Hello everyone.

I'm plying the 8345 build with the aimnas xmas 2014 release, and the Game is running awfully slow in RealTimeMode. Sometimes its getting a little better, but most of the time i'm glad when turn based kicks in. I'm talking about literally 5 fps, no bs.

Had kind of similar problems with earlier, stable builds like 7435, but then it was more like 20 fps, which was kind of okay, so i didnt care a lot, But right now it a punishment to plat realtime.

Vertical Sync is turned off, i'm running it on a dualcore 2,00 ghz, 3 gb ram laptop.

Someone got an idea?

In case you use Win 8/Win 10, did you use the fixes from the Docs-folder?

I know now that it could never work between us, as much as we wanted to, it could never be! Not because you're a rabbit, but because you're black.

If you want, you can donate to me. This will not affect how and what I code, and I will not code specific features in return. I will be thankful though.

The fixes are only for Win8/10. On Win7 the game should run smoothly from the start. Maybe it's the laptop that is too slow? You may try a lower resolution and see if that helps.

Is it throughout the game or just when moving around the map? Take it you've turned off 'Merc lights when moving' which is a common cause of stuttering graphics. A dual core system should be man enough though that's not much RAM.

Any MOLLE items involved? Those are notorious for causing low FPS rates as well.

Merc lights are off, No Molle pouches.

Its throughout the whole game, even without scrolling. The cursor itself moves stuttering, does not react immediately, sometimes clicks arent recognized at all.

And when i hover the cursor over, for example, magazines, when the corresponding weapon glows up it always gets a little stutterry for a second or two. this happens all the time, in turnbased too, even in sector inventory.

I have one of those "Intel HD Graphics" onboard chips instead of a graphic card, which isnt exactly a powerhouse.
But since it used to work on this system earlier, i dont really think thats the reason.

Edit: Tried lower resolution (800x600), didnt help.

Try a vanilla installation in another location, preferably a different HDD. If vanilla still lags, it some hardware issue. If it doesn't try running v1.13 without AIMNAS in the new location. Then finally AIMNAS.

Could be early signs of HDD failure or considering it's a shared memory RAM video chip, problems with the RAM chips. God forbid it is, just saying...

AIMNAS items may well add some chug to it. Anv had a similar issue and flagged this:

Apparently file IncompatibleAttachments.xml is processed every render frame, probably to show outline on compatible items. I'm not even going to comment on how great idea is that - however while this file in 1.13 has 60KB, in AIMv53NAS it has 1,2MB. On my old Sempron I couldn't even throw items before, lag was too severe to register my mouse clicks.

@shanga: well, this sounds like fun already. before i read your comment i already tried a fresh installation (the last stable one [7354 or whats the number?] with the update) and aimnas, no change here. especially lags with greater amounts of enemys on map, even withot them being visible. Although it will be tedious i'll try your approach. note: no other hdd than c:.

I was almost sure it could be related to the graphics chip, though hoping there would be some way to fix problems with it. Y'know, JA2 being quite an old game I would never assume to have problems with it.

"Early signs of HDD failure..." mfw.

Alright, I tried it.

1) Vanilla: Runs smoothly, no Problems at all
2) Just 1.13 7354 WITHOUT update: Low performance
3) 1.13 With update: Low Performance
4) 1.13 with update + AIMNAS (and this is the only setup i am willing to play): Low Performance

Maybe its the higher resoluion?
Have tried it with 800x600 (preferred resolution in terms of object and font size), 1024x768 and 1360x768 (native screen resolution), couldnt execute it with other resolutions for unknown reasons. Using the INI-Editor (which doesnt recognize the .exe for whatever reason, i just use it for resolutions and editing the INI)

FYI, I've improved this part in r8394 - that data is only checked if necessary, thereby speeding up inventory rendering. There is still a noticable slowdown in those AIMNAS cases, but less than before.

There is still potential for further speeding up the rendering by improving the attachment code (we could use static maps of maps and other stuff to remember every item calculation and so on), but that would require a bigger amount of code rework.

Now i's geting interesting:

I Installed th last stable build with AIMNAS *again*, for some unknown reaasons its now running at normal fps.
I did the same steps as before. Is it possible my computer is just picky?

Edit: Playing it with 800x600

Try scanning for bad sectors, there is no such thing as "picky" computers, except when it picks to install your files on a couple of bad zones. big grin
Or it could be that in previous AIMNAS install you missed something? The plot is really thickening...
