3.Fidel(explosives expert)
4.Beth(good medic and fast learner)

So what's yours?Come on,let's shake things up here a bit...otherwise i'm in deep...****... http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I've always liked to use all-female team in DG. Scope, Buzz, Vicki, Fox... It's nice to watch their work... http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Also Static and Ivan are top-notches... http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/ubb/cool.gif

Mine!
1.Ivan
2.Fidel
3.Speck (mech)
4.Fox (medic)
5.Ice

I also usually acquire the services of Skiz and Tex as well, and would even hire the crappy Reuban if not for the hate towards Ivan.

BTW, they should have incorporated that "Cop-a-feel" thing to JA2... It woulda been fun seeing some of the psychos go berserk when somebody tried to fondle them http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Definitely Ivan is the best merc that a newbie can hire in JA1. I gave him a modified .45 and he is my sniper!

Speck - mechanics, lockpick (but I hate him)
Wolf - next best shooter
Fox - great deadly girl
Ice - also good

I do not have a qualified nurse, but I'm a newbie at JA1,so don't be too hard on me. I'm just starting to learn it, the hard way (getting kicked in the but).

When i first time saw Ivan i was quite impressed of that grenade!

Ivan is the best...

Nah, the team you need is
1. Grunty - point man
2. Ivan - gunner
3. Vinny - mechanic

Day three
1. Ice - gunner
2. Fidel - gunner/explos.
3. Doc - point man/med
Grunty handles field medic and point duties.
Three gunners allows easy rotation (two on, one healing resting) and if you look up the formulas, Vinny is a better lockpicker than Jimmy, and is a far better shot.

The key is to think long term, as not a lot of firing can be done.

First, welcome...

Excellent point here! Used to DG and JA2 when I first rushed to play JA1 (I only got the game this year) I started out with lots of guns and few boxes of ammo. Soon I was fighting enemies with knives, because by guns had run dry! http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/ubb/confused.gif
That makes me say that JA1 had a far more hard and balanced gameplay. It was hard to get a good team in the beginning and some decent weapons, so they joy of firing a modified Colt 45 was immense. Although unrealistic a bit, the ultimate weapons, the mod M16, was indeed priceless and worth sniping, cause a shot with it was definitely deadlier than one with the gun.

1. Grunty
2. Snake
3. Jimmy
4. Elroy

Sometimes Ice or Ivan instead of Grunty.

I agree with Viper about using the female mercs first....they are quite impressive to watch while they improve diligently.

I believe that Ivan is a good starting merc...he may not speak too much English, but he is a great shot....when I first played the game, I was annoyed of Ivan...but now I look back, and I find that Ivan is worth every penny, and worth as a good starting merc.

My two cents in......i hope that was sensible....

I just noticed this thread...

My initial team is actuall all on one line in the AIM listing. It is:

Hitman (Good shoot who is also cheap)
Cliff (Great marksmanship for a Doc)
Leech (Excellent marksmanship but
bloodthirty)
Ice (My favorite merc)
Speck (Train him on med for two days and
then start repairing. He's a great
mechanic and a decent doctor.)

After those guys I sometimes get someone else such as Ivan or Mouse.

I've started the main canpaing in JADG and I've got a decent team under 5000$
Leech (Cheap shooter, but got to kill to stay).
Hitman (Good attitude, good shooter for his price)
Beth (Cheap doc, and not-that bad shot)
Malice (Great attitude, good shooter, but it's like Leech, got to kill to stay)
Postie (Love his paranoia, except that, he a lower-meduim merc)
Cliff (another decent shot, and good doctor)

Some times I hire Speck for repairs.

The only problem in the team in that Leech, Malice and Postie don't quit shooting at a traget until it dies, so there's always a square taken for a knife.

The Sabre> Well, there really isn't a helicopter in Metavira, but, everytime you hire merc's from A.I.M... You'll have to pay to the pilot so he can get you're new guys to Metavira... It is like a travel expenses...

That's the only way you can use chopper in JA1 http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/smilies/laugh.gif

I figured it would be some sort of travel arrangement, but do you pay the pilot for each merc or for each group? Like if you hired three mercs at once on easy difficulty, would you pay 1800 or 600?

I had an, umm... "abandonware" http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/smilies/uhoh.gif version of JA1, which I believe was the original disk version, but luckily found the CD in a compilation. The disk version just isn't the same, since it has almost no speech besides the usual grunts and OKs.

Now I'm looking for them again. Great games both.

Oh, my starting team was
Ivan(killer)
Ice(killer)
Fidel(explosives)
Eli(doctor)
Speck(mechnical)

Another question, how many of you actually hired Mike? $ 10000 per day was too much even at the end of the game.

Yeah, Mike is good for that final attack but at $10,000 the price is just silly. You can get lots of mercs for $3,000 - $4,000 that are almost as good. I would rather have two good mercs (say, Lynx & Kelly) than one perfect merc (Mike). Even Mike comes with a limited supply of action points so two 95% shooters outperform one 99% shooter every time.

Hey there!
I have a German version from PCGames Dezember '96. More precicely it was a friend who had that and gave it to me. Well in those days I played not so much but just the last weekend I found this game and thought it is time to proceed further than the first mission.
My actual team which isn't bad:
-Ivan(Does he talk Russian in the English version too?)
-Ice(next to Ivan the best killer machine although only 81 points or so)
-Eli(Doc for little accidents)
-Wolf(what a crap!!)
-Vinny(good shooter cheap and can open most doors)
-Kabumm(saw his IQ after hiring him ~lol~)

gosh, it's been a while

Ivan, Ice = snipers
Fidel = sniper and explosives
Sparky = on field day 1 (just for picking up stuff Cool ), after that mech.
Wolf = because i'm crazy about wolves in general and i like his broad specialization; he makes a good explosives and medic. his marksmanship usually picks up.
Grunty over Bud - better price, improves faster.

No locksmith until day 3 (by which time i haver 14 sectors), and then i hire magic. costs a lot & forces me to take a lot of sectors fast (which i like).

Mid-late: Lynx.

endgame: Scully (though he always disappoints me), Mike (because money's not an issue anymore).

Current starting team:

Beth: the doctor
Turtle: the brains, if there is a shortcut he'll find it (cause he doesn't like to take the long way).
Skitz: natural born killer
Carp: sharpshooter, Turtle's right-hand man
Wally: mechanic with superior marksmanship, secondary medic, some explosives training
Weasel: generally offers constructive criticism while Wally works on explosives.
Rueban: gives an air of professionalism to the whole mission

and Elio (native guide)

Santino better watch his step... TEAM SLOTH (or Snow White and the Seven Dorks) are coming.

Well, a very cheap and though - in my opinion - efficient one here.

Hector (for the fightin')
Grunty (see above)
Beth (field medic, also able to work as a doctor in the camp when dealing with less serious wounds)
Sparky (mechanic, in my opinion better than Speck, because
- cheaper
- more room to improve because she's got more dexterity/less mechanical skill than Speck (and I hate him) and she'll catch up quickly when gaining points in the machanic section; three points or so more and she's better than spec)

Later on/next day:
- Doc (good shot and good medic, necessary when Beth's skills won't be enough; more Mercs seriously wounded)

And when I can afford them

Magic (locks)
Lynx (sniper)
Spike (my favourite, though - I know and admit it- his stats could be better, mainly agility)

- Forsaken
