Long story short, I stole Kingpin's money, I do not want to deal with hitmans so decided to off Kingpin as well.

I positioned my mercs to a fine spot, and took a shot at one of Kingpins men in the house with a single athletic merc (ran back to hiding spot). Then, all the townspeople began shooting at eachother, apparently there is a "militia" turn, and there is a civilian turn, some of the civilians have kingpin tags on them. I think the "militia" are attacking "kingpin" but whose militia is that? I have no idea what is going on in this town.

Do I join with the militia and off kingpin's men? Is this what I am supposed to do?

I guess if you have mobile militia with you they are on your side and Kingpin's goons are hostile to you so they are also hostile to the militia. This could be an interesting fight.

It turned out to be that it really was my mobile militia, I have not expected my militia to be there in San Mona, this will definitely be an interesting fight, I guess I will change the plan to casually walk to kingpins house with militia guarding the door and execute everyone in the house in the first turn big grin .

I did the battle with Kingpin, got into his house, slaughtered everyone and militia took care of people outside. Strangely though, People with "Kingpin" tags stopped fighting after a while, including Spike and Van Hausen I was expecting everyone with a kingpin tag to become hostile towards my team.

I am wondering if this is intended of if this is a bug, does not matter much in my case, I just did not want to be bothered by hitmans, and do not use san mona often.

I always take Kingpin out and it helps you out a great deal. You have the money, capture a ton of good weapons, and better access to the town.

I actually wait for the hitman to find me so I can cut them down and take their good gear. In one incident one of these killers arrived in town while my mercs were asleep but Flo had just arrived in the sector after hauling some gear. He hit full auto on her and she went down hard, but then the militia had their turn and a dark green t-shirt clad militia soldier walked up behind the killer and blew his head off with a shotgun. End of combat and Flo was soon patched up. It went better the other times.

Hitting the town itself means picking a sector and killing the important NPC's. I've then had the computer give the "civilians" a turn and they're anything but...the positive is it doesn't seem to effect your standing with the other communities. The downside besides Kingpin's official thugs there are plenty of people who will keep fighting you...The owner of your favorite porn shop won't get involved, but also won't do business during combat.

You won't be able to raise militia in the town (at least in the versions I've played), but interestingly enough the army doesn't visit either. You can use the brothel and there is plenty of alcohol and weapons around.
