v1.11 of Arulco Vacations is no longer being supported. v12 is the current version.

I have merged elements of the SDO combat system into AV. I am eager to hear feedback on this as it is a big change.

There's a new merchant in Alma - Raul Mendez from Unfinished Business.

There has been a lot of work on the Facilities to allow for different play styles. I need feedback on how they now work together with different players styles so I can tweak them in the future. There are Facilities to allow for a supposed criminal partnership with Kingpin as his henchman, Facilites to allow the Player to become a tyrant Warlord with Secret Police and a Death Squad, and on the other side there are more facilities to allow the Player to win the hearts and minds of the Arulcan people as well as their freedom. Of course, using Facilities for all of this distances the Player from the supposed events happening while they use the Facilities - but there are enough benefits and penalties to the various Facilities that they should give a Player lots to think about if they are so inclined to try. I think there is fun in that, and that's why I included them. But like so much else in JA2 v1.13-Land . . . you have many options, and very little is mandatory

There are also several new or expanded civilian Factions in v1.11, and there can be civilian rebellions - certain factions will rebel against the player or both the player and the Queen if one if their Faction is injured or killed. There are new Facilities to win the hearts and minds of these discontented Factions to keep them happy, but once they revolt there is no turning back. For the player who wants to start Armageddon in Arulco . . . you can now rest assured you can wage war against almost everybody if you so wish.

Many of the maps have been tweaked to make them easier to move around in, and to be more fun to fight in. Army patrols and garrisons have been tweaked. Merc & IMP gear kits have been tweaked.

Many new weapons and gear have been added . . . including incendiary shotgun shells and the new Arulcan experimental XM-42 Flame-Thrower.

Much more has been done - it's been a long 8-9 months of fixing, adding, tweaking, and testing. Now I need other eyes on it, other hands playing it. We all play differently, and I welcome feedback from your point of view on how AV works with your style of play.

Sorry to be a pain Ed, but Mediafire doesn't work for me (website blocked in china, and when i use a vpn the downloads don't start correctly).

Is there another host you could use for the file?

I'm currently running 1.10 via sevenfm's modpack, will i be able to paste the new version over the old one?

Does 1.11 intergrate the latest +ai exe(r946) developed by sevenfm?

(edit: cleared browser cookies and now i can download)

I'll check those bombs and see what's up. I know the Skorpion's mag size - but to make an accurate mag size means adding a mag size in that calibre, which means moving a whole lot of numbers around in a couple of XML files . . . and I figured a close approximation using what was already there is OK because we already do that for many weapons.

I noticed during a new campaign that neither of my paramedics (Ira and Thor) can perform surgery out of combat?

Didn't test in combat yet, but i seem to remember when trying to give medical aid with a med-kit during combat i was not offered the usual option to perform surgery either.

I raised the qualifications to do surgery in v1.11 to Doctor skill (paramedic x2). See in SkillSettings.ini

NUMBER_OF_TRAITS_NEEDED_FOR_SURGERY = 2

Also in JA2Options.ini the Medical skill needed to deal with less than 15HP of life left was raised:

BASE_MEDICAL_SKILL_TO_DEAL_WITH_EMERGENCY = 40

Because, being a medic myself, I always thought it was too easy to heal stats back up. However, I increased the effectiveness of care from Vince or Steve at the Hospital to partially compensate.

Ouch! Now that needs an immediate fix for the SKS. Here is a fixed Weapons.XML - unzip and place it in your ..Data-AV/TableData/Items/ folder.

I'll fix that graphic later, and check on those suggestions!

I will refresh the complete download (without changing the version number) so anyone downloading the complete v1.11 after this mesage will have this typo fixed.

I can verify Wolf00's comment, concerning the black screen when flipping through the bombs pages in the BR website. Having the same problem in my game also.

And something i forgot to mention on the 1.10 version, it exists in 1.11 as well. Drassen airport, the little enclosure with the shed, just to the left of the enclosure where we receive our shipments. In that little shed, there is entrenching tool which is inaccessible due to some clutter in front of the shed. The tool is not important, we can get them everywhere, and the blacked out slot in sector inventory soesn't appear to cause problems. Just annoying to see it there. Do inaccessible items can cause problems down the road ? And is it possible to remove that clutter with a small patch ?
Anyway, i thought i'd mention it, just in case.

The bombs thing - probably a wrong number (typo) somewhere . . . just gotta find it.

Inaccessible items don't cause any problems, but I can fix that particular problem easily, and will post a link to a new map file later today.

