Tbird, judging by the error in the bugreport thread you posted, you did the same as Brujah a few post up here: running newest gamedir with outdated .exe. SVN does not bring along current exe, so do as Depri told:
DepressivesBrot
Get a new exe from my sig and reapply tje svn files. Starting the Vanilla exe tends to f'up some files.

Also running vanilla ja2.exe messes the whole insatallation. It is a good idea to delete it after installing the game just in case. DepressivesBrot can give you a shiny new exe as Sam Hotte said.

Yes.
1) Don't mix outdated stable releases with unstable data
2) Read the textfile that comes with the SVN download

Use tortoise's command 'show log' to see what current version the repo is at.
Or do you mean something else?

They are both correct. One counts the Data and one the Exe revisions. As a rule of thumb, latest with latest unless specified.

I walked throgh the steps Malboro Man described in his first post of this thread.

I typed in : https://ja2svn.dyndns.org/source/ja2/trunk/Documents to get some information about modding...

But SVN says the specified host is unknown...

how about reading the replies above your post, is that so hard?

with SVN, I am a bit confused here.

I have one SVN address from Gamedata as https://ja2svn.no-ip.org/source/ja2_v1.13_data/GameDir

I installed the JA2, and exported the files from that SVN to the JA2 folder. But, it does not work. I looked around that at least facilitytypes.xml is different since a feature of recruiting PMC personnel is added. The start screen also show other error messages regarding the settings at XML files. Besies, a new EXE file is required.

Later, I was told that the gamedate of the 2014 official release is here: https://ja2svn.no-ip.org/source/ja2_v1.13_data/branches/ja2_data_official_2014 . This one works prefect.

As both two SVNs are updated regularly, could anyone explain the difference between these two SVNs?

The development branch will have new/untested features. The release is meant to be stable, so the only changes you will see are fixes.

Syncing from SVN regularly fails when trying to download \Tools\ExShell\*.*
The cause is that my virus scanner detects an infected file in the download and quarantines the temp file before Tortoise can save it to disk.
I have noticed that \Tools\ExShell is no longer part of Depri's SCIs since at least release 7667. Maybe because of the same reason?

I can get around the problem by instructing Tortoise to unversion/ignore the directory, so it's not a big problem.

Nevertheless I would like to know if there is indeed a virus in ExShell, and if yes, if the SVN can be cleaned up.

I asked the same in the ExShell thread and the answer was that this alarm is to be expected for such tool.

Development GameDir:
https://ja2svn.mooo.com/source/ja2_v1.13_data/GameDir/

Development Code:
https://ja2svn.mooo.com/source/ja2/trunk/GameSource/ja2_v1.13

For a development exe you either compile your own from the source code or use one from Depri's SCIs.

Two years later...
After a day of trying things with the Dev branch I've given up on most mods working with it. Is there still a Stable SVN server I can download from that will work with Shady Job, Vietnam etc.? My old plain 1.13 saves don't even work for this latest dev build but then they are 8 years old now... Cheers lads.

Remembered where to get the stable builds from (ja2v113.pbworks.com/w/page/4218339/FrontPage) but not having the best of luck with them either. Oh well, it's some progress I guess.

where to dl latest working exe ? i have "small" problem - everytime i try to start a game, i got black screen with music playing, thats all.
w10 64 bit.
and ironicaly, good old ja 2 gold 1.12 is running flawlessly.

hmm, aftor some experimenting - runing game in wondovew mode - it writed i need 16 bit background to run it, and then decided to run game in fullscreen...and it worked, game showed normal menu and i was able to play game for some short time. after it it switched to desktop, and when alt tabed - i got "good" old black sceen again.

I can't even alt-tab (I'm on the desktop but I can still see the game), but I can at least carry on playing without issues if I tab back in. I think it's a wonder they've made the game work at all at different resolutions so we shouldn't be too disappointed in not being able to task switch out to read a wiki or whatever. Mind you, with the option to skip the intro too, it doesn't take too long to get back into a game.

Glad you got the game working; have fun. I've sorted out my problems and am playing a new 1.13 original game run from the start and enjoying it. Some mod features still elude me and it's hard to keep track with updates but I'm happy with what I have.

Since as as writed - i can play original ja2 gold without any problems. What i need/lack do properly play 1.13 ? Do anyone have similiar issues ?

The SVN repo is mirrored on GitHub, maybe you'll have better luck downloading it from there: https://github.com/aimnas/ja2-1.13-source-mirror
That is, if building from source is what you want to do.
If all you want is an up to date version of 1.13, you can get a recent build here: http://thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com/index.php?t=msg&th=20380&start=0&

Seven helped me find the Game Directory link - just found it here as well on the last page, but just a couple posts below https://ja2svn.no-ip.org/source/ja2_v1.13_data/GameDir which didn't work. Any chance we could add the correct links to the first page (since the thread is pinned) to increase discoverability?
