At 1:45 the show the laptop interface and in the background it shows his stats like wisdom, marksmanship, mechanical, explosives, medical. And his level (2). Hopefully that will end up in the final game. https://youtu.be/48b3BIU7vVY?t=105
And hopefully the game is moddable/ they add mod support.
I've just finished watching the first five parts of this LP. Visually looks contemporary, overall a decent attempt perhaps, but other than that it's yet another inferior clone in my opinion, definitely not something that could top JA2 by any means. Seemed like it had a terrible keyboard scheme. Haven't played it myself obviously, but F1..F6 doesn't seem to select individual mercs, as some of these keys seem to have been assigned to other stuff, not sure if 1 to 0 would work either. Doesn't seem to have a way to go into turn-based mode (e.g. the D key) when desired. Far too cartoonish mercs, who speak way too much. No gender selection at IMP creation, unlike JA2, it most likely makes no difference. IMP creation feels dumbed-down. No Bobby Ray's or anything similar so far. Didn't really surprised me though, I was kind of expecting it to be crap. Watching this guy running around, trying to disarm mines together with the entire squad was cringe. Painful to watch videos made by people who have never played or even heard of any JA game previously.
That might not be the best person to watch - he even missed the IMP website to create a personal merc. There were actually a number of streamers who did not notice it - seems like nowadays people are used to the game holding their hand. The mine disarming episode is on the player - I have seen other players bunch up their mercs in prone position and then the AI simply throws grenades at them, wounding all.
JA3 has a lot going for it, including mod support right off the bat - they said they will release the mod tools in two batches. The first batch will allow you to create custom mercs, upload custom voice files, portraits and more and dable with some quests. The second batch will allow you to modify the campaign map and its mechanics to allow you to create a completely different one. They even hoped that someone might recreate JA1 and JA2 in JA3.
I am hopeful that this game might grow and be used as a modern platform to bring to a modern audience and continue updating JA2 1.13.
Regarding the IMP creation and gender - it is based on the photo you pick, as that will also define your body appearance on the tactical map. So you can pick your gender but it is not clearly presented. Same for the voices - only one voice per gender at the moment.
The developers in their stream yesterday stated that all of these will be easily moddable and you can add custom bodies, portraits, voices and more.
The point about Cohh not being the person to watch is that he was more or less lost in what he was doing.
The modern audience can bring new blood in the modding community as well. Do not underestimate this - we can get more interesting mods and ideas.
I do not know whether you played JA2 at launch, but it was also a bit goofy and trying to do more than it can handle.
The modding community made most of the features we nowadays take for granted. It also fixed quite a few bugs.

That's what I thought as well. It's way worse than vanilla JA2, let alone 1.13.

No amount of mods can fix a crappy game and "Mods will fix it" sentiment is a poor excuse for incompetency. JA2 was a good game by itself, it did not need 1.13 to be good. Look at JA3, after all these years, merc equipment, such as armor, still isn't shown on mercs despite running on a 3D engine. How pathetic is that?

It was the longest playthrough available at the time which is the only reason I watched it. Most other videos, including some of the "reviews" did not even realize IMP custom merc creation was a thing.

Such as gender-fluid mercs with pink/blue hair? That's the extend of interesting ideas they'll bring. The so called modern audience you're talking about hasn't got a clue about the time period that inspired JA series, they could only bastardize the whole thing to such a degree that you wouldn't even recognize it anymore.

Complete nonsense. I've been playing JA2 since launch back in '99 and for about a decade until 1.13 became a thing I only played vanilla JA2 and it was perfectly playable and enjoyable by itself. The modding community only improved and extended it a bit further. If it had been a poor game no one would've bothered making mods for it, cause the game wasn't even meant to be moddable.
Couldn't care less about the so called "modern audience", they would most definitely ruin JA just like everything else they get their hands on.

I wholeheartedly agree. I am sick and tired of kids trying to rush through and speedrun everything. I see them in WoW. When i pay 60$ for a game, i want to play the hell out of it, explore every nook and cranny, try different things. The joy of a trip, is not so much the destination but the journey itself. What's the point of a speedrun ? Bragging for crazy skill ? LOL, it's just exploits. No joy at all.
I wonder whose fucking idea it was to put zombies into the game, although I'm sure it would certainly attract the "Modern Audience", like flies attracted to faeces.