EDIT It is now later today! Download this map fix, navigate to your ../Profiles/UserProfile_ArulcoVacations/ folder and unzip there. It should place 1 file in a MAPS folder and 1 file in a RADARMAPS folder.

Alternately, you can take the map file and the radarmap file and place them in their respective MAPS and RADARMAPS folders in your ../Data-AV/ folder.

In the in-game Options you can allow or disallow Zombies. Allow is the default in AV.

Zombies have always been enabled - but for the last several releases have been set so low they do not appear.

Yes, all the Terrorists are hirable. Fatima, Father Walker, Dave, Arnie, and more are all on the list to be made recruitable.

Yes, I thought about it. I think Grumm is a more likely place for harbour shipping . . . Chitzena would be smuggling by motorboat.

Cambria is at the center of the map, the perfect place to receive shipments. All it needs is a small airport, or delivered by truck from Drassen maybe. Or you can expand Estoni, as it is in Arulco Revisited. It's a pity why so much real estate goes to waste.

On a side note, i went to Chitzena to check on Slay. Haven't met Carmen yet and don't have the disk but Slay's responses are the same as in AV 1.10, where i did give him the disk.'ll try again when i get the disk. This was a test save.

Just in case it isn't known - in AV you can receive shipments in G9 Cambria at the "Delivery" warehouse building run by the Rebelista. It is locked up at night.

Yay at the new vehicles. New wilderness maps look very nice, with increased vegetation and stuff, they're very much to my taste. Liked the Cambria fences and the Meduna changes.

By the way, when i ask Devin to show me his inventory, the game crashes, same as in 1.10. Met him in San Mona, in the slimy guy's bar, between the whorehouse and the sex shop.

There is so very much in this game it is easy to miss things. In Bobby Ray's drop-down menu of destinations to ship to - among the many names in there just for ambiance - is Cambria. It costs more to ship there than Drassen because of the overland addition to the route.


New vehicles? Well, they've been there a while. All six vehicle slots are enabled.

There is something wrong in the XMLs regarding explosives (or possibly tripwire) that I have yet to find. I got the crash twice, once in BR's Miscellaneous and once in BR's Bombs but both at the same spot in the inventory (right at the point it switches from explosives to Tripwire). But I have not gotten the crash again and can scroll through both sections in BR without problem. Devin's inventory is a lot like BR's inventory in the Bombs section so I figure if I fix BR I fix Devin. As soon as I find the problem I will post a fix.

Ive played a while with SDO changes to weapons and i must say, its more balanced right now than in 1.10. Snipers and machineguns arent super OP anymore, although m249 in earl "magic" hands is really deadly.

Thank you for the feedback on the weapon balance. I think it's good progress and with some tweaks from Player feedback we'll get it right.

I wish the 1.13 had better burst and auto fire recoil code implementation. Right now when you burst, its either lazor beam or way way off. Nothing in between, because it either roll the chance to apply recoil counter force, or not. Nothing against AV 1.11, just as a side note, why balancing recoil for burst is PITA.

BTW some more heavy duty weaponry would be welcome. 20mm and 25mm grenade launchers, and that fancy chinese grenade sniper rifle[DBB mod has it] https://www.theepochtimes.com/china-will-sell-anti-sniper-airburst-grenade-launcher_1318958.html or barret xm109. Maybe adding enemy vehicles like humvees to complement that?

Six vehicles in game ? I know that the INI.Editor allows for up to 6 vehicles, from 2 in vanilla. The vehicles i am aware of are : Helicopter, Hummer, Ice Cream Truck, an Eldorado somewhere and maybe a Jeep ? That's 5 at most. What's the 6th one that i am missing ? There was a Jeep in VR, i am assuming there is one in AV ?

In AV the 6 vehicles are: Hamous' Ice Cream Truck, Dave's Humvee, the El Dorado in Alma, the General's Jeep in Alma, the Warden's Jeep in Tixa, and the Border Patrol Jeep at the south border post (Sector M13).

The Helicopter is #7, I don't mess with the helicopter. big grin

Nice, i like Jeeps, it's my all time favorite car, the WWII Willy's Jeep that is. Some say that it was named after the initials GP (General Purpose) and others say that it was named after the character in the Popeye cartoons, Eugene the Jeep, a small thing that can do everything. Both versions fit. It was essentially the first 4x4, able to travel in any terrain and fill different roles, having a radio, making it an agile scout vehicle, carry a .50 cal or some other weapon, transfer wounded soldiers and more.

