Its strange that I've never asked this before!

Wisdom is apparently the stat that allows characters to learn faster than others. People with a really high wisdom tend to learn from situations and increase their skills faster.

I used to only hire people that had high wisdom, now I only hire people whom I like personally Razz .

Lets say I have an imp character named SAW. He has high physical stats, but low wisdom

Str: 90
Dex: 90
Agilty: 90
Wisdom: 35
Health: 85

Leadership: 35
Marksmanship: 90
Explosive: 0
Medical: 35
Mechanical: 0

Autoweapons Expert

This is definitely a possibility, at least in UB. While not the most exciting build, it could work. After all, if you already have the important stats high enough, who needs wisdom?

"SAW gets hit in the head and looses 30 points of wisdom!"

Oh my! And he didn't have much to begin with. ; ;


If your wisdom goes to zero or below (I don't know if it can go below zero). Will your mercinary loose his ability to learn? Or become braindead and die?

Its a good thing JA games aren't too graphic. I can almost see the grey matter coming out after my character takes a bad hit in the head >.>

I'm sure you no-reloads people fight to the bitter end, but its sad when someone who used to be very bright gets shot in the head and winds up with the same wisdom as the above average M.E.R.C

Yeah, I hate it when my mercs lose wisdom... I also dislike that your wisdom on your IMP is capped at 85...

This is very curious... I think that in 1.13 you wouldn't have a problem, your wisdom is boosted randomly for doing, like, anything. 1.12 and earlier, you'd probably gain wisdom the second you used a medkit. Or at least I'd hope.

Are there negative stats?

One game when I was using Raider (whom I rarely use), he got hit in the head several times. I think his wisdom ended up at 29. It didn't seem to affect his combat ability.

I think I may have seen some negative stats once, but I'm not entirely sure that I'm remembering it correctly. I had drunk Larry training militia at the NE SAM site, and he gained leadership or a level or something. After that, his stats were lower than ever. It may be that the numbers just turned red (indicating a loss) instead of actually going negative though.

I've had Drunk Larry get to negative stats.

Strength is a killer...He can't carry anything without collapsing if it gets that low.

Of course, I also got Sober Larry up to 101 Marksmenship once, so I guess it all evens out.

Don't know about zero stats, but I used Cheat O' Matic several years ago to create a "super IMP" - only I had the bright idea to set each stat at 150. And when the game started, my brand new alter ego began the game "Deceased" - this also happened when I reduced the stats to "just" 125. So at least 100+ (which of course is impossible in an unmodded game) is lethal.

100 is possible by regular gameplay, although I heard that early JA2 versions had trouble with that too... never thought of increasing to 101... I always figured 100 was the limit (JA1 veteran...)
