Dont be drastic. Wink
just ask for a on/off option for that, think that maybe a lot of people around that really like the bugs and sweet cats.

Dunno, but I'm happy that you can turn of the Sci-Fi mode, the bugs ruined the game when I played on Sci-Fi.

sci-fi garbage has no place in a game like JA :nono:

i forced myself to play it once (just so i would know what exactly i'm complaining about Very Happy )

too bad rocket rifle and bloodcats (although i can live with those) weren't included in the scifi option

I beg to differ. I like sci-fi, but I admit it's not easy to have a kind of mixed bag gameworld. I'd love a real X-COM gameworld with a Sir-Tech twist :naughty:

Jesus, what is wrong with you people? If you don't like Sci Fi turn it off. Don't blame the game for something you don't HAVE to deal with. Some people actually like the bugs.

@Snicker Now hold on tiger, nobody here is complaining that YOU should not play in Sci-Fi mode if YOU like it, they are just complaining that THEY don't want to play the Sci-Fi mode because THEY don't like it. Nothing wrong with that, just their 2 cents, just like in any other thread...

Let's all be good sports here

The mercenaries, hell even the militia and badguys of JA are superheroes who can laugh off bullet wounds, mortars, rockets, knives, and all sorts of other nasty ouches. Arulcan doctors put those of the Starship Enterprise to shame. Towns can mobilize more militia than there are actual citizens. Giant, man-eating bugs fit right in. :ok:

What i meant guys is that they better spend more time on cool enemy's, mercenaries, npc etc than at scifi creatures. I like reality more.

At first, I didn't like the idea of bugs, so I never played sci-fi. I beat the game a couple times and decided to try it. I loved killing the bugs, which kinda look like Men in Black bugs...
Malice says that he'd love to see one of those bibettes because he loves killing those things, which I found very funny.

My only complaint was that it didnt turn off the stupid robot, rocket rifles and other ridiculous crap aswell. Thats just my opinion though. You should be thankful in the knowledge that the game could stand alone without SciFi mode, yet you had the option anyway.

I have never used Sci-fi (that produced bugs anyway). I don't like the bloodcats, rocket rifles, or the robot. It is annoying to deal with the bloodcats at any time. It's a waste of ammo and it could get yer guys hurt.

I don't mind the bugs, take em or leave em.
Don't care.

Cats are fun to have around, but if you don't like em maybe it would be nice to turn em off.

But, what realy annoys me.

The bloody rocket rifle.
It's a pretty realisic game up to then (bugs aside).

I'd rather they ditch the rocket rifle and give people those 6 barrel Semi automatic grenade luancher things.

Or maybe an FN FAL with some specialist expensive Ammo.

Hell, maybe even a minigun.

Maybe I'm alone, but I liked the "strange creatures". They add variety to the game, and I'm not looking for realism, just good gameplay. Consider that the setting and game rules are not "realistic" to begin with (fictional country, stereotyped dictator, unrealistic damage system, unrealistic healing rates, and much more).

Furthermore, it's fun to splatter those bugs precisely because they're not human. You feel no twinge of remorse because, as insects, they have no sapient qualities, i.e. no thoughts or feelings. If anything, you derive more satisfaction from their deaths, knowing that you have removed an ugly crime against nature from the face of the Earth.

Finally, because they're big, they're easy to hit. There's something viscerally satisfying about going full-auto against one of these things.

I'm guessing that the bloodcats are supposed to replace the snakes of JA1 or something. Man, those snakes were eeeeeeeevil. Never swim without a knife.

The bugs are a lot of fun to fight above ground, but it was too tedious to fight them in their underground lair. There's not enough hours in a day, and not enough days in a lifetime, to spend so much time solving just one part of the game. Yeah you can use bug-juice to turn yourself invisible... and then the game grinds to a turn-based halt while you move your Mercs around the enormous map.

