Hey. This is the first time I'm playing JA2, and I have just liberated the town of Drassen. Where should I go next? Anyone have any good hints. I guess I should find this helicopter pilot, but I haven't really found any clues to his whereabouts, only something that make me think he is in the swamps somewhere... or am I lost here? Which town would be the easiest to take after Drassen, and where do I get the most money?? There might be something about this in another post here somewhere, but I thought it would be easier to make a new one, at least it will save me the time... at least if someone is willing to give me some hints that is Very Happy And what about the Militia. Should I start training some in Drassen asap, and if so, have many do I need?? :whoknows:

Hmm.
I usualy take Cambria next, then Chitzena via San Mona.

You defenetly need milita. Keep training until you can't. Militia adds to your loyalty, which means more moolah.

Oh yeah, and before cambria, I pwn the Hicks for the goodies.

Ira, whom you get for free from the rebels in Omerta as soon as you get to their hideout, is fine for training militia for you. She's not good for much else, so use her for that.

I played it once with Ira training militia all the time. She didn't complain and did a good job. Her leadership and wisdom went sky high (and her shooting stat stays low).

I'm already using Ira as a Militia trainer. Any clues to where this pilot is hiding? I have been looking for him, but only in a few sectors around Drassen. Is he anywhere close? Thought there would be enemies in every sector, but some of them are empty... and that's boring, can't kill anyone that way... I have read something about the hicks, are they tough to kill? And do I have to kill them, or can I have the goodies anyway... probably will kill them anyway... It's just a game, right... Or actually THE game Smile

pilot is east of drassen in one of the swamp sectors. at the map, click on a sector to see what's there. Hicks, it's more fun to kill them, because it's a quest by a shop owner in Cambria but you can get guns by selling off a female merc (read: Flo).

So far, in all my games i found Skyrider in these sectors: D12,E14 and B15. Usually, when you enter the 'right' sector *the one containing Skyrider in a small house* the game says something like 'your mercs spotted someone..bla bla'. then you know its THE sector. Same as when you find Hamous.
My 'route' usually is: omerta-drassen-ira on training in drassen-cambria-san mona (or drassen-san mona-cambria)-chitzena. San mona is important to me for one reason only: Tony (15.000 cash per day), the tattoo quest (cash again) boxing (cash again) and killing Kingpin (loads of cash yet again). My problem is, i am playing the game with 8000+ enemies in it (every sector filled with 32-58 enemies), and, since i love Raven, she is such a furious learner and in no time asks exorbitant amounts of money. Better to extend her contract for at least 4 weeks now while she is still cheap. Later on, she asks like $ 150.000 for 2 weeks, and becomes the friggin most expensive merc in the game.
Well, after that, i kill a couple 'special' sectors containing gas canisters, like Estoni or B14 etc. This early, i am using Hamous's ice cream truck and burning gas. The gas deal starts when Tixa prison is liberated, which is still about 7-8 32-58 battles away for me Sad
So i hang around Cambria, whack retaliation patrols directed to Cambria and engage Biff/Flo/etc on militia training in Cambria. Only when i have min. 20 blue militia in whole Cambria, i start whacking SAM sites. First Drasseen, then the others. No point liberating Drassen Sam if i cant train militia in it yet (will be re-occupied very soon, Government squads coming up from Alma all the time). After that, one mine (Drassen) wil die on cash, and the game develops its steady pace. I will hire Gumpy also from MERC, so i can sell all those extra guns to Tony in San mona. So i have like 3 mercs from MERC, pay my bills regularly to Speck, so one day he will have Cougar available for hire. I absolutely love to have Cougar. He will become my best Mechanic (together with IMP or Grunty). Cougar is one of my most appreciated mercs in the whole game. Utterly professional, soldierly look, sneaky and Auto-weapons perk. A must. I give him one fully modded RPK and he performs greatly. Not Night Ops, but doing ok with UV goggles. He, Raven and IMP are my spearhead. this many enemies per sector requires totally different tactics. The ones from JA2 vanilla won't work.Guns are damaged very fast (lots of burstfiring, especially the auto-weapons mercs) so almost everyone in my squad has a backup weapon. Same caliber if possible. Cougar is just lugging behind another RPK with sniper/laser scopes, while the others use another C-7 or FAL.
Hamous is my Sniper and he uses only the Dragunov. No burstfire on that one, plus he can shoot just 1 or 2 shots per turn, means his gun will be fine for about 3-4 sectors. At daybreak im in safe place licking my wounds and repairing stuff.

Uh-oh, reply degenerated in blog. Sorry Very Happy

Easy way to find Skyrider- ask a civilian a bunch of questions, and they'll eventually mention a guy living in a swamp to the *east, west, southwest*. That cuts down the possible locations.

After taking Drassen, I leave Ira training militia, and take the SAM to the east. After that, I spend a day or so training militia to guard them, then go to take Chitzena (grabbing Dmitria on the way) then the SAM there.

About Skyrider, simply talk to the civilians and they will say something about boots and someone who was smelling like swamp.

About milita Ira "You got my ear" Mad ARRRGGGHHH... and your IMP should be enough to train militia for the first days...

