Hi all. My question is regarding vanilla, I'm sure it works differently in 1.13 like most other things

I was just wondering what the specific criteria is for raising health in strategic mode and agility gains in tactical mode. I have had a lot of success raising agility in the bloodcat lair, just takes a bit of care and never straying to far from your safety rock. However, I've also tried to farm agility with human enemies, for example sneaking around within pistol range from the guard at the gate at Drassen airport, and nothing happens; on the other hand, I've seen agility raises from a significant distance in the day time, although that's not necessarily replicable in most situations- a stationary unit is best. Do the number of enemies you are sneaking around affect your results? Is there a minimum distance you need to be from the unit? I would have thought pistol range would suffice, because I believe that is the minimum distance two units in non-illuminated squares with no NVG or night ops skills can see each other. Is the fact that I was in darkness and he was not a factor also?

Now, as for Health, yes I know how to raise Health stat- in theory. In practice, I super load my mercs and march them around the map but all I see is strength gains. Do you have to raise your strength to 100 before you see improvements to your health stat? I just want to increase survivability for weaker mercs or restore the permanent health points I've lost before administering first aid to a merc in critical state, not turn them into Arnie!

Thank you in advance to anyone kind enough to help out here happy

If my memory serves me right, I could increase strength and health by running around in tactical with high loads. Sometimes health would also improve from travel on the map. Just don't try the old trick of giving travel orders and canceling them immediately. That doesn't work anymore.

Both of you are right. The main problem with HEA and AGI gains in vanilla is the required accumulation of points to gain a stat was super high, so a ' normally played ' game where you weren't actively trying to improve those two, might gain at most 2 points in either.

As far as the stealth sneak to gain AGI ; iirc it was based on XPL difference between the merc and the enemy. So you have to sneak up on enemies that were = or > in level than the merc to actually gain accumulation points. It is also possible to gain AGI just from moving / running around while in combat, while AVOIDING from being interrupted from enemies that were = or > in level than the merc, which is considerably more difficult.

With that said, that means higher XPL mercs, even those with low AGI [high Gus] will only possibly gain AGI in Meduna, if even then, as the vast majority of the army is too low level to give accumulation points.

Thanks for the reply! I mean, the bloodcat lair is fine, it's just the fact you have to get the quest in Alma to enter the lair safely and honestly, Ive never tried to take Alma right after Drassen, it's usually fourth on my list. I don't think my skill level is high enough to take it 2nd shy I'll just have to wait!

Yeah I don't think I've ever seen a single health point gain. That being said, I was loading up to >100% I might get more results loading to >200% but in vanilla that's easier said that done. Do you have any recommendations for items that are heavier than others for this?

In the past I used filled sandbags to overload my mercs to ~400 percent. That was very effective. I believe those sandbags don't exist anymore nowadays.

Some of the heavier things in vanilla were loading up completely with ammo, or all the laws in all the slots with a large pistol in the main slot and ammo in all the others, or, if I remember correctly you could stack knives in the large slots and if you end up with some odd% to STR ratio can bug you out the %weight to jump 80 or so points.
