it stops looking and uses that file - regardless of where it is. So you see that it is important to have the correct order of lookup folders in the VFS ini file (the default file included in VR should be fine).

Yep, it did crash, i admitted to Seven that the game was broken on the above post happy
The things that confuse me are the INI-Files on the INI Editor. Let's say that i have selected the VR INI-File since i want to play the mod with all the options that come with it. But since it's using 1.13 assets, does that make the 1.13 INI-File the dominant one ? Or the dominant file is the one selected on the INI Editor ? Because there are more files in there such as the APBP. What does the BP part stand for ? AP is the Action Points, figured out that much.

The way the VFS file system works is that there is a hierarchy of folders to look through to find files. If the game does not find a certain file in the first designated folder it looks in, it then will look in the second designated folder, and so on until it finds the file.

VR uses a complex folder structure combining different mod elements together. VR uses the Items.XML and the SMPxItems.STIs in Data-AIMv53. Since I'm not really familiar with all the intricacies connecting the various VR-related Data folders it is probably best if Hawkeye or Silver Surfer answer specific questions.

Basically, when playing VR every file in the VR related Data folders are the files the mod uses. If, and only if, the file is not in one of these folders then the game will look in the 1.13 Data folder, and then the vanilla Data folder, and then as a last resort . . . the SLF files in the root.

APBP = Action Points / Breath Points

Thank you much Sir Ed, that pretty much answers my question, no need to dig deeper since the terms are becoming too high tech for me. Still, now i have a clearer view of the inner mechanics, even if it's only a general idea. Not planning to mess with them though !

Best wishes and a Happy Easter to everyone happy

Hawkeye,
I just wanted you to know from the bottom of my heart how much I appreciate all the time and effort you put into this. I have a very stressful job and this mod is my escape. It's honestly the only video game I play and I make sure I play at least 10 minutes a day just to get my mind off work. I actually don't know what I'd do without it. Thank you Hawkeye.

Edit: oh on a side note, what does the pu scope bought from the Bobby rays attach to? I've never seen as it as an attachment option on a weapon so I've never bought it before.

PU scope is for old Russian rifles.

From the items.xml, it can be attached to:
Mosin-Nagant M1891/30
Simonov AVS-36

Mosin-Nagant can be used by green militia, and AVS-36 can only be bought from BR, I think.

Also if you use that AK Conversion kit, you'll get the PU scope as a secondary item if merged with an SKS PU. The item comes hard-wired with a PU (not as an attachment) but will seperate if merged.

On a related note, I noticed using the Dragunov in game it doesn't come with a default scope, does this mean if there's not a scope attached there is no scope on it by default and therefore you get no scope bonuses? As I noticed you don't get any tunnel vision either with the default gun. Is this correct or should all Dragunov's by default come with some kind of scope already attached. I am looking at this as the same way an old Steyr Aug will have fixed optics already on the gun which prevents untattaching it, at least in Vanilla, would this be the same for the Dragunov? Or by default is that just using iron sights?

thumbs up No worries, it's still good to know people are playing and getting some enjoyment out of it. It's still being worked on though updates are less frequent and people posting bugs or sharing their experience will only make it improve. Of course thanks should also go to the VR team and those who have helped over the years.

Hey guys,
I killed Stanley (from the company) to take a peek at some of the items he was carrying. I've just got some questions:
1) Is his vest (c18 treated combat recon spectra vest) available through drop or Bobby Ray's eventually or can this item only be found in his inventory?

2) I noticed that this vest had a slot for batteries. Does this do anything or is it just an oversight?

3) What does his transmitter do?

I don't think you can buy treated or coated vests at Bobby Rays, it's more of a McGuyvering item, you can make your own by buying a spectra vest, combining that with a recon conversion kit and then coating it with Compound 18. I gave him that just to up his armour values, as you wont be able to continue some quests if he's dead. No idea on the batteries, the transmitter is probably just a 'flavour' peice as he's a CIA spook, in fact I'm not sure how that got in there as it's not showing in the map editor, but maybe it's in his xml.

Hello to all Jagged Allies !

I did found Pacos and escorted him back to his father. Unescorted him right in front of Manuel but no acknowledgement from either one. The quest did not update in the laptop and overall nothing happened. When escorted Joey back to Martha in vanilla and other versions, there was interaction between them and Joey unescorted himself. With Pacos and Manuel, nothing. How does this quest work ??? Am i doing something wrong ? Has anyone completed it successfully ? Please advise/help.

Hello Scheinworld, thank you for responding...

I am using the latest VR download and the Data VR JA2 INI Options. I did notice something though. Got the quest from Angel to help Maria. Got her out of there stealthily-like but when i delivered her to Angel, he gave me the jacket instead of the deed, no problem there, and he left. Maria did stay there though but without being recruitable, i used Lynx to talk to Angel. I reloaded the save and this time i used Cougar to talk, i think he is the one that initiated the quest in the first place. Angel spoke his lines, gave the jacket, told me about Kingpin's money and took off. Maria joined my squad automatically. I did try reloading the Pacos-Manuel phase but i don't remember who spoke to Manuel in the first place to initiate the quest. Maybe i need to use that same person to bring Pacos back.

I do not know how to upload a save here, sorry. What happens if the Manuel-Pacos quest remains unfinished ? Is Manuel supposed to go get a surgery and then join my little army ? That would make the quest completion worthy.

You can use a temporary file hosting service like this one here:

https://www.file-upload.net/

There are surely others out there, but I don't know more hosting servies without registration needed.

Yeah, the Maria-Angel quest and interaction was always a bit tricky. Best always save before! Please also read here:

I even tested the Manuel-Pacos quest (as usual always save before!).

No big problem if you will not finish this quest.

Thank you for all the help Schein
I have read all pages on this thread and i forgot to mention that Angel remained in his store, i don't mind though, i doubt that Kingpin will bother him. Or, maybe next time i visit San Mona he'll have left town.
I was right about the Pacos - Manuel interaction. Brought all squads to Manuel and Pacos spoke to him by himself, thus updating the quest. Too bad that Manuel won't accept money or i would give him a few k's to get his surgery done. I think the one that spoke to Manuel and started the quest off, was Gus from Squad Alpha. Once he was close enough to Manuel, Pacos did his part, saying that dad's friends brought him back but he couldn't steal money, etc.
All's well here happy
