I am sure that this is a frequently-asked question, but I haven't been able to find it on a single JA:DG FAQ.

I am--no surprise--short on money. I am slowly working myself into the black, but every windfall helps. It was a tremendous windfall to discover ~$140,000 "in cold, hard cash" during a warehouse raid. I mean by this that I found an "item" called "cash"; by right-clicking on this item, it was revealed to me that this item represented ~$140,000. I had noticed before that discovered money-items didn't seem to have any effect on my broader overall cashflow. I had never been irritated by the failure of the cash to make it back to my "account" until I "lost" such a great amount of cash at a time when it would have been so immensely helpful.

How do I transfer this found money from a merc's inventory to my account? I considered that my merc may have stolen it, but it seems like I've tried at least three different carriers for three different money-items on three different occasions, and none have made it back-- I forget who carried it the first time, but the second was Eli (a doctor), and this last time Ivan (the Russian). I assume the last two to be reliable, and especially Eli-- am I wrong in this assumption, or (as I suspect) am I not going about the proper way of retaining these money-items? The day after the mission, btw, Ivan's backpack space occupied during the mission by the ~$140,000 money-item is empty.

How do you transfer money from a merc's inventory to your overall cash account? Or do you?

Any money you find during the mission is automatically transfered to your account after a mission is completed.

After you complete a mission and withdraw the team a little box with the words; "You have salvaged $XXX from the field!", should appear on the post mission screen.

Hint:Do not let Vinnie carry any cash that you find.
He will say something like "Thanks for the Bonus!" and dissappear with the cash!
I think he appears again after a few missions. Wish there was a "dock his pay" or "kick the crap out of him" option.

Vinnie is not the only one that will steal your money. There is a hidden honesty attribute, and those with the wrong setting will take your money and run. Tex Colburn cleaned me out in DG, and disappeared. I was so happy that he reappeared in UB so that I could beat the hell out of him.

A hidden honesty attribute? Never heard of that.

I've hired Tex often and he has never cleaned me out.
Like you said, since he was used in UB I proabably would have had Grizzly and Bull use him as a punching bag if that was the case.
If Vinnie wasn't in prision or whatever in JA2, well, would arming him with a .38 and having him fight the Bug Queen be a tad severe? :diabolical:

Other guys that steal:

Mike: Yes, he actually does. Give him very much money and he will rob you. A lot of (non-)fun this is.

Jimmy: He is a criminal after all.

Ivan: Evil, ain't he.

Well, I can just say that most guys steal if they get too much money in their hands.

Some of the mercs I don't think are thieves:

Spike
Len
Kelly
Bud
Spam

Not sure though.

I've never gotten any notice that I'd been robbed. No merc has ever "taken a vacation" or anything. The money simply disappears.

Does this sound like theft or like a bug?

I'm not playing Deadly Games, by the way. This is simply the original JA.

i had several similar situations occur in JA1. I would find some absurdly huge amount of cash and it would just never get deposited. The mercs generally wouldn't disappear, tho.
Sometimes strange things would happen, like I'd find -35,000$ or something.

Most bargain mercs (below $600) will...

Ivan hasn't robbed me but I've been warned...

Peeps I have been robbed by:
-Hector
-Rev. Thou shalt not steal?
-Postie (bastard)
-Hamous...
-that lesbo that ran of with Doc Trammel (Mouse).

Ice takes the money home in my games.
On days when the active-squad is 'unreliable' I tend to leave the money for another day...

Hello you all
I just download JA at Abandonia.com and find it a wonderful game.

I found $22222 "plain hard cash" at sector 39 at day 3, EASY level. I give it to IVAN and he keeps it to himself Mad !!!

He didn't say a word and not fly for a vacation with Brenda (Perhaps he's not in love with her Smile ). I suppose IVAN is not the right person to take the cash.

I will try to put the cash into the vest of other member in my team: Vinny, Hurl, and Grunty. I will try to let it on the field if all not work.
Luckily I keep all the save games near the end of each day, include the usual savegames Very Happy

i think that it has something to do with the amount of money a merc makes per mission versus the amount of money you give them to hold. if you don't give the money to a merc, sometimes it still gets salvaged, maybe all the time, i'm not sure though.

ALL of the mercs will steal if the incentive is big enough, except for the "bootlicker" types {Gary, Hurl, Beth, Ears, etc}.
The first time this happened to me - Rev was the perp - he took some the team's top kit along with him. So, when his "holiday money" ran out & he was looking for work again, I re-hired him - and ordered another squaddie to blow his brains out & toss him in the river!

Kaje, you are not alone.

I'm now too facing this bug. This bug make you get money of 22K, 50K, 143K etc but you are unable to get it at the end of the day, no matter who bring it home.

According to the Strategy guide, no more than 5K-10K is collected.

I resort to get more trees instead, and let the guards share their fortune Very Happy

Yeah. Its rather... sad. To give speck half a million dollars in cash. and never see it again. But, I can't just leave it there.

Maybe its an issue with the "abandonware" version of Jagged Alliance?

Oh now I understand how Speck got the capital to start a MERC competitor with AIM at JA2 Very Happy

You are correct, maybe because I use abandonware version. Pity JA2 is still sold but I cannot buy it at my country. Now I play JA2 WildFire 5.0.

Truly a great game, it have create a genre on its own, JA genre. And the mods sound Smile excellent (I cannot use mods downloaded here for JA2WF, therefore only can read posts about it)

- the "hidden dishonesty attribute" is simply the merc salary. The lower the salary, the higher chance of merc running off with cash in hand Wink

- the circulating 'abandonware version' is in fact a broken warez release of the diskette version of the game Wink When you find some crazy cash amount like $1674565, well thats it bandido :bandit:

- Google knows about a 2.3 version of the JA1 faq, thats the best I know about

HtH

I'd always assumed that the stupidly huge numbers were a bug, and that my account seemed to go out about $100 after each unit of cash. Or is this just me?

Tai and kropotkin are correct: each mercenary has a ratio limit between their salaries and the amount of money they can carry before they take off and disappear. Some snitches however, as idkfa noted, actually won't take off on you.

Solution: try to split up money among all of your mercs before you exit a sector or mission (but that's not always possible).

I think in the real version that $5000 is the most money you can find at once? I can't remember... it's been a few years since I've played.

I have the same problem--all money I pick up is in the thousands.
