Hi everyone,

I hope this is the right subforum to write in with this question.

I'm quite familiar with JA2 and played the original up and down (without UB). I also tried v1.13 many years ago and I liked it very much! Hopefully the creators keep up their great work, it's just awesome.

Now my question: I would like to play one of the well worked-out mods (like Urban Chaos I heard of). I never played any of them. Which mod would you recommend for me with the following characteristics:
- runs stable
- works more or less well with v1.13 feature-wise (the more features of v1.13 work, the better it is)
- has a different map than the original JA2 (I never played UB)
- well balanced gameplay

Thanks for helping,
H

Hey mate!
Im trying to get back into action, and really suggest you Urban Chaos.
Whole new map, so big and amazing, new story, new characters and lots more.
Playd a few years back UC113, now trying to make myself a Nostalgia trip, but something not working out.
So im joing this question. Is there any mods we can play like he described? I dont really want to play old map, cuz i spent few thousands hour with and without v113. Can we play UC with lates updates? Or if there any mods alike?
Currently trying to run UC with this
Original UC data folder.
Then latest SCI 8403 on game dir 2363
Then UC 113 version 4.50 on top of it.
And i have a error pop up and it wont start playing. screenshot - https://ibb.co/migmYF
Assertion Failure (Line 328 in File Strategic Movement Cost.cpp)

Normal map v133 with same SCI working just fine. Please help me, or maybe i have to use a older versions?
Thanks

Check will's notes but I am 99% sure JA2UC v1.13 uses an old exe. There should be a faq in the dedicated subforum.

Thanks guys!
And yes, RaideRRazor, I totally would like to get this running, too happy
Unfortunately I couldn't find that FAQ mentioned by Shanga.
Much appreciation for any help on this here.

Ah, now I got it:
http://thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com/index.php?t=msg&th=18716&goto=316490&#msg_316490

Does someone know if this is working like described? Seems about 1,5 or 2 years old. I need to look first where to get old SCI files.

I dont see why not, the files should be available from usual repos. Plus I see it supports the last official Stable release, which is your safest bet always.

http://thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com/index.php?t=msg&th=23389&start=0& look up here mate! With massive help i had my game running!
Also i you cant wrap your head around installation look up here the video is old, and he is using older version of everything, but steps exactly the same.
You need to have Original UC Folder, and the way to obtain it, get yourself selfinstall of original UC, create a folder, put in to folder JUST JA2.exe, run that selfinstaller, find that folder with exe file, target it and istall, you will get Data folder, rename it to data UC and paste in original JA2 Gold folder. Rest is simple happy

I can recommend that you play it in this order:

Arulco Revisited basically a map mod, works like a charm. You can get to know the latest builds quirks if you havent played for a while.

UrbanChaos (ofc): item and map mod, new quests and maps. A lot of cqc and hunting around buildings. Metro system is very nice for getting around. Since its old, some weird stuff happens every once in a while with the latest builds

AIMNAS big maps: item, map and IMHO gameplay mod. I felt no need to modify the INI here (a tweak here or there, mainly reinforcement settings)
Still under construction, highlights include:

Like UC, grenade launchers throw a long way. Its always fun to blow up redshirts
A high powered sniper can pick people off clear across the map (a big map at that)
RPG can actually hit the building you are aiming for
Good gear costs a lot, and gives 10% better performance for 500% the price (kinda like real world)

The bad things, well, its big. A lot of enemies mean a lot of waiting for their turns. Also, if ure sniping 200 tiles, that means scrolling up an down is a pain in the (aimn)ass.

All in all I feel Smeagol really nailed the "mechanics" here.

So that should keep you good for at least a couple of months. HF aww

You may also try Arulco Revisited and Arulco Vacations. The first one modifies every map...adding about 5 extra towns. The gameplay is different, you are supposed to scavenge until you can get to Estoni where the new airport is. Arulco Vacations also has new maps but the gameplay and pace is VERY different. I've gotten Arulco Revisited working with the latest unstable SCI, version 8349 I think, by replacing the Skillsettings.ini and the CTHconstants.ini from the DATA/1.13 to the DATA/AR folder. Also remember to edit the ini with the editor to ensure that the game points at vfs config AR and DATA/JA2Options.ini

AIMNAS is work in progress. Creating the maps is a huge amount of work so it takes time. You can download the latest version here (GitHub repository). On that page you can also see the requirements.

Its scattered cuz its been in the making for a while now. Its WIP, but lets face it, JA isnt witcher or fallout. Your goal is to get to the queen and blow her head off, simple enough.
AIMNAS is ready enough for that big grin

To be honest, after thousands hours in JA2, i killed her only few times. Its just game itself, micromanaging and all this exploring, getting a new gear, ahh man, there is nothing like it happy)

Just consider AIMNAS as a couple really big maps that are playable more or less as stand alone missions and you should be ready to go (don't expect to play a full campaign, but it will provide you with many hours of game play experience that is quite a bit different from vanilla or even 1.13 due to the bigger maps allowing for more diverse tactics). The couple items I added are just a bonus. ;)

I must have played like a 100 campaigns over the years, most of them end up me rolling up on the Medina with a stockpile of carefully conserved mortar shells, only to go meh, let's start another one ROFL

I really dig big maps, the for the hard work Smeagol!
