So you think 15k is still too much? :D

Appears it was moved to \dataXXX\tabledata\DifficultySettings.xml

No I want 40k so I can hire Barry, Bull, Grizzly and Steroid - I've always had them in my playthroughs and I love them haha

Thanks!

Out of curiosity why was it moved into there instead of the ini editor?

I don't really comphrehend how these things work but didn't it used to be an ini in of itself?

It was moved there because it is a difficulty related setting. Ja2_Options.ini is for generic settings.

It was moved there because the person(s) who decided to do so
has/have consided the .xml to be the most logical place,
and, i guess based on the fact that he/they know(s) the game mechanics so well,
could not imagine mere mortals to have issues following that thought and finding it in the .xml.
Or in imo unlikely case did value order higher than the negative consequnces to be expected for users,
respectively missed that part completely.

Ok happy

You don't perchance also know where I can find the option to turn on the option of being able to see enemies squads in areas I've already traveled through? :O

in r8517 its in ja2Options.ini named no_enemy_detection_without_recon,
if thats not true for later relases,
could search all files in install which are not older than from jan 2018 for the text string "recon"

Yep thats the one!

Thanks! big grin

I've also noticed that when I line up my mercs in a line they seem to hit each other in the back alot... didn't used to be like that in vanilla as far as I recalled

Has there been a change for that too? :o

Hi to all If you asking about money options I got same problem here in A.I.M.N.A.S. & I think that one million could be fine especially when you must arms your militia forces or you have 256 mercs team ...

To follow up on one of Townltu's comments, I also find that the decision to divide options into multiple files has mixed results.

1) Confusion 2) The need to search multiple files where previously we searched just one (huge) file

One would have thought that simply adding new Context Tags within the JA2options.ini (such as DIFFICULTY SECTION, etc) would have been sufficient, UNLESS we were nearing the limit for file size in Notepad.

The biggest problem in the current SCIs, and this has been for some time now, is that the user has to truly spend time to regain familiarity with where every setting is and what settings are gone or work differently. You have to find the various ini and xml files, you have to read them to truly know what they do (pretty much nowhere else is the documentation sufficient than in the files themselves, even there sometimes it is lacking), and then customize them since the new defaults may or may not be as in the past.

It is great to have all the new possible features, but the game is becoming more and more a hobbyist's game, in that you have to be quite familiar with the old and the new game just to be able to mod or customize the game to the way you want it to be.

I guess the best tip for any new player is, search every directory and subdirectory for the various ini and xml files, open them up in Notepad, and read thru them. It will take hours if you read it carefully, but then you will have a good sense of things. If you skim them in a half hour or so you should have some sense of what is going on. It takes me hours to set up a new campaign. Sometimes even then I have a few errors in the customization.

Reading all of Flugente's Magicka Lab, Absurdly Code Changes, and looking at most of his videos are also very important to understanding the changes in the SCIs. It's a hobbyist's game now, so I guess there is no way around it unless you want to go back to the 7609 last official release, which has its merits as well.

My thoughts exactly actually, I often wonder which some settings "What was the default option then?"

But at the same time I know it might be asking for too much since the people are taking time out of their personal life to code and create mods for this game out of sheer love for it, without payment which is fantastic thumbs up

If anything I guess it can just be more ideas for http://thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com/index.php?t=thread&frm_id=236&

On another note I actually draw back what I said about things not being in the INI; the INI absolutely should contain ALL off the options available in the game that are in the xml files, I don't there is any point in spreading these things out tbh - I'm having a really hard time finding things that was in the INI before but now isn't - And when I actually do find them in the xml files they're set to things I don't want them to be that isn't how they were in the vanilla game.. so yep.
