There is a tool for just that purpose.

Check out http://members.lycos.co.uk/dvornik/

The patches of interest are the IMP patch -for multiple IMP (Custom) mercs; and the patch to convert any version of the game to version 1.12.

I tried doing a regular patch of my gold pack version and found the IMP patch wouldn't work. I had to use Dvornik's version 1.12 patch.

This will let you create up to 6 custom mercs by answering the questions. I find it easier to enable the 90210 code and have multiple IMP mercs.

to do this, you will need an editor. I use "Ja2aio 1.2" as it helps with selecting faces, attributes and inventory. You can get it in the files section of the Lords of the Bytes website.

http://www.lords-of-the-bytes.com/

One thing to keep in mind. Jagged Alliance saves characters by voice. You are allowed up to six custom mercs because there are six custom merc voices.

If you select the same voice for two custom mercs it may crash your game eventually as both characters would use the same character slot.

The Ja2aio 1.2 editor has one big glitch. It won't save male custom merc voice #2. If you select that voice for a custom merc and save, it will save it as custom merc voice #1.

I had to use a hex editor (there are lots of freeware hex editors out there) to change the first byte of the IMP.dat file from "33" to "34". (that is hexadecimal for 51 and 52 respectively, the character slots used for custom male #1 and Custom male #2.

Good Luck.

This, like most of the original tools was built for the 1.03 (vanilla) Ja2 .exe. It also works with the 1.07 but in either case download the 'cracked' version of whatever .exe you want before installing this patch.

I'd recommend if you're sticking with the 1.03 to just download the All In One editor because this tool has a few other features you might find useful.

Enjoy.

EDIT

It seems like that link Cat Spam provided allows you to patch up to the 1.12 .exe so with this method you could get the multiple IMP and the .exe to run it in one swoop.

I love this website, about as much as I love this forum!

Whenever I feel like playing Jagged Alliance 2 and the numerous mods, this website always helps out. The various fixes are awesome, especially if you love melee combat.

I'm not sure what you mean?

If it is the IMP Editor there is no problem installing it.

But I only know how to make multiple IMPs work with the 1.13. I forgot how with earlier versions.

Maybe someone else remembers but another guy just asked yesterday and has not got an answer.

I cant use it with my version of the game... Installed it in the correct way but it keeps giving an error message when i launch the game. Disappointing that im not able to use the merc cheat :S

Btw im using the Gold version (JA2 1.12 + JA2UB 1.02)

Is it a known problem for that specific version ?

No it is actually a tool designed for the first (1.03) mod .exe and I can't say for sure that it works with any other version except for earlier versions of the 1.13.

Aggrevating I know, but this is one of the many things that has been chucked to supposedly make the game more user friendly. The principle designer of the 1.13 is apparently off to other things these days and no one has really been minding the store as far as miking sure new features were worth scrapping other things.

I might suggest making a seperate install then patching 'down' to the 1.03 to make your IMP. You can then extract the IMP.dat file from that install, load it into the 1.12 and see what happens.

Unless they disabled the 90210 code in the 1.12 that should work.

But it has ben a very long time since I did anything with any version other than 1.13 and I am definately not sure of any of this.

In the pre-NIV version of the 1.13 it was easy to use the IMP editor now it is like pulling teeth.

@LegacyOfApathy; I followed the link you posted and was alerted that that site has a large MALWARE infection.
