Usually, I play a lot of JA2 vanilla because of accessibility, but recently, I've been getting into 1.13 again. It's just too awesome to pass up :) However, I always dread editing the huge ini. That being said I feel that the ini is, basically, a bit of a clusterf*ck by now. I've been using editors to remove line breaks and the majority of comments, but I wonder how much rearranging and reodering can be done in the ini without breaking something. So, I have a few questions and a suggestion / request:

1) Does the game only parse the relevant setting entries such as SOME_SETTING = FALSE, regardless of position, or is the order / the [bracketing] important, too?
2) To expand on that: Can I add my own [brackets] for organization?
3) Are there certain settings that have to be grouped (such as progress weights)?
4) Can I do inline comments? // Like, as example, in Java

5) I think it would be great if the ini editor could mark settings that deviate from default with a different color. I'd love to be able to see the settings I messed with highlighted, much like it looks before a save.

Thanks for you help :)

1) Order is irrelevant, [Sections] are important
2) No
3) No, as long as they are in the correct [Section]
4) Lines that start with semicolons are comments (when editing the raw text, probably no way to add your own in the ini editor)
5) Keep a clean ini somewhere and use Notepad++'s compare util/WinMerge/other text compare of your choice

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, I have devised my own method of keeping track - I use an rtf file where I just color what I changed and then copy/paste to the ini. As for the inline comments I was referring to something like this:

DO_SOMETHING = TRUE ;was false

Basically it boils down to whether the game parses entire lines or just Strings...

I hope it's okay if I use this thead to ask further ini related questions...

What is the correct formula for repair speed, and how does the divisor and the sessions number interact? I've been digging through old threads and plotted the formulas I found, yet I don't understand how exactly repair works and what a single repair point does - or if the formula changed in the meanwhile. Had a look at the code, too, and whilst I know now how the game triggers repair I still don't know the calculation - so how does it work?

EDIT: I think I understand now... the descriptions had me confused. Increasing divisor and decreasing repair points at the same time actually slows down repair. It's kind of confusing since the ini mentions that increasing the divisor and decreasing the points speeds up repair.
