As it seems everyone is busy with the main 1.13, I though I should take a shot at playing procurement bureaucrat for Deidranna. So far the following draft EnemyGunChoices have been done up:

- Western (mix of the usual western suppliers)
- Easterm (AK's and a lot of them)
- Hecker & Koch (nice mix)
- Fabrique Nationale (not much in SMG selection...)
- SIG (with the related FAMAE SAF family filling in the SMG's)
- Austria (Glocks and Steyr's)
- Exotic - Hollywood - Hi-Tech (well a few of you might have a good laugh at this one)

Now these lists may include a few weapons from out of "zone" but is heavily biased towards a certain scheme. For instance the Western list has a few AK's thrown in, but for every one AK-47, there are about a dozen AR-15 based weapons. Actually the Western list is practically the Colt list in between progressions 4-7 inclusive.

I know this is going to be controversial but for story line purposes, the Rocket Rifles have been included as issue at level 10. I would apologize, but its a simple enough matter to edit the finished files if this troubles you.

FN has the superb P90. With access to the P90 you don't really need any other SMGs. Wink

I believe the original Summer 1.13 release would best fit that description Majek.

"Exotic - Hollywood - Hi-Tech" is biased towards overpowered gear (with little thought made to balance) This is where you will find every Desert Eagle in standard deployment, alongside prototypes and sci-fi. It takes Didreanna's line "...don't I provide the best in weapons..." to ludicrious levels. And I thought it would be worth a few laughs...

These are draft changes to gameplay, in need of volunteers to test. At present just send me an email (the forum email button should make it through).

Thanks for the offer to test the Eastern xml Kmieciu4eveR. It has been sent.

Eventually I'll have to figure out a way to distribute these things (the whole lot zipped is only 15 kb).

Good point, even figured out how to do it without breaking anything (that I know of).

Sorry, I forgot to respond to Shado about the P90. Yeah and that's the problem, I've got it covering SMG's and the low end carbine range for the FN list. With the exception of the H&K list, I'm expecting some rather disjointed jumps from pistol, to SMG to long range Battle Rifles and AR's in the manufacturer list (reason I've put off the Colt list).

I'm not trying to ruin all this good work by saying this, but shouldn't we have it like this:

One set of weapons for Deidrannas regular army: Eastern, Eastern Europe, Middle Eastern weaponry.

One set of weapons for Deidrannas elite guard:
Same as above but with some very rare high-tech weapons thrown in.

One set of weapons for Bobby Rays:
Western, Western Europe, some Middle Eastern manufactured in the west. One or two rare high-tech weapons later on from same locations.

One set of weapons for milita:
Same as Deidrannas regular army as they use captured weapons, but also old WW2 weaponry and such.

One set of weapons for special NPCs and hidden stashes:
Hollywood stuff, but nothing sci-fi in realistic mode.

One set of weapons for mercs on AIM and MERC corresponding to their personality and home country.

This will include all weapons (not in realistic mode of course) for the player, but spread them out in a more realistic and interesting way.

I'll let the coders field that one Dedas, its more of a request thing than something we can edit at present. (Though Elites seem to have higher level gear than regulars encountered in the same battle.)

As far as arms and national origin, the current regime in Venezuela notwithstanding, my view is that at present most nations and individuals have an opportunity to shop the world for what is perceived to be the "best" (capability + cost + bribes in some cases).

And then there is Ira's comments about who exactly supplied Alruco under Didreanna...

Ok Wil, thanks for your answer. If I understand you correctly we need these XML files to get somewhere close to what I was referring to in above post (and other before me suggested).

Replace 307 and 310 -- should be the last two lines, 22 and 23, under uiIndex 17 -- with -1's and reduce ubChoices of uiIndex 17 by 2 (to 21).

As for the actual topic of the thread -- is there a consensus on where Arulco is located? If it is in Central or northern South America, as the names, speech and profiles of local NPCs and the geology would lead you to believe, then creating believable, logical EnemyGunChoices.xml lists should not be too hard. At least, I don't think my lists are too bad -- obviously, or I wouldn't use them. Razz

I'd just go with giving most of the troops eastern bloc weapons, because Deidranna =/= NATO.

Maybe the elites are cool enough to carry NATO weapons.

