Vanilla uses 'pre-randomized' to-hit numbers as an anti-save scum feature. It is mandatory-switched to a pseudo-random generator on each to-hit chances in 1.13 early development.
- 'pre-randomized' allows debugging with consistent outcomes when bug reproducible steps involves to-hit chances
- 1.13 is about providing options for players' preferences; be it vanilla, 1.13 default or custom settings
Couldn't find the SVN commit years back, so probably the change was done before the existence of the current 1.13 SVN code branch.
Requesting an ini option to have a choice of 'pre-randomized' or 'pseudo-random generator' for to-hit chances.
Feature request is sparked by anv's post:
(yup, FUDforum is broken for linking FUDforum messages... probably due to the '#' symbol.)
Quote:As for [helicopter] crash happening every single time on the same route, that's because chances of damage are using "pre-randomized" numbers, meaning all random checks will have the same outcome after reloading the game. Same can be observed after reloading the game during battle and taking the exact same shots. This is anti-save scum feature from vanilla JA, though it can be fooled by e.g. triggering additional actions before or changing their order, so it's not always obvious.
