I'm playing and so far I took only Drassen and Alma and all my IMPs and some other low-tier mercs I hired early on already are level 5. Level 5 is what mercs like Ivan Dolvich are when you first recruit them, and some of them are the best you can find in AIM. In just a few days a bunch of rookies got more experienced than most of the "professional mercs" found on AIM. It kinda feel cheesy, especially because other attributes progresses in a much slower (and natural way), but level wich is much more important goes up pretty fast...
I know it can be adjusted in the INI files, but I want to put it into discussion anyway. Speaking about INI stats, the exp subpoints required for level up is 350 x current level, and right know I think it could be the double, maybe even more. While it helps in next games, it doesn't help me in my current one, So I would like to ask if there is anyway do dump down level in a current save.

Ok, I play on expert and ironman. If that adds to the speed of gaining levels, this is probably it.
Still, I think this could be somehow reduced in general (not just individual) because as Victor_Tadeu mentioned, on the one hand you have Gus (8), Mike (8) or Scully (5) as experienced combat veterans with lots of tours and then there is our IMP, mostly starting out at Level 1, capturing two cities and suddenly being on the same level as the most experienced vets out there.
This somehow doesn't match, no matter what difficulty you play on and how long you'd be roaming around the countryside, wouldn't it?
I don't know about the technical possibilities but maybe we could keep the gaining speed and just raise the cap of possible levels, so Gus and Mike would have e.g. level 14 or 24 instead of 8.
This could be done similar to the expansion of the action points back then.
I'm with you on certain attribute points though but rather this way than too easy.

Not sure how it will impact the balance, but seens better. Anyway, another way around is to actually increase the amount of subpoints required to level up, something I already did in my files. I think it could be easily the double, maybe even the triple. It probably would make harder for mercs that never really sees combat to improve, but, really, I do think it should be that way... they are merc, not desk bureaucrats, I expect the guy who saw a lot of gunfights to outlevel a merc wich just sits in the back repairing stuff or doing bandages. While it's not a problem hard to solve by editing the files, I think the amount required to increase the level gain is up for discussion for an official change.
Also, again, changing the INI doesn't change my current game... anyway to edit a merc level? I want to reduce my IMPs.

No, no, NO. That would affect everything that uses experience levels, which is pretty much stats. If you want to alter how fast a merc learns, use the ini settings that alter just that.
@Victor_Tadeu: Merc level is stored in savegames. Of course you cannot alter that in xmls or inis.
I know now that it could never work between us, as much as we wanted to, it could never be! Not because you're a rabbit, but because you're black.
If you want, you can donate to me. This will not affect how and what I code, and I will not code specific features in return. I will be thankful though.Report message to a moderator

Any way to lower my merc levels in game by file editing or exploits? I was thinking I could just kill my IMPs, give more IMP creation points in the INI, recreate them like they was, give them the corrected level and play along, but I would lose their action log so far (like kill count) and I really like that shit.
