Hey everyone. First time post here, looking for some information on the food system. The last time I played the game was a year ago, and I know that there was food management within the game at the time. I'm also aware that at some point between then and now, food and its effects were rolled into the item and drug lists/xmls/files as part of an overhaul of the game system. I started a new play through on dev version 8626 and threw in WF 6.07 maps for good measure. I have noticed during gameplay, however, that food items and the food system in general seem to be completely MIA. The INI starter shows that the food file is missing, but I thought that was to be expected given that food was rolled into the item and drug files.

Is there an option in the INI I missed to activate the new food system, or has it been scripted out for the time being?

Last I heard it was still in the ja2options.ini . It is in the 8500 series from about a month ago. Open the INI in Notepad, click on Edit and then Find from the Toolbar or use CTRL-F and search for Food, it is under Tactical Food Settings and is abouit 3/4 of the way down the file.

In the INI I did not see, in a very quick skim, how to turn it on and off. You could set the option in the game previously, like choosing Bobby Ray availability, but I could have sworn it was in the INI before, so maybe I missed it. And now Flugente is intending to move most of the New Game choices to the INI.

However, my version is only 8589, so it may have changed. He did mention something as you said in his Absurdly Small Code Changes thread. But everytime I try to read things on the Bearpit late at night it goes offline so I'm not completely up to date.

I'd suggest using CTRL-F as described before in all the INIs and XMLs if needed searching for the Food options.

This is the old Food thread in Flugente's Magika Workshop:

In JA2_Options.ini search for [Tactical Food Settings]. There you can enable food and modify its associated settings. By default the food system is turned off.

Ahh, see there in lies my issue. I can go to the JA2_Options.ini using the INI editor that came with 1.13, go right to that very option you have both mentioned, only to find that the there is no ability to change the food option to on. I'd post a link to the image of my INI editor, but I need a few more posts before I can do that.

I've opened the JA2_Options.ini manually and changed the value there, so I'll check the game once I'm home from work and see if the direct edit accomplished what I am looking for. As it stands, the INI editor is still showing "FOOD: Missing property discription" and has New Value box to change the option's status from FALSE to TRUE

Okay. Solved it. I followed both of your advice and manually changed the configuration of the INI using Notepad++. Running the game using just the Ja2.exe gives me food and food related effects. The payoff now is that I'll have to manually change everything I previously used the INI editor program for. First world problems, ha. Thank you gentlemen both very much. I'm off to persue a micromanagement hellhole of hunger, disease, intel, and limited worker/militia pools. Happy hunting to the both of you.

Congrats on solving the issue.

Unfortunately, the XML and INI Editors are not kept as up to date as they need to be to be effective. Notepad will work, Notepad ++ supposedly has some great features (such as the ability to synchronize the scrolling of two files to the mouse, great for comparing a new and old version of a file -- so I'm probably going to download that soon, and it has color coding etc) that will make it very useful especially if you do a lot of modding and need to change or upgrade settings in txt , ini, or xml files, and it can handle larger files than Notepad, though that rarely is an issue.

It isn't as bad as it seems at first, you actually get to read the comments in the code that actually explain well a lot of the features. But it is irritating at first.

Changes just happen too fast in v1.13 so the Editors are falling behind, even when sometimes updated. Just finding out when they are updated and by whom, is such a chore, I'd rather just search the stuff in notepad, seriously.
