@generaljoe

depends on which features you want to have from vengeance
I`m working on some sort of conversion, but that conversion will mainly include maps and weaponmod, the custom charcters, quests and storyline from vengeance might be dropped

But there will be new features added, like new tilesets and new sectors, and depending on the progress of the 1.13 mod itself, much more than that

ok...

I have a german version of the game. Is it better to install VENGEANCE over the german version?

I downloaded it with the u.s. version and got nothing...maybe i didn't direct the download to the right place.

Can someone give me an idea to what is the best way to download this mod? It sounds like a great mod!

Prosit!!

Well, I was the one who first figured out how to make the Vengeance Mod install onto an English version of the game - and I did it by applying some patches for the German Version in an effort to make my English version more German.

You should install Vengeance over the German version. I am sure it will work better that way. Especially you will have all mercs speaking in German and not just the new ones.

ja2 vengeance works best with german version of ja2. You can also download a patch that translates new npc`s speech subtitle to english if this is a more convinient way to figure out what these guys are saying

Hi all !
I am jag2 veteran but new to Bearpit forum. First of all I want to thank Scorpion for an great Vengeance mod - it rocks ! I got few questons related to this mod:
1. is possible to make Molotov coctail ?
2. in sector G13 I've encountered some kind of military guarding entrance to underground base, what is that base ?

hi BFG

glad to hear you like our mod

1. yes it is possible. In the release version it should be fairly easy by combining alcohol+gas = mol cocktail.

2. That is tricky with that entrance in g13. The entrance and the further levels (there are quite some sublevels) are guarded by fraction members (they work for the oil company in vengeance)

if these haven`t yet turned hostile on you, you can easily access and explore the entrance and all its sublevels. You moght find the bugs in sci-fi version too

if the oilcompany is hostile, you will have to fight the black/ blue guys that are in every level and THEY RESPAWN

my advice: if you wanna fight them, go to each sublevel only once. Take their drugs and sell them to franz hinkle, he pays quite a price for them

don`t switch sublevels too much as the respawns would really annoy you.

Well, I killed all guards at sector with Dick (at night). I've let him live for now and his guards respawned at 7:00 in the morning and arent hostile. I hope I can enter G13 without a fight but I dont care so much because my soldiers can get some practice by the way (when fighting).
Another question if you dont mind: are new helicopter bases available and how to activate it ?

P.S. Rebuilded Tixia looks impressive, I hope I can get thru this gate Smile

Tixa is actually not quite easy, you should consider taking some good sniper rifles with you (enemies can have g3sg1 or parker hale m82`s)

also, watch out there is a savegame corruption bug connected to the new tixa map!

be sure to have a savegame left nefore you kill the last guard.

when you conquer tixa, load another map (tactic screen) and save there to make avoid savegame corruption!

Ok, I'm aware about this bug. I am night ops freak and my whole squad is camoed and armed with silenced weapons (VAL 21 and Groza) My IMP merc is night ops expert at lvl 9 and wears UV-goggles (Wolf is lvl Cool. Even tanks are no challenge for me. I really enjoy silent weapons - good work !

lvl9 plus UV goggles will certainly make tixa no problem for your guys

however there is one camoed sniper with a silenced gun in a good position too, that one could prove a challenge... but he isn`t at level 9 so you might just get the turn

have fun! there is quite some loot in tixa too.

Tixia was pretty interesting but saving Dynamo is tricky (he was executed because of my lazyness).
But sniper alley in Balime was great ( elites with RPG's).Oil rig platform was weird because of 46 (!) enemies on the map. After killing 31 enemy soldiers I cannot find remaining 15. After long search I've found one red skirt and killed him - sector captured and so on. But suddenly 14 new enemies appeared among my spreaded mercs. I was surprised but finally managed to wipe 'em. Never saw such a situation. Oh , oil rig platform is great design too, scorp !

Curious:did you guys encounter those snipers equiped with a Groza that always reload after getting one shot at our mercs?
A special shot that also takes all the energy out of the unfortunate merc...like a dart gun, only with big damage too?The targeted and hit merc remains helpless,a sure victim!
It would be cool if we could get that "dum-dum ammo" too. Smile

@ Azazel - I've found some Groza AR's with one bulllet dropped by enemy. I was wondering why one bullet 'cause enemy didnt fired from this weapon. It looks like standard SP-6 ammo so maybe its a bug.

X-Ray Detector
Original post from scorpion (Aug.28.2005)

"there was a switch in slots. sorry, my bad. a merc who has high Mech stat and "electronics" skill should be able to combine izumrud with "display" (or vica versa, needs trying out) to create standard ja2 x-ray-sci-fi-enemy-detection-device-flashy-thingy"

Just tried to make this device and what I received:
1.fumblepack+chewing gum+X-ray tube=side-rail (!)
2.LameBoy display+copper wire=display(with wires)
3.side-rail+display=Izumrud Binocular
It looks and works as old X-ray detector (with batteries).
Maybe everyone (except me) knows that but well... just tried to post useful info.

