I would like to see food. Nothing fancy like, "I found ten pineapples, three oranges, some bread, a little bit of butter...."

I would just like to have to buy food supplies for so many people, for so many days... and then lower the price on ammunition please...

I think that would be a good idea as well. A certain ammount of food would be required per day to keep the mercs energy up. Perhaps special rations could keep the energy level higher during the day.
But certainly nothing any more complicated than that.

I woulnd't even do "special Rations" I would simply have a part on Bobby Rays were you could order MRE's (meal ready to eat). If you have two mercs hired for a week, then you would have to buy 14-28 MRE's. (MRE's have 2,000 calaries and its very possible to only eat one a day and have your hunger and nutritional needs satisfied.)

i think this could be another mode of realism
for example:
rations required y/n
sleep required y/n
fuel required (for car) y/n

etc.

I think sleep should always be required, but Fuel and Rations should be an option

Fuel was needed to counter-balance the fast and easy travel offered by the cars. I don't know what food would add to the game besides more headache.

I think it would add another challenge and therefore more replayability.
Think about it, if you had to have a certain ammount of food you could be sidetracked into an occaisional quest that might take you all over the map (to sectors you normally wouldn't have to go to. Being in towns would be an advantage because you would presumably be automatically fed in a friendly settlement.
Food could affect energy and morale as well. Better food might add an energy and or morale boost.

it would just be one more logistical thing. Basically I found that there was WAY to much money to be made. So one of the ways to combat that would be that you have to buy food to support your troops.

It has possibilities and a totally new heaven for micromanagement enthusiasts.
As an optional feature it could be interesting & Scottybrown figured some maths nicely.
1 or 2 meal packs a day .... err do the "fuller figure" mercs need more +50% for Rosebud.
Skinny ones like Shank need less ..... mind boggling.

Auto wears out like camo .... just need some in inventory. This is what Alice packs are for ...

So can these meal packs be obtained from houses, shops etc ? what about ownership. Johny's snack .... do you shoot his agro family after raiding their fridge ? town loyalty goes through the floor due to a stolen candy bar :headscratch:

No, there could be two different kinds of food... "Food Stuff" and "MRE" MRE's you buy from Bobby Rays and any other type of military stores in the country, and the "Food Stuff" could be found anywhere.

Hi all,

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in here about MRE's and realism.

Yes, the caloric count is between 2000 and 3000 dependant upon the meal; but, over a period of time you would be doing little more than surving on one meal a day(a very short period). Living outdoors for extended periods really tears at the body, and one should eat 2 to 3 a day. You can easily burn 8000 calories in a day of outdoor living and high activity with a decent metabolism.

And how about some vegitarian Merc's so you have to order meals accordingly(veggies MRE's aren't half bad.)

Slightly off-topic, but related to logistics, how about some storage compartments in vehicles to transport said MREs. That has always been one of my small disappoints with the in-game vehicles; no storage space. I've never been in a hummer that didn't have compartments. Wink

Why not add some cannibalsim into the mix? Eat dead mercs or enemies. If things get really bad, sacrifice one of your mercs so that the rest of the team will survive.

@pavel I'd not like even the idea of that. It may be realistic but I'd not like it. :nono:
@enemyofthebowine: Why only bloodcats and crepitus? You forgot cows Wink

There's a really crazy disease you can get from eating people so I wouldn't advise it's introduction into the game or anyone's diet. Having built in resources in maps would be one of the things that might make the food feature an integral part of a few quests. I think this is the best use that could be made of this feature if it is incorporated. But I'd be surprised to see it incorporated.

thats why I titled this thread "Food... and lets make it simple..."
I knew this would happen, people getting carried away on the differnces between butter fried yams and sugar cured yams... All I was looking for was food. One mre per day, per merc. No more. Most people operate in smaller teams, so it wouldn't be a hassle to do the math on how much food your mercs would need. Bobbyrays could even have a little thing that would tell you: "Your 12 M.R.E's will feed your 3 Mercenaries for 4 days." much like the screen that tells you "You have 5 weapons that fire this caliber of ammunition".

I think MREs are a great idea. Lots of people (like me) are looking for realism in the games they play. This would not only give you a resemblance of real military life, it would be so cool. And yes it would have to be kept simple. You could say, buy a package from Bobby Ray's or from a store that contains enough MREs or groceries for one squad of six to last a week, and toss it into a vehicle or make one of your mercenaries carry it. But if you go hunting and kill bloodcats for food, I think the food should degrade after a week or so due to lack of preservation.

I say let the mercs buy their own damn food since they eat up most of your money anyway = salary includes food, clean underwear, soap and whatnot...

@Dragoon: yea... for some unexpected reason I actually forgot the 'One-headed Brahmin' and I'm not even gonna try to cover it up, although that crossed my mind... (hmm.. It is possible though that I was drunk & hungry when I wrote that..) Very Happy
