I felt like playing the classic but can't really find a copy anywhere, so what kind of options are there? I've checked the forums but haven't found anything satisfactory, and can't really find the game on the abandonware sites either.

I've tried downloading a copy but the problem is the game wants a CD too, something I don't have. Of course it wouldn't be a problem to crack the game but since it's like a ten year old game there's no crack to be found.

If anyone has any suggestions how to get the game working or where I can get the game cheap (I don't want to pay much for such an old game) please tell me, I really have to play the game again Smile

Thanks in advance

There is a file in the dir for the game. I believe it's called "CD" but I'm not entirely sure.

Open the file with notepad and it should have a drive letter (for your CD/DVD drive) change the drive letter to whatever you have the game installed on (for instance "C" if that is the drive you have it installed on) and the game should run fine.

EDIT: Also, where did you download the game? I lost my CD years ago, and the abandonware site that I once downloaded it from has stopped hosting it.

I found the game while downloading some other stuff on DC, this guy had a zip file of both ja1 and ja:deadly games, so I thought I'd refresh my memory and play them agaiin. Anyway the DG zipfile extracts what seems to be either a copy of the cd or the actual content you get when install the game. The size is about 125mb so it sounds right. The zip-file itself was like 45 mb.

There is a CD-file, but the fix doesn't work. I already tried it earlier just changing the letter to my harddrive, to no effect. I still get the same error msg: "Error: Problem reading CD-ROM, please check". I'm not sure if this is because the fix doesn't work or because I don't actually have a CD-ROM on this computer, but if we assume the fix works the problem shouldn't be there. I'm not sure if I also have to unpack the game in the right directory too...

Was thinking of actually buying the game from ebay, but it feels rather expensive to order it from some guy in Australia or something (I'm in Europe), as the postal service might charge me with like 10$ for the shipping itself, while the game wouldn't cost more than like 5-7$ if you found it somewhere new.

ok here's the download link, I hope you all know how to deal with rapidshare and .rar-files Smile

http://rapidshare.de/files/29023894/Jagged_Alliance__Deadly_Games.rar.html

the game is about 127mb on disk so I'm assuming it is with speech. there are some big files in the "gus"-directory so I'm betting these would be speech files. thus I tihnk the game is complete. only problem is getting it to work. good luck.

well, I don't think it's a complete game to be honest with you... it would have to be at least 500-600MB with all those speech files.

well I saw that the smallest version was like really small so I thuoght this one would have some speech in it. I don't actually remember what kind of speech there was in this game, wasn't it only Gus briefing you on missions? I haven't got the game working so maybe if someone suceeds with that we'd know what's ripped here exactly Smile

Otherwise if I get hold of used copy (still looking and don't want to buy one for like 20$), I could try to make a .bin file out of it; it seems that strategy first after all is treating the game as abandonware.

Also I did e-mail strategy first about the policy with deadly games, since they basically do own the rights to every JA game now, no response yet. Either they don't have a working supoprt e-mail or they're just ignoring me. I'm taking this that deadly games is indeed somethign they don't care about.

not only do you have complete mission briefings from Gus on each mission, but don't forget all the lines from all of the AIM mercs in-game when they spot or kill an enemy, when their gun jams, when the enemies are all gone, or when you're taking too long... plus, there's an extra 5-6 mercs in the game. (Buzz, Malice, Colonel, etc.)

I don't think the individual merc files were ever a problem even in voice-rips versions, so I think the mercs usual talk is there. The bigger part should be Gus's briefings so if something is ripped it should be those, not the short suonds the merc's produce (those shoudl be real small .wav files).

Has anyone tried downloading and got the game working yet?

what kind of problems? cd-related?

I've played JA1 without dosbox, it actually ran quite well. Sure I had to use crappy music (midi) and someimtes the game would go ridicolously fast, but all in all when you got used to the crappy music it was totally playable. I don't see why deadly games, if you get past the cd problem, should be unplayable in XP even without dosbox. On the other hand I don't rememer if DG was a buggy game back in the day, was such a long time ago I actually played the game

I got this link from a buddy for an alterantive dl-site: http://oldgames.nu/?page=games%2Flist&s=jagged&pid=19&g=&p=&y=&l=

haven't tried it yet and not sure how you download it from there, plus that it seems to have everything ripped since the game is like 11mb there.

heh, good old crappy programming I would call that Smile

as soon as I get my laptop back with a cd-rom I might try burning the game and see if that might do the trick. not sure what to call the cd though. I doubt there's any copy protection on the cd.

Edit cd.rom file and put full path to location where files for game are located. I think it works only with 8 characters DOS file names.

As opposed to downloading it, try to find a copy of this:
