Hi everyone!

We, the VdM from the german JA2-Basis, have after four years of development just released our UB based mod "Back to Business"

Features:

- 144 maps
- a very different and complex new story that continues the saga of JA2 and UB
- lots of new NPCs, RPCs etc.
- lots of new weapons, items
- many new and unique quests
- new tiles
- and yes, a new monster! Smile
- long gameplay guaranteed!
- Size of download 60 MB

Please follow this link to see the news-page of the JA2-Basis:

http://ja.gamigo.de/index3.php Broken link, if you have an updated one, post here

Link for direct download is:

http://ja2mods.de/downscript/download.php?id=50 Broken link, if you have an updated one, post here

So far, "Back to Business" is available only in german. But the mod is based on the US V. 1.01 EXE so compatability is no problem.

Give it a try, even if you do not understand the german language very well!

Regards

Sinclair

just an idea for helping people, if you could make a site with all the pictures hosted, and us non-german speakers can just link up the item and ask what it is (i had some problem not nkowing items in night ops as its in russian)

edit: at the start i get a bag from waldo, i gather its a mission thing yes?

edit 2: the quest doug gives is?

edit3: missing miniboom.sti had to steal it from normal ja2

1. For mission details check the FILES in the laptop.

2. Doug: tells you about an arms dealer up north in a town called Grayvalon. Check map in the RIS report in FILES.

3. Miniboom.sti is not affected by the B2B mod. If it is missing, the UB-installation failed to put it in the TILESCACHE directory.

have fun!

Diego is an undertaker, he tells about the war situation in the town of Greifenstein. He says, that there is a lot of work for him waiting in the south. Diego does not trigger an quests.

"Betaeubungspfeil" is an arrow to stun enemies.

What about using an online translator like babelfish? Smile

You can not translate anything from an ingame environment with an online translator unless you manually write out the whole thing... not the laptop files, speach bubbles or anything, That is why it is so important to help us Engish speaking idiots with some kind of actual web page or dialog / mission briefing documents that we can read.

If you can take an image of the BtB main map and make each area that has quest info or important NPC dialog selectable that would then display the English dialog or information it would help alot. Also a full mission brief of the laptop files minus any pictures and a listing of items, weapons and attachments in the game along with how they can be used if they are NOT obvious.

Of all the excellent mods made outside the US not one I have seen has provided a way for us to fully enjoy the effort and work of the designers. Due to these limitations I have downloaded at least 4 very good looking mods only to toss them in the trash as being unable to truely play them. I cant stand not knowing what the story is all about and the quest info and all the things that make the game so good.

It may sound bad but us poor english speaking people really wont spend too much effort on something we cant read or understand easliy.

I love playing JA2 and its clones but I must agree with Headshot. Without an english translation I doubt I could be bothered. Just having the text in English would do. The voices I could live with.

Okay, I just had a quick word with Sinclair. There are a few specific files that need translating.
Firstly, most of the 'Files' data is located in 'files.zip' in the Campaign Data directory. These are mostly HTML docs that need translating.
I am currently working on those, I'll post the individual files when ready.

NPC-scripts, emails and itemdescs, are of course in the .edt format.

NPC speeches are not voiced, so its just the text itself that needs translating. Some of them give vital quest clues though, so care needs to be taken when working on them.

While I am currently hard at work trying to get the stuff translated, I just want to point out that I won't promise:
-a release date
-compete and final translation of the whole game. (I'm a bit of a sh!t in this aspect, with me often not having enough time/motivation to see things through. I'll do my best of course, but others are welcome to give the translation a shot too just in case I don't deliver. I know this is crap, but I'll do my best Smile Occasional kicks in the arse by other posters are more than welcome. Very Happy
-a perfectly accurate, mistake free job. Hey, I'm only human, so if there is something that does not sound right, give me a shout.

So do not celebrate, thank me, rely on me or read too much into this. I'll give it a go, that's all.

Ta!

Carmine is the aide de camp to Commander Richard Todd, nickname "Pegasus". Pegasus went on patrol to check the situation near the Traconian border. As he has not come back as planned, Carmine Farello asks the team to try to locate him. Quest given.

John talks of a low flying airplane and points out that there is a radarstation nearby (south) that might have more infos about the missing plane. Quest given.

ANFO is an explosive! It consists of fertilizer and ..... (find out yourself) Smile

The arms dealer near your starting location does not carry any guns anymore as everyone has been buying weapons. None left for you. He tells you that there is another one at another location though. He'carries 30-06 rounds en masse.

