Is it possible? I don't recall such stacking existing a few years ago. I'm referring to the militia/enemy unit dots, which seem to stack into a barely different icon for every 10 units in the tile.

It's strange, considering maximum number of units per tile is 20 by default (at least militia), and the strategic tiles seem to have just enough space for 20 dots. Granted, during battles there may be more units in play, but it'd be nice if there were a way to customize when and if icon stacking occurs.

In stock 1.13, in tactical the maximum number of enemy/militia in a sector is 64 each at a time. Strategically, this can be eas high as 255, excess soldiers will enter tactical combat as soon as their predecessors are killed off. Using experimental exes where these limits have been increased, this could be thousands of soldiers (not that this would be practical). As a result, the new ocons were added, I see no reason to change that.

I'm talking purely from the interface perspective, if there's any way to customize that, since it's very hard to tell between a single unit "token" and a ten unit one.

I guess the alternative would be to simply write down numbers, but that would get ugly too, as there would be times when we'd need 5 different numbers in those tiny boxes (3 typed of militia + enemy units + enemy tank units). I'm always open to suggestions though...

Maybe you can see the difference better if the symbols for mercs/militia&enemies have other colors?
As far as i can see the symbols for stacks are the last 4 frames in file \data\interface\boxes.sti, respectively boxes[resolution].sti
To edit them, get Bimbos Sti editor(or whatever the experts recommend in these modern days;) e.g. here:

Either change the triangle colors to satisfactory contrast or use entirely new colors for stacks.

p.s. @Flugente: it would be even 7 different numbers(mecs, player vehicles)

That would be 8 then, as mercs on assignment have a different colour from mercs on duty, but you can't see all of those at the same time cheeky

I think it comes down to the resolution. Higher resolutions have bigger unit tokens on the strategic map.

However, I play at 1280x720 even though my monitor's native resolution is 1920x1080 because otherwise many other graphics and text are just too tiny.
