Can anybody advise in this?
I'm playing JA2 1.13 (7609) and several MERCs have refused to renew.
Blood was recruited, refused, left; ten days later he's back and re-recruited.
Igor and Barry were hired (at different times) and now refuse to renew (with perfectly lame excuses).
The number of hours left in their contracts is less than 48 hours. It too bad for Igor MRK is at 90 now.
Other MERCs have greater than 60 hours, and several easily renew to past 3 days.
I'm in the part of the game where I've taken Cambria, Day 13; I've taken the Mine, fended off several counter-attacks (one 25 orange and black, another 34 orange and black shirts).
Recently I've taken the SAM site south of the mine; moral is good, and Igor and Barry were fine.
Because of cash issues, I was down to $500 and had to wait until mid-morning for the mine income to come through.
In JA2 1.12, 48 hours wasn't a hard limit, as Meltdown refused to renew when at about 60, and going back a full day I got her to accept.
It seemed that the more cash I had (and the MERCs seemed to 'read' the bank account), the higher number of hours all the MERCs needed to be at to 'KEEP' them.
No one has died recently, except the enemy.
Is there an INI setting for this (searched DATA-1.13 and INI form, no luck)?
It may be just the inevitable management issues;

Don't know if this will help but you shouldn't hire many mercs fast. It's not about the money only but also their morale, maybe no one has died recently but there are other factors to take into account. Their gear and weapons, good ones and in good condition, the enemy is not killing all the militia you train in previous sectors, you haven't wounded any civilians and left them untreated, your teams must be with mercs that don't hate each other, Enrico isn't angry with your lack of progress and lastly, why on earth would you hire Meltdown ?? Nastiest butch bitch in the whole universe. Hired her once back in 1999, after 20 minutes of gameplay, i married her to the Hicks and never bothered with her again. Out of sight, out of mind. I was so sick of her attitude, it became tiresome real quick.

Thanks, that's useful.
Also, I ... (cough) may have been ... a trifle zealous.
There seems to be an algorithm where (before tweaking) that if you can't pay a merc soon enough, a trigger is pulled on the algorithm.
The result is <whoever> has to re-paper their uncles bathroom, or so a seminar back home, and no matter, they're out.
Except Gary.
Just before he exited I suddenly gave him his pay and he stayed.
The advice about not hiring too many MERCs too fast is good. One has to fight them, capture the first mines (Drassen, Cambria) and build cash. I got short of money and didn't pay one or two MERCs and they exited.
I hired Bob, used him in several fights and then sat him back to train MOBILE MILITIA. Result?
He went into panic mode and all I could offer him was certain death with four other MERCs against sixty enemy.
Buns is another who doesn't like sitting around hearing other people fighting.
She's fairly happy when she is constantly busy shooting Red/Brown/Black-shirts.
She sat around and got really SNOTTY.
If I have to I'll replace her with Victoria (despite the bad Jamaican accent); and Vic can do maintenance.
In summation, it doesn't pay to allow the teams to get too big - like eight. Somebody is always not getting enough attention.
