What I mean by this, is if you are making a IMP mercenary, do you jack up the strength? I've never really had it affect my game at all, because I bring Bull or Steriod to break stuff and use other characters as mules. Just wondering if there's something I missed.

I usually give my IMP a strength of between 70-75 and have it up to 99 by the time I finish playing. Higher strength means better h2h damage, more stamina, and the ability to carry more guns and stuff. ther then that, it doesn't have much of an effect unless its really low.

I've seen some stuff in the source code which indicates that overloading your characters may have more than just a detrimental effect on stamina.

(Note: It's been a few weeks since I saw this, so my memory isn't clear on this point. You may wish to verify this as some code exists but isn't exercised in actual game play)

Overloading a low strength player can increase the travel time (by foot) between sectors in the overhead map view.

Sorry for the double post, but I forgot to add:

There's a bonus for very high strenght players. Strength points above a certain limit get counted twice.

Well,I start with 35 for my IMP!
But if you punch cows with 35 str you'll have dex 95 'till you reach 55 in strength!(you have to beat them more with damage2 or 3. Wink
Oh,gave up this type of training a long time ago.
Also,I noticed low str.mercs, marching, also gain health a lot faster than high strength ones.

It's always good to be strong when you march a lot...a str.90 char still has around 80energy after 8 hours of marching, decently loaded.
Steroid,Bull,Grizzly,Razor are maybe the best mules on foot the game has to offer, yes.
But str. around 65-70 is often enough for me,as I tend to move a lot using chopper and trucks, putting on the ground extra-stuff,right after I enter the sector.

what about gun usage? i mean... will the imp be less proficient with certain weapons (such as the LMG) if his/her strength is low?

IRL,you would have to be strong enough and have enough dexterity, plus the experience at that in order to be able to master the burst fire:the recoil and "muzzle climb" of a SMG...
Or LMG...but those, you would need to be strong enough to carry WITH the necessary ammo,
and smart enough to put them on a bipod, use in prone position,or...attach to a vehicle, not a person, and so on.
And certainly be a calm, collected,Ice or Len-like person (not a psycho bitch!) just for someone like me to trust you with such a weapon in posession. Smile

Anyway,if the game has this implemented,I didn't noticed! Very Happy

I used to start with all the attributes at 85, but this time I started a game without 0-skills, which required STR and MRK to be very low... and it proved to be a great success. With low STR, the merc is always overloaded, and thus gets stat increased very often. And it certainly helps to have all the skills available... especially when using the landmine trick to increase explosive skill. Smile

I know the strength number controls whether you get the large body frame or the normal one... A real high strength can cost you Action Points ... The difference is usually 3... I dont usually Start lower than a 70... I dont do the landmine trick ... used to punch cows for dex, however it has gotten to boring

Haven't read the overload-stat-whore-trick here.
Lemme spam.

Overload a merc -> mortar-shell work great.
On the map issue a movement order, but don't accel-time.
Cancel the movement order.
This will result in added experience, strength and health.
This 'cheat' can get your IMP to level 4 within 5 mins, right after recruiting Ira who'll benefit from this as well.
The lower your stats the faster they improve.
(Dynamo'n'Shank are made for this)

Does the female sprite change depending on strength rating? No I'm not a perv just curious! I've only played once as a female just for a change in the voice of my IMP!

I have noticed that an overloaded character will have fewer movement points. An overloaded character can gain movement points in a hurry by dropping equipment.

There is no musculer female body type in JA2, wich really sucks because Meltdown should have it.