It appears that all of you call them "bugs". That's not with me. When I'm talking here I call them bugs but here at home, me and my friends, call them... argh! Well a single bug is a "Mamma". I know it sounds dumb. I laughed at it myself when my friend mentioned it. "Mamma". I died laughing. Well, after that, they've been "Mamma"'s to me. Very Happy

Which is why there should be an "Alien Invasion" mod, featuring lots of bugs in outdoor maps a la Starship Troopers (the movie, not the book). Would be interesting to see how they fare out in the open.

On the other hand, the militia would certainly fare badly against the bug horde. They inexplicably become stumblebums in the presence of the critters.

yeah, bring 'em on! More variety to blast away, and something that HP ammo is good for! Especially if their giblets are useful (like the crepitus jelly) - maybe if they were worth more money, or acted like health/energy boosters (which are pretty scifi if you ask me!).
And I think Steve Irwin should be an RPC, think of all the soundfiles available - "what a beauty", "holy smokes", "crikey", etc. Hahaha, then you can blow the annoying twerp away, always wished I could do that on TV!

I personally like the sci-fi option.
But since so many dont like it let it remain just that, an option.

I would like the ability to make them real badasses in the open. They usually just get chewed up by my mercs once above ground.

Q: It seems Jagged Alliance fans weren't all excited by the new sci-fi aspect, what do you think?
Was Jagged Alliance 2 the first and last Jagged Alliance game with sci-fi features?

IAN: Some people definitely didn't like the sci-fi aspect. To some fans, the JA series has become the tactical battle simulator and want realism only. Personally, I can't relate to that, even though I understand and appreciate it. I've barely even seen a gun in my lifetime, let alone handle one and am not interested in that. To me, JA is the characters, the role-playing and the intense battles. Great tactical battles don't necessarily have to come from first hand experience and familiarization with firearms. I would rather worry about what makes a great game than a great simulation. If that means having a weapon that does action x and has qualityy y, then so be it; I don't want to be restricted by reality - it's too limiting and can be detrimental to gameplay. Personally, I think one of JA's weaknesses are fighting the same type of human after human. There's only so much variety.
I'm with Ian on this.

Seems to me that so long as the sci-fi elements stay as a minor part of the story everything should be fine. My personal vote would be to have more types of people to shoot. Different uniforms, tactics, and so on. If I want a tactical alien fighting game, I'll fire up Ufo Atermath.

There are us scifi fans in everything. Myself included! But I do agree with the option to turn it off or on!!! I have played the game without scifi and personally I missed the comical remarks made concerning the bugs. (eg. Grizzly refering to his motherinlaw).
Further It was the scifi option that spurred me to purchase the game in the first place. "The best money I ever spent, no regrets".

For those that moan about the bugs, 'is it to difficult to turn them OFF' ???????? :armsfolded:

It costs but a Mouse click Sad

The bugs were fun. Everybody had funny sayings during bug combat. It was also a great way to pump up the stats. I played it both ways. Can see both points of view....

So many people like to compare Jagged Alliance to real life, and vice versa. I must admit, there aren't alot of games that can compare to it, and all the diffrent tactics and things which you can do takes up an entire forum Razz

I personally loved the big squishy bugs, The huge cats whos claws bypass armor, and that robot (battlebot) with a camera and a C-7.

Never did understand the hype around the Rocket Rifle, just that a lot of people hated it. I haven't used it much and don't fully understand it, but I think that it shoots rockets that are designed to go though people, rather than explode on impact.

Obviously, I don't strive for perfect realism Razz

If and when those new Jagged Alliance games come out, I do hope that maybe they will have a few nonhuman enemies and or mercinaries. and maybe a weapon we haven't seen before.

And hopefully an option to turn it off, for those who would be offended.

I loved those watersnakes from JA1. They were a really good reason to stay outta the water.

JA3 will have an optional sci-mode.
Since it is optional, all one needs to do is keep it turned off.