H10: The guy near the petrol station tells you that he saw a plane and that maybe the friendly folks at the radar station south of him might be able to give you more information on its flightpath. (It will be clarified soon) The other guy, guarded by the green soldier is the assitant to the rebels and tells you that his commander went on a mission with a bunch of crack troops and has not come back yet. Could you please find him? Thanks!
ANFO: Sorry, never come across it. Does it look like anything remotely recognizable? Any idea as to where you found it?

edit, fcuk, beaten Very Happy

Hi Lytin!

Just one remark: the arms dealer in Grayvalon does not sell 30-60 rounds. This type of ammo is only to be found in the maps (crates, drop items etc.)

Okay, here goes:
I have translated the ReadMe file and half of the 'Files' data on the laptop. (RIS Recon is partially done, and I have to touched the later stuff, I don't want to spoil the game for myself)

Now, I need to find somewhere to upload both files. Does anyone know a place that allows you do do this? Its a 6kb .txt file and a 730kb .zip file.

@ Randok

Perhaps you have installed the mod into a wrong directory?

If not, try this: Do you have a JA2 version other than Polish version? As I have mentioned JA2 B2B works with it's own EXE (US Vers.1.01). You might be in need of a copy of an US or German FONTS.SLF. You have to put it in the /DATA directory. Just an idea!; I am not sure, if it solves the problem.

@30.06 seller:
Sorry, I must have been mistaken. I thought it was the bloke up in Grayvalon, but Sinclair tells me that he does not stock 30.06. My bad.

@bra: rofl. No clue, squad tent?
@Merc Regenschirm: That is the M.E.R.C umbrella that is given to all their troops. It is part of the promotional gift war that AIM and MERC got themselves into, with each side trying to outbid each other with freebies. (Che-flask, Sam Garver knife, Flo-watch, MERC brolly). Oh, the umbrella also doubles as a weapon, so if you want to, you can wack the enemy with it...

Hello,
Randok - you need to install B2B in the same directory where is your JA2UB PL. After that everything works OK - I check it.

BTW. Zajrzyj na nasze forum internetowe http://jaggedalliance.pl/forum/ , ktore jest poswiecone JA (tam tez jest instrukcja poprawnej instalki na nasze UB). :ok:

Good, that there's a translation coming for this mod too! With Shady Job and this my interest might wander back on JA2. But it just makes me bitter that all the best mods are being made in some other language than English or Finnish, because those are the langs I know almost thoroughly. Sad

EDIT: Oh dear, wordfilter Very Happy . Replace the asterisc with a 'u' when copy&pasting the URL into your browser!!!

Tentative pre-release of two files. The official readme and files.zip

Both will probably still contain one or the other mistake. Sorry about that, just point it out and I'll update.

http://www.lytinwheedle.f*ckyouanddie.com/

Ignore the website, it does not have any content at all, its just a placeholder, filedump at the moment. Thanks to f*ckyouanddie.com for hosting.

Lastly, I mailed Sinclair the stuff, so if he produces a different version with corrections on his own servers, it will replace this current release asap. I don't have much bandwith, so my links will go down when my allowance has been reached.

To all those going 'FYAD... wait a minute, this rings a bell...!', Yes, I've got stairs in my house! PAK CHOOIE UNF! Very Happy

The translation of the rest will come in bite-sized bits and pieces throughout the month. A proper, full English release will come out when all work has been completed. Before that, individual files will get posted to give people a slight clue as to what is going on in the campaign. (The story is a great deal better than that of most other PC games Smile ).

Ok, here are the links for the Readme.txt and the FILES.ZIP, that contains the stuff for the external laptop. No need to open this archive file. It is used by the game "as it is". Just replace the corresponding file in the \data\campaigns\Back to Business directory.

http://www.vdm-maps.net/downloads/readme_B2B.txt Broken links, if you have a new one, please post here!

I'm German, so I have no trouble with this one. However, I don't speak a work of Russian and still had a great time with Shady Job. In fact the foreign language added an ambience. Those of you not willing to make the effort with a mod not in your own language have every right, but are denying yourself a treat.

drop bear generaly its ok to have it in a different langueage, however the problems ocure with sub-quests or little bits of info you might wanna par-take in. of course theres the usual get mines, get to maduna (or whatever the name) and kill the queen, bit i personaly like doing the subquests and thats when a translation helps.

It's a great mod, German lessons in highschool finally paid off *wink* However i noticed the damage system is kinda off-scale. Meaning extremely low damages occur sometimes when hitting an enemy. I shot a greenshirt in the head at point-blank range with a 5.56AP bullet and he took -2 damage. Then when it was his turn he shot his .45 SOCOM in my kevlarvest and i took -54 damage. Weird man...similar occasions happend during gameplay all the time.

Thanks for another great mode.
I'm wondering: are you going to issue a patch to cover all the problems you name in readme?
I've just defeated Elliot the Vampire (great fun!), and am stuck underground... Tried to use your hints, but just get "the other side of Windows" every time.
