Changing how the whole body camo sprites trigger.[message #365937] Thu, 14 March 2024 13:33

With the advent of LOBOT camo uniforms (thank you Asdow) and specifically CamoPants, CamoLongSleeves, and various headgear, it's now possible for mercs and soldiers to be visually camouflaged without having their skin turn green/gray/beige. This is cool because it reflects the fact that they're not wearing skin camo and retains their natural skin colour and keeps them somewhat discernable.

However, there's still a threshold of 50% total camo somewhere within the code that always triggers the whole body camo sprites that give skin camo, and that threshold is easy to reach with all the gear under CamoPants and CamoLongSleeves (For clarity I'm currently playing with BRAINMOD). So the problem is that we're getting skin camo again from equipment that isn't supposed to provide it just because the total camo exceeds that threshold.

Thinking about this, I thought why not get rid of the 50% camo threshold and make those sprites trigger only when camo kits are applied? I thought of other ways to deal with it, but honestly I think this way makes the most sense overall and doesn't compromise other properties of camo. It also makes camo kits more significant, at least aesthetically (we can always increase CAMO_KIT_USABLE_AREA to reflect the practical significance of this change, IMO 20 would work well) The only exception would probably be the stealth camo sprite, since there's no camo kit for that as far as I know.

Any thoughts on this? I've looked at the 1.13 source code searching for a variable that could describe that 50% camo threshold but for the life of me I couldn't find it in the files. It didn't help that my coding knowledge is basically zero lol, I only did plain text searches.
