When I had HD 7970 everything worked fine but when I upgraded to GTX 1080 when I enter the game intro and menu music plays but everything is black... I have to ctrl-alt-del to exit. Any ideas??

UPDATE:
It would seem the problem was solved with this old WineD3D trick:
(btw, my system is Windows 10)

But now I have those infamous freezes. Mouse locks but music keeps playing. At that point I can only alt-tab the exit.
I'm using the latest 1.13

It may not neccessarly be your graphics card, I have a 1070 and it runs flawlessly, are you using windows 10?

As I mentioned in another post the solution to freezing and crashing on windows 10 was to install:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)

The other necessary change was running the registry fixes.

I didn't have 2008 and 2005 installed. Well, that's corrected now happy
But what are those necessary registry fixes you talk about?

The registry fix files are contained in a download - Search forum - 'JA2 1.13 Windows 8.1 -- Consistent Freezes' (I cannot paste a link due to 10 post rule)

No need to use these files: ddraw.dll, libwine.dll, wined3d.dll

Just remember to edit the registry files as explained in the post.
