It has been up there since they bought the IP (when they aquired bankrupt bitComposer's assets in bulk), but no news about an actual game yet.

Yup, and thus far it contained a vague reference to a game in the making.

Now there's a teaser with what looks like 10 seconds of gameplay:

And a first look on RPS with screenshots and everything:
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/08/16/jagged-alliance-rage-details/

And possibly some hopes to be crushed yet again?

Anyway, budget cross-platform $20 game already pegged as panto by RPS. To be released this year still, apparently.

edit: there's gameplay on youtube:

I'll try to get my hands on it on Gamescom and then make my decision. But with THQ Nordic behind, I'm quite a little optimistic about this. They might have some ambitions to revive JA, as they did(do with other franchises.

After watching all playthrough episodes available from Writing Bull, i can see how the game adds features and layers of gameplay one after another. Don't be fooled by the first level on that.
For now, the story still seems really poor compared to the original games.
Graphics are meh-ok, not that bad in the end. Many details and animations still surprise me for the better, from time to time.
Tactics are growing better and better :
Stealth is playable, maybe too easily in the first maps (enemies can't see sh*t). There are view cones, stealth kills (melee, knife throw...), distraction with noises...
The maps are small but interesting. There are several ways to approach the fight. Some enemies patrol, others have a nap, they're not just randomly placed waiting to be killed.
The AI doesn't seem overly stupid. The guys go to cover and set overwatch when they can. When they cannot see you they will roam, search for you, and if they spot someone, they can retreat and regroup, raising the alarm.
The two man team is a bit restrictive, but i don't know if you can recruit more later. At the start of the game it focuses a bit more on the tactics and maybe on the characters.
On the strategic map, it looks like they are giving more choices and opportunities along the way, with branching paths and diverse objectives. It's a little early to say how deep it can be. There are enemy patrols you can evade or confront, maybe more later (?). The rebellion isn't very concrete yet, but maybe they make something of it later in the story.
On the humor and characterization, it's not that great, especially for me because i only understand a word in 5 in german, and the voices are not that good. The charm is not really there it seems. Elliot as the nemesis is very bland right now. Still, the mercs speak often, maybe it grows on the player speaking their language in the end big grin

Well, i'm still disappointed not to have a big game of the same scope of JA2, but after seeing a little more about this game, i feel a little better about it. It's much better than JA online and Shadowrun chronicles (past Cliffhanger studios' games), it looks tactically enjoyable, and maybe has it some other good surprises along the campaign. Just don't expect another JA2.

A jung boys parents have just passed away and the childs voice in the dialog with our merc comes from an adult woman. In mid dialog he/she changes her tone as if nothing happend and the world is perfectly fine....

It looks weird, so this is kinda like a Sci-Fi Jagged Alliance? i don't hate the idea, althought i get some people won't like that.
the art style looks cool-ish idk, i like the dark-ish abient.

Art style reminds me of this.

Looks to me like they're going for some kind of limited roster thing, probably coupled with unique character abilities. Something akin to the Commandos games, maybe.

Not really feeling it.

1.13: Install JA2, unpack latest, play.
AIMNAS: Complete 1.13 installation, Download ZIP and unpack, play.

JA: Rage seems more like a standalone spinoff.

i dont understand why all of these new games look like comics. they should do serious graphics not cartoons.

they're easier to make, you don't need to do a very difficult texture as for the most you pretty much only need a kinda low poly cartoonish character and a plain-ish material.

That's why I'm not interested in those "modern" games anymore. Diablo 1+2, JA 1+2, Silent Storm, Titan Quest or The Fall - Last Days of Gaya, the graphics of those games matched the setting. Imagine these games with washed out manga graphics like some of their successors. Looks and feels like sh.. to me. But nowadays when most games are developed for consoles and then adapted to PC, what can you expect? Even with games like the Elder Scrolls or Fallout series which still look good (even better after applying a community texture pack) you can see the bad influence of console development. Without community mods I wouldn't play them. The sound system of Fallout 4 was a complete failure and the UI alone is enough reason to puke...

TF2 had a nice cartoonish style althought it wasn't really so low poly, but it had this low-poly mod i used to like, kinda like old ps1/n64 looks.
call it nostalgia but i kinda like it.
althought you can tell the textures have nice details.
but yeah, some devs just go on with something plain and quick, which could work if you had some mod support and some good base mechanics.
but somehow i doubt it'll have neither.