Yes. it happens in Miscellaneous and in Bombs at the same place, and I think causes Devin to crash when his inventory is accessed for buying/selling. It is a difficult one to find the reason behind. I'm still looking.

Try this. I'm not getting the crash any more - but I don't know why because what I did should not have mattered . . . but . . .

There are 3 files in that archive. All 3 go in your ../Data-AV/TableData/Items/ folder and will overwrite the files there (Items.XML, Weapons.XML, Explosives.XML)

Also included in this are some minor modifications:

Added ATTENTION_ITEM to Laptop, Transmitter, Money, Wallet, Passport, Tex videos, Medal, Porno Mag, Beer, Wine, Alcohol, Cigars, Cuban Cigars, Che Canteen, & Cocaine.

Added MEDIUM_SMOKE (HMX, Torpex) and LARGE_SMOKE (Ammonite) effects.

Included SMALL_SMOKE effect for M23 VX Mine and M16A2 Frag Mine

Added <NotBuyable> tag to copies of the Tripwire meant for the Map Editor (try to fix Devin/BR/Bomb Inv bug)

Various Item Description edits.

Removed Used Tripwire Roll item from BR

Big thumbs up on the new release !

Interface question? Playing w 8 merc squad- which leaves a box space in the interface (between the mercs heads and the keys to access the map interface, change/select teams and options screen) then to the right is the mini map box with date and time info.

The rectangular interface box has the JA2 logo with the chick holding an MP image in the backround. I'm really liking the new feature that uses the box to show images of what mercs have in their hands (ie weapon/ammo count/item) and info on militia equipment status etc using the alt key, very cool.

Any idea on where I can find the JA2 logo of the merc holding the mp so I can remove it? I find the image distracting in general, and even more so with the new feature of images showing mercs items in hand or info on militia. I've notice the Urban Chaos mod just leaves that box space empty (black), Vengence Reloaded doesn't even use that space. I would love to see the backround space empty (black) so the images are clear and unimpeded by the goofy flaming red/orange JA2 logo with the headset tanktop chick holding an mp.

Love your camo bull (Jersey cow where I come from) mooing and the cool photos/images you use. I'm just not super psyched on that image and find the new use of that space to be awesome !

I always use a 10-merc squad so I did not realize. In the ../Data-CamoInterface/Interface/ folder remove the BOTTOM_BAR_1024X768.STI file. The game will then use the Vanilla file which does not have that JA2 Gold logo.

EDIT: Wait -You'll need to remove multiple files, my bad. All 5 BOTTOM_BAR*.STI files. That should take care of it.

Cool, thanks for the quick reply. I'll give it a go and report back.

The new (?) image feedback in that box is way cool. Graphics of items held in hands, ammo count, militia tool tip info etc.- adds a whole new layer to immersion.

Edit feedback-

Ok deleted all 5 and game didn't like that. Nor did any of the feedback images work, but it did remove the JA2 image.

Removed one STI -
since I'm playing at 1024x768 w 8 merc squad. I removed the "BOTTOM_BAR 8_1024x768.STI" Worked like a charm and definitely a visual improvement for my tastes !

I presume if you're playing w 10 size squad at 1024x768 you just remove that one. If I knew how to screenshot I would post.
But way frickin cool-

For merc it shows-
- an image of weapon or item in hand (or both hands 2 items)
- name of weapon
- status of weapon (ex.damaged)
- scope or iron sights (optics as well)
- round count left in mag
- fire mode (single/burst)

For militia it shows-
- image of them (headshot), name, status (strength), morale
- main weapon, hat shirt pants
- backup weapon, medkit, ammo canteen equipment
- status (guard), cunning, traits ex hunter deputy scouting

Another question regarding starting defenders (militia in A9 A10 sectors ex)? They are already present in sector when you arrive- and you can give them orders, and they will take freshly dropped enemy weapons. But they don't seem to rely on sector inventory, and are free defenders that do upgrade. Will they perma remain in sector until killed off and do they ever become your militia dependent on sector inventory? In other words they can take your gear but it doesn't seem like you can get the gear back?

Unlike milita you can pay for and train and who will also occupy the same sector (or mobile) but are wholly reliant on you equipping them, but we can get the gear back which they use but don't "steal" like the pre-placed defenders do. My work around for the pre-placed defenders not ripping off my gear is to stash weapons in packs and so far that seems to keep them at bay ;)
