Hello everyone,

I was helping a friend who also played JA2 since its release, trying to get 1.13 (with and without Ed's Arulco Vacation tweak) to run on his Win10 system.

We got it to work, but the mouse and menus are laggy and it's basically unplayable. From what I found on the forums, it may have to do with the Direct3D driver and some .dlls.

libwine.dll und wined3d.dll are present in the folder, however if I copy the ddraw.dll into it, neither the exe nor the launcher get the game to work.

Can somebody shed some light on the issue please? Is there a workaround?

Thanks!

This topic can help you a lot.

Basicly, there are 2 workarounds, registry edition and wine (those files you are talking about). Both have their pros and cons (stuttering or weird map colors). If you have one of the latest builds, you can find both solutions in "\Docs\Windows Compatibility Fixes\Windows 8 & 10 Fix.zip\Windows 8 & 10 Fix". The wine solution only needs you to put the files in the root directory of JA2, the registry one needs that you edit the reg file, put your JA2 folder path in it and then use it to add the line to the registry.

For the stuttering and (if you have some) freezes, my tip is to do this :

Decadent
I found a solution that is working on Windows 10:

Installed
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)

The only confusing part was that both downloads from Microsoft have the same name 'vcredist_x86.exe'

Working in fullscreen mode, exits without freezing, no crashing.

Thank you very much grim. We'll try to see which one works best.

As an alternative you could possibly try using a VM to load up windows 7 or something similar just in case that would work? No idea if it would but just in case you need another option.
