Iam not sure if its really a bug but on my game with the current build (8384) I cant seem to find any Radio with a proper battery inside.
Ocassionally I do find a normal battey but so far I was not able to power any of the found radio kits.

Sitting currently on day 22 and I have yet to find a radio battery.

Is it just bad luck or is this actually a bug that prevents radio batteries dropping?

Radios don't need batteries anymore :
Flugente:
As or r974 & GameDir r2270, radio sets no longer need a battery. The reasoning behind this is simple: radio sets have two uses: commands in tactical combat, and radio scanning in strategic. While the energy use is different, there has to be an absurdly high 'energy' in the 'battery' (otherwise batteries would run dry very fast if time compression is small). So we either have batteries that last for ages, or batteries that run dry really, really fast.

Additionally, keeping this powered with batteries is tedious. It's okay for the motion detector, which is a powerful device one would use all the time if the usage wasn't restricted by the (relative) scarcity of batteries. I don't see the need for that with the radio set, as the radio jamming already provides a countermeasure for both teams... and the weight of the set, need to block an important LBE slot and limited qualified personnel are already a limiting factor.

Plus having at least some parts of the game become a lit less tedious (you might have merc with the correct trait and equipped the correct item in the correct way, but have you attached the correct other item?) would be nice change.

On the subject of radio jamming... I can't work out how to do it since updating from the stable release (from a few years ago) to a release from the beginning of the month. I don't even see it as an option where it used to be. What's going on with that?

* bump *

Sorry to be a pest about this but I do need an answer.

How do I jam enemy comms and prevent them from calling reinforcements?

Having the same issue.

Also, I dont seem to be able to get the radio working at all.

My IMP has the Radio Operator trait, a radio set in his "main hand" and when i alt-click i get the radio options, but everything is greyed out.

Can anyone advise?

The radio is not carried in the hand, it is worn as a day bag. But you can't wear it at the same time as you wear a large field pack, it's on or the other.

I believe the option you're looking for is control right click which brings up a merc specific context menu where you can assign someone as a spotter, there should also be something for radio operator.

If not it may be something like control 5 or 4, I would check but I'm at work.

In order to use the radio, a merc needs
  • the Radio Operator trait
  • a radio (item #1697 in stock 1.13) worn in the combat pack slot
You can call the menu with the radio commands by pressing $ in tactical (so [Shift] + [4] unless your keyboard is different).

Saren threw his head back and screamed in impotent fury, before falling to his throne, head in his claws, trembling in horrified disbelief.

Then he heard a faint chime as Sovereign subscribed to her ECHO channel.

If you want, you can donate to me. This will not affect how and what I code, and I will not code specific features in return. I will be thankful though.
