Normally you can't issue orders during the real-time mode while the game is paused. Please add the ability to do this, as it makes those first few moments before combat easier to coordinate and prepare. Thanks!!!!!

CTRL + T is your friend. Forces turn based mode. Press again to turn it off.

I think making non-combat portion of the game turn-based would make things unnecessarily tedious. For instance, when walking from the map's edges to the opposite edges, sweeping the area for enemies. Or when converging on the center. Big Maps will make this worse.

I think your missing the point.
as soon as combat would start you can force turn based then move people where you want using the turn base rules, then once formations are set or whatever you can (if no enemies are in range) click back into realtime.

I am not missing the point.

After you switch back to real-time you still can't issue orders for everyone at the same time.

1. For example, let's say I have two squads along the left border of the map. One on the top-left and one on the bottom-left.
2. I want them to walk from the left side of the map to the right side of the map at the same latitude or y coordinate as the one they are currently at.
3. I want them to start walking at the same time.
4. I want them to keep walking until they spot someone or reach the edge of the map.

You can't do this in turn-based mode unless you issue the same order every turn, for each merc, while going across the entire map. This is a major PITA.

Also, I don't see the advantages of turn-based mode in the example you provide. I can get my mercs in formation in real-time mode just as well as in turn-based mode. It's what happens _after_ they are in formation that counts.

I don't have a link to it, but this sounds like you simply need to learn about the Formations feature I added at some point. I think the current hotkey to toggle that on/off is [G] + something. Simply select multiple mercs while formations are active and have them walk somewhere, they will try to maintain their relative positions from the point you ordered them to move on their destination.

I didn't know about formations. But it sounds like a lot of work for something that could have been achieved simply by allowing orders while the game is paused.

There is nothing 'simple' about this request at all. That would require significant rewrite of huge sections of the code.