@BFG

I am sure this is useful info. I wasn`t sure that it still works. Thank you.

@azazel

The dart gun`s ammo ignores armour values and has a certain chance to knock you unconscious. The default dart gun has damage 1 or 0 or so, but the Groza has 33 or something --> high damage value, plus one single bullet that completely ignores armour and has a certain chance to knoack you unconscious (I often camouflaged these snipers because their chance of hitting you unconscious is much higher if you don`t see them. It`s a bit like throwing knifes)

the sad thing is that i couldn`t mount any scopes on these Grozas so these snipers will miss pretty often

I've'd instaled the mod over a fresh 1.03 Ja2, and I get a CTD from Carola at the same point, and another one in the former Drassen, when Red Head or something like that wants to attack one of my mercs. But it happend only on the first game, i.e. only the first time I got to that sectors. After that, even if I reloaded the same save, it never happened again.

Hey, i havnt visisted this site for some time, so yesterday i visisted again for a new mod, and found this, which seems great.

I installed it, and it playable, but i think its pretty screwed up tbh Razz , im not that far into it, took the regular way with drassen -> sam -> alma. only merc where my imp, lynx and some other recruit (dont remember his name, and i didnt deliver the letter in the beginning, just found out now where the guy is Very Happy ).

anyways, in h13 theres supposed to be 2 guns in the closets? however in my case there were 2 rocks in the closets Wink with the name and discription of the guns. Not thinking to much about it, i just moved on.

however after securing alma i took my chopper to l15 just to check out wth it was before going to sleep, to my surprise there was no enemies, so i took trevor arround to gather some pretty decent items, to my surprise i found a queen-looking chick named daniella on my looting raid, she apparently just wanted to express her anger towards me (couldnt get her hostile), so i decided to kill her, just for fun, then to my surprise the game ended Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy a "great" ending scene + credits..

I havnt experienced anything else that has been messed up so far except these two thing tho.

I didnt really follow the install instructions Surprised i just copied the following things into an old 1.03 install i had on my drive, in the following order Very Happy .

-ja2allineone
-"installed" vengeance
-JA2_Beta_0.95_DE
-english language stuff

however, i still use my old ja2.exe, to load the game, which i found pretty wierd. none of the other .exe's worked, they just load up to blackscreen and exits desctop.

Anyone experienced anything similiar? guns turn up as rock, and how is L15 in your games?

Edit: Thanks for the mod btw.

Hi shrike

the carola crash is new to me, never heard that before. However ja2 vengeance is designed in a way that allows you move on without that quest carola gives you.

some characters that were added late to the game don`t have speech only subtitles like carola, natsuko, big red and others

you shouldn`t unload guns because of a beta editor bug the old ammo types are placed in maps.

@bfg and boomer

soem of my playtesters reported similar first time visual contact crashes with big red, i had a couple of savegames, probably related to something n the npc script. Same for carola, honestly, that choice from carola has no reason to exist at all anyway

@ulf

your using the wrong .exe file. ja2 vengeance has its own exe, playing with other exe files will screw up the mod thoroughly

maybe you can get the correct exe to work by following cat spam`s instructions on the first/ second page of this thread.

my install way was:
1.uninstalled old jag2 and deleted jag2 folder
2.fresh install classic jag2 (gold edition)
3.install venegeance mod
4.install english translation patch (optional)
Everything works OK.

lol. i got it to work now, i seems the reason i couldnt load the .exe before was because i forgot to put the german.slf into the data dir :headbanger: . theres the new weapon graphics, new town names and everything now.

It works fine now, but is there any reason not to just use my old save game? (it works i tried), i have only taken drassen, alma, 2 sams, tixa and items in L15? would i miss out on anything special? fx. howabout bubba in tixa, was he supposed to be killed?

cool it worked out for you

yes, you can Kill Bubba, but you don`t really need to. If he doesn`t turn hostile, you can leave him alive. Watch out for that nasty savegame corruption bug in tixa

oh yes, bubba has an item. If you kill him, he`ll drop it and you can bring that to natsuko who will give you a video camera in exchange for it. If you have no need for that camera, or already have one, you can leave him alive

your choice

Wow, I'm seriously out of anti-tank weaponry. Grenades are out, and I'm really in a pickle in how do I fight against them. Any chance where I can find a cache of anti-tank weaponry in the game? I've already conquered the old Drassden, Alma, and Chitzena but Ive recently run into two (or possibly more)tanks on my way to Grumm.