Found Skyrider in the swamp south of Drassen, the last place I looked... Took out the SAM site at night, which was pretty easy, when my IMP is night expert. No I've already taken 1 sector of Cambria, the outbombed university. About the SAM site near Drassen, will the enemies try to retake that sector? and if, is it possible to have Militia there to guard it as well? Is there anyone in Cambria who sells or buys stuff. Weapons and armor, and all the other stuff? Or anyone who can repair my stuff, cause I haven't got a repair kit yet, and some of the weapons I have found are at only 60-70% The game is really good though, a bit different from JA2 UB, which I have played earlier. It's :rifle: time!

Keith
Q: Who is he?
A: A merchant dealing in various goods.

Q: Where do I find him?
A: In his general store (G9)

Q: How do I deal with him?
A: He sells chiefly secondhand equipment. His goods are cheap, though not
much useful. Keith will buy most items at best prices (except for weapons,
see: Tony, and junk, see: Jake) He will also ask for your help with the Hicks
(see: Daryl) When you're done with them, talk to Keith again. He will now
offer a better selection and Cambria's loyalty will rise.

Perko
Q: Who is he?
A: He is a handyman.

Q: Where do I find him?
A: In his workshop (G9)

Q: How do I deal with him?
A: Perko can repair your damaged equipment for a price. However, he is quite
sloppy (can't you tell?) and may not fix your stuff on time. He won't take
electronics (for these see: Fredo) Perko does his job faster if you give him
the items shortly after midnight and also when you collect them one at a
time. Keep in mind that with beat-up equipment the cost of repair is usually
higher than their sell price. So pay only for fixing the items that you
really need and intend to keep. Sell all other things. Leave any minor/periodic
repairs (like guns) to your mech(s)

NOTE: If you want to see your stuff get fixed in no time look for Arnie at Grumm, he can fix almost anything in 30 minutes or less Smile

Also, Deidranna will always try to reconquer Cambria once you take it. So don't bother yourself leaving a single sector of Cambria until you have 20 aqua militia to defend it. :playboy:

What about these terrorists I'm supposed to keep a lookout for? I think I found one in Cambria. He was just talking jibberish so I kind of shot him.. hehe... then his name turned to imposter. Was there any way for me to know that he was a terrorist? I talked to the people in town, but they didn't say anything about him. Anyway got his head now... Is Aqua Militia better than normal Militia?? And this Keith guy, won't sell me anything. Guess I have to have more control over the town first. Only have 24% at the moment. But that wont be for long... If only I hadn't been shot in the head, oh well, it will heal...

You can tell when people are acting suspicious, but the locals usually won't. If you think someone is suspicious, check your files and see if they look anything like the pictures of the terrorists. If they do, off with their heads!

Yes, aqua militia are the "regular" ones that you trained some more after recruiting them. They don't COMPLETELY suck, just mostly. You should never, ever, ever let the green ones see combat, they'll just get in the way. Sometimes if I have only a small squad I take towns one sector at a time and wait until I've trained all the militia up to regulars before moving on to the next.

Where is that guy who I'm supposed to give the heads of the terrorists too? I got one head, and went back to C13 in Drassen to deliver it, so I could get some really needed cash, but I can't seem to find the dude... Besides from that, I think I'm doing fine. Killed the Hicks, and got their goods, without getting killed, even though one of my men where shot pretty bad... But Fox is on the job... Trsining Militia in Cambria, and training mt MERCs, before heading north to next town, San Mona, or something..

He moves around.
His normal haunts are:

Both the bars in Drassen (the one in the middle sector far more often)

The cafe in Cambria.

The bar across from Tony's gun shop - err porno store - in San Mona.

I usually leave one merc in Drassen because he shows up here more often than anywhere.

Take a machete (I think the hunting knife works too), stand over the body and click on the knife and the corpse (similar to what you do when using a medical kit) and hack away.
You'll then see a new item laying next to the body.

Play around with it a little, you'll get it.

If you need cash, San Mona is the best. Money from quests, from boxing and from selling guns to Tony.
Yeah, from Kingpin too! Very Happy

Originally posted by Monthy:

The militiamen come in 3 ranks: novice (green in strategic view), regular (aqua)
and veteran (blue) The greenhorns appear first. Further training turns them
into regular units. Veterans cannot be trained - militia attain this rank only
thru battle experience. Hence before you proceed to another site there should be
20 regular militia in each sector of the captured location. The enemy will
mostly go for strategic areas, like the mines and SAMs. Place your first militia
there: they can be moved within town borders using "view militia" and
right/left-clicking a sector on the strategic map. The garrison will stand their
ground when attacked, but sometimes even 20 regulars can lose a battle. On the
experienced level I've seen assaults of 20+ enemies, including a dozen elites -
especially on those critical sectors. Oddly enough, veteran militiamen usually
die first. I guess the enemies simply go for best guards Sad This also has to do
with the militia's crap AI. When you do take part in a fight involving militia,
you will see how ridiculously they die. Razz

AUTORESOLVE VS. REGULAR BATTLES
So, is it better to join your militia in combat or rather to resolve their
fights automatically? In battles consisting of militiamen only the latter way
causes fewer casualties on their part, especially with the "instant resolve"
(skip forward) button. However, the same is not true of your mercs. You should
*never* autoresolve battles in which they participate, as this often gets them
killed. Don't rely on that stupid CPU when you can do better. Remember, tactics
is your advantage! Another thing is that in battles resolved automatically both
enemies and militia tend to drop only few items and of little value. Battles
fought the regular way will usually provide much better spoils. Very Happy
