The Jagged Alliance 2 Stracciatella team is proud to present a new release. A long time in the making, it includes several new features, plenty of bugfixes compared to previous versions and the original game, and more work in externalizing and cleaning up the old code base.
New Features include a graphical launcher, "Dead is Dead" mode, bundled minimods, GUI scaling and more.
Read about the details, feature documentation and fixes here: https://ja2-stracciatella.github.io/news/
Packages for Ubuntu, Windows and OSX are available.

Hello! I've got some strange error. When I try to launch the game (I tried both ja2.exe or ja2-launcher.exe) I've got error: "Debug error: <path to my installation> abort() has been called". I've tried both x32 and x64 versions, and both zip and installator packages.
I'm on win10 x64, and that's my new computer, so it's hard to say if it worked for previous versions here.
upd: but it works on my laptop (win7 x64).
I also noticed that I gave the JA2-launcher wrong path to data folder. BUT: when I corrected it, the game still doesn't launch, giving me "the program unexpectedly stopped" as a standard Windows message.
upd2: The game works for my friend, he is on Win10 x64 too, so the problem is on my side. I have no idea what it can be...

It has NOTHING to do with 1.13. It's a vanilla JA2, re-engineered to work on most OSs (Win, Linux, MacOS even Android is in the works, I think) and with massive stability changes. At its core it's the complete opposite of v1.13, which was born from the desire to add more features to the base game, while Stracc devs wanted a clean, lean and mean code.
The product description says it all:
Quote:The name of this project is an allusion to calling an un-modded version of a game the "vanilla" version. The goal of this project is to make the late 1990's-game Jagged Alliance 2 available on a wide range of platforms, improve its stability, fix bugs and provide a stable platform for mod development. All these additions combined make the final product still look sort of like vanilla with having some improvements added as pieces of chocolate.

Is there any reason Stracciatella might be more difficult than stock 1.12. Reason I ask is I just played a DiD game on Novice. I cleared Drassen and the SAM site (with heavy casualties but no deaths). I then proceeded to move towards Cambria. On the way there I encountered a group of elite enemies (I think 5 or 6). They were super accurate and were throwing smoke and gas almost every turn. They killed 4 out of my 5 man team. The survivor retreated to the adjacent grid square. I sent 2 mercs to re enforce her and contracted Lynx who didn't arrive before the next onslaught. I tried to fall back again but was shot at from different directions at night while fleeing and again hit with grenades and gas. I dropped one enemy and noticed he had night googles and decent equipment. Anyway, I was like a lamb to the slaughter and I've a lot of experience playing 1.12. Never come against such a brick wall so early in the game. I really like the idea that Stracciatella is like stock 1.12 but with resolution and bug fixes, so I'm just hoping this was a one off oddity and that the team didn't make the game more challenging than it already is (particularly when playing DiD).
On a seperate note, when my team was completely wiped out, I got the loading clock and the game froze. I had exit by closing with task manager.