OT: The Renegade Republic mod in Scorpion's signature shows a merc "X" inside a tank... Does that mean that mercs can now use some tanks in the game?

hi lord leperman

usually, in the levels where you find tanks, there are usually 40mm grenades, LAWs, explosives and other items to be found. many tanks can be taken out from rooftops or so using grenades

maybe you can get hold of RPG-7 launchers, they also work against tanks, plus the 40mm vog-25 and vog-25 p grenades in particuliar had very good results in my games against tanks

these tanks between grumm and chitzena or cambria and grumm (old town names) are supposed to get severly damaged by the rebels in these sectors. after these tanks, there will be a while before you run into the next tank. There are some in the important street sectors plus one or so in alma

the merc in the tank... i must be honest i haven`t tested that feature thoroughly, but mercs will be able to climb up on tanks, climb down into the tank and use it as cover. You can`t use it to travel sectors, but you can fire at enemies from inside the apc, you will be protetced from gun fire but not from LAW or grenades

maybe i can simulate the use of tank fire, but it is not very promising gameplay wise, because you couldn`t aim and you`d only have 1 round per trigger or a bit of a chaos alternatively...

I'm having trouble with the Sci-fi version. I'm on the end of the quest where you're supposed to encounter the queen bug. In my game she's replaced with a tent/bunker picture and everytime I kill her the game crashes and reports a "Missing character file 71" or something.

Is there anyway to solve this?

EDIT: it seems that Joey does not have a speech file for the death of the queen bug that's causing my game to crash. The death animation works perfectly well if the regular AIM mercs kill it.

Works perfectly fine on my game even if you load an old savegame with it. It also includes valuable info like the ability of the Special ops vest being able to store first aid kits and wire cutters as attachments and probably others that I have missed. Some descriptions are quite funny IMO, I laughed hard after reading the description for the bateries Very Happy Edit: Well apparently, I didn't understand the joke in the regular JA2 version.

Hi all, fantastic site with heaps of support and mods, patches you name it, its here for all of us avid JA2 fans. I have played the game since it was first released. Vengence is the mod that i love the most. Thats not taking anything away from UC. It's plain to see how much work and effort went into that, great stuff. At the moment the only problem for me is that in regards to what can be made, ie rod & spring etc, I dont know all of what can be made. This would be of great help to me and very much appreciated to the persons who help me out here. The only other thing is that i cant stand the fact that the barrel lenghtening bit does wear down and fall off. I think it should be a permanate fixture that does not fall off or need repairing. I know that there are editors but i cannot find one that works or do not know how to do so. Please help, aside from this i absolutely love this mod, not knowing german is a tad hard but who the hell cares? A walkthrough would be cool too Big thumbs up to all those out there with the skills to do this kind of work and release it for the rest of us to enjoy. Gotta love JA2.

Yes, it certainly helps but i have found that not all translations have worked for me possibly. I really dont care its such a great mod. I love the militia actively attacking the enemy in certain sectors. That being said i think the tanks are a little too easy to destroy but i am having loads of fun with this mod.

The RIS Aimpoint. I want to be able to make it so that it does not ever need repairing or fall off. This would be really cool.

burst bug patch should work. Making the RIS aimpoint a permanent attachement requieres good hacking or coding so it is kind of hard, but it *should* be possible

Finally got vengeance mod working (had to find and buy a copy of JA2 Gold to run on xp). Now I am wondering if I installed correctly, because I cannot find the "survivor" (presumably Manuel) in B9 or any of the surrounding sectors between Drassen and San Mona. I don't think he's off the screen edge because I have my mercs walk around the edge of every map sector. Could someone please tell me if I neglected to install something?

I guess you started a new game?

The survivor (not Manuel) Smile is hiding. If you search all rooms (including restrooms and small spaces)in B9 you should find him. Otherwise you probably didn`t start a new game or there might be some other issue.

I did start a new game (however the english items description file works perfectly on saved games). I've looked in the small spaces and restrooms (which I did the first time) and found nothing. I started another game just to be sure and still haven't found anyone.

My install: Fresh install of JA2 Gold, 1.12 patch, vegeance. It runs fine with no bugs or crashes, large font problems, etc. Have I failed to do anything?

okay i`m sorry. This is a bit weird. if you want you can send me the savegame. The i can have a look at it. (the_scorpion@swissmail.net)

however, you can easily continue without the survivor, he is not quest relevant or anything

i guess i still have an install of a functional ja2 vengeance mod Wink

Wait a moment:Ruzhyo how did you get it to work without the German.slf placed in the Data folder?
When you start the game do you get a different start menu,y'know, with new faces and colours and an oil rig on the background, version 1.02,etc?

The only way I managed not to find that Joey figure in B9 was to install Vengeance over...Wildfire 5.0,also starting with a quicksave taken from SavedGamez to Spielstand...,to get the WF. number of enemies on expert.

Yeah, works, you find over 20 enemies in every Drassen sector, sadly this hybrid install doesn't allow those permanent attachement combinations...

I did get the blue background with oil rig and the map changes. I found looking at the JA2 folder that the 1.13 folders had survived the uninstall from the last time. I don't know if that affected anything or not. I deleted them, uninstalled and then reinstalled, then patch, then vengeance, then english patch, item descriptions file. Now when I try and run the game at all it crashes to desktop...weird.
