Hi everyone,

I just started palying 1.13 7609, and I figured out quite a lot already. I can't seem to figure out how I am supposed to use the garotte in the Covert mode though. What I do:

1. Put sneak mode
2. Put Garotte in hand
3. Approach enemy from behind
4. Press right mouse button

Then the fist icon comes up. It doesn't seem to work the way it is supposed to, since I am only capable of punching people. Please, any explanation would be really helpful, seeing as none of the fora out there seem to be any specific help.

Thanks!

I'm very surprised you haven't received an answer.

I too had some trouble with it and I gave up on it before properly figuring it out. But I prefer to go in all guns blazing anyway.

Hopefully someone with an answer will come forward... Someone must know.

The garotte is linked to the covert operations. You'll find a lot of info there.
It's been some time i played, so what I'm going to say is probably false or inaccurate. The garotte is best used with a disguised merc, that is to say, covert, and then like you said :
Quote:
1. Put sneak mode
2. Put Garotte in hand
3. Approach enemy from behind
4. Press right mouse button

You need to aim at the head, too. There is a chance that your target will drop dead, directly, but it's not guarantied. The better yout covert/spy trait and stats of your merc, the better. The boni for using garotte are mentioned in the traits, by the way. If you're not covert, i don't think garotte is very helpful. You really have to play full spy to use it with efficiency, and yet, sometimes it misses and you're pretty f***** up.

THANK YOU!

I haven't had time to try it yet, but I think the right mouse button click, specifically on the head is what I failed to do in the first place! I expected to get a crosshairs or something of the sort when pressing the right mouse button. Anyway, I will get back to you on this if I get it succesful.

garotte either broken or inefficient.
I tried to use Spy with excellent stats - 0 effect. I prefer stand to adjacent to enemy soldier who is far away from others and burst, 4-5 bullets to his head. This way disguise stays intact if nobody sees my merc.

I did some testing with my superspy Nikita

aprox 25% (1 of 4) chance of success. Which is really low.

so if do not want to see something like that - do not use it

If this IMP fails to do the job, do not expect Elroy to use garotte better.
Conclusion - never use garotte.

Success and kill rate of garotte is 100% if Target is helpless for whatever reason,
and the game offers many ways to put target into that condition.

Certainly one of the most efficient items in the game when combined with other techniques,
but 1st attack with garotte is literally suicide,
no matter whether in real time or turn based, diguised or not, etc

Garotte is only effective if enemy cannot see you at the moment of attack or he is lying collapsed and helpless so he cannot react, and since enemy always turns to you when melee attack starts, he immediately sees you so this condition is never true.

I rarely use or get hit by flashbangs, do they blind the victim without dropping him/her?
In case they may allow 100% succes on standing target.

Yes, they can blind the target, also pepper spray should work for that too (but enemy soldier can wear sun goggles or other protective stuff).
I never tested though how garotte works on blind enemies.