Sorry, this is one of those projects which kind of fell to the wayside. I did however get the FN one done, and it survived the seasonal hard drive wipe by hiding among some of the graphics I was working on at the time for 1.13 (the infamous MS Paint cut and paste shotgun shells). Just use the forum email icon and I'll send you the lot (from a gmail account where they will be able to go into storage in relative safety).

wil473: I would also be very interested in taking a look at your xml-files. I've also been working in creating western style enemygunchoices.xml and also editing the enemyitemchoices.xml to make the items the enemy have to make a more army like feeling.

I must say that I love the possibility this mod offers.

I am still playing standard JA2 but I look forward to you boys standardizing weapons for Alruco.

What you have sounds pretty good. Queen's regulars armed with good old cheap Eastern Block hardware which unlike in the game should never break. Also has it been fixed that every soldier has a weapon on his body when they dies?

The Hicks and Kingpin's people? I think the Hicks should have only basic old American stuff like WWII gear.


Can we put an end to arriving with only a pistol! lol I live in the United States and my home state has very strict (unfair) gun laws and I could still leave for Alruco better prepared if I didn't go commercial.

Read your post and I liked it. Perhaps you do like they did in Uncommon Valor you arrive and there is a warehouse of gear waiting for you...(M-16's,grenades,shotguns)all good basic stuff or the rebels have a stock of gear. Maybe it needs to be repaired, but you need rifles! That or someone like Tony is nearby and willing to sell you whole caches of weapons with a bulk price...Premium, Standard, and bargain basement. Have more money and less mercs more you can by right off. Perhaps put him in the bar in Drassen.


There are two divisions of troops in Alruco...now that means there are could be 8,000 to 10,000 troops for each division. Wow that would be a lot of AK-47's and M16's...

Never mind the San Mona crew...and the Hicks.

Well, I haven't played with the map editor yet and made a crate full of goodies like some others have Smile But I'm finding out that (thanks to brilliant coders) you can make the game whatever you want it to be, if you're willing to invest some time to learn how to do it. The only thing that could be better is if some of these kinds of options were incorporated directly into the in-game setup screen.

I get the feeling that some people quite enjoy the early-game pistol and shotgun duelling, and that's fine, if it works for them. It's hard to argue for realism-wise, but games are about having fun. (Myself, I'd love to see someone make a JA2 Wild West frontier mod, Starring Tex Colburn, of course Smile). But in Arulco, I'm going to touch-down with a weapon I can feel good about, and just deduct funds from my initial bankroll to pay for it.

The pistol stuff is fine...but just not pratical is all. I make it through pretty well, but when you have a good rifle you can wreck and enemy unit. Maybe because I am tired of playing regular JA2 and fighting it out with a bunch of guys who have shotguns and rifles and you finally get close and make the kill and you get nothing...fight six guys your lucky to get any weapons sometime.


Enemy troops whould have a standard package. Something each man always has...she there will be extras like different pistols and knives and things like scopes, but a real military even a bad one has some uniformity. Certain units have certain weapons maybe even unit symbols.

Someone argued against Deidranna's troops being equipped with western weapons, but in the cutscenes you see M16/M203s, FN-MAGs, M48 Pattons, and F-4 Phantoms - pretty much 60's western equipment.

Arulco is supposed to be a South American dictatorship, but not a communist one, so It's hard to imagine Soviets or Cubans having supplied AK:s to a monarchy. I could imagine however The USA selling weapons to Arulco (Remember what Ira said) back in the 60's and 70's, back when Arulco was a fairly stable and peaceful monarchy, to keep communist guerrillas at bay.

So I believe an M16A1 as a standard issue rifle would make the most sense. FN-FAL also seems to be quite popular in South American armies.

This question have been discussed since the start of the forum, it have been said before and it will be said again:

We don't know where Arulco is, its political ties or much of it's history.
Deidranna is of Romanian descent, which would suggest Eastern bloc involvement. Why would a south American country have a snow rich neighbor? Is it even on the planet Earth?

So we have no real proof as to whether Arulco is in south America, Asia or any other place.

We don't need any proof where it is set. Simply put it can be set everywhere we want depending on our needs.

well, it's blatantly obvious that arulco is supposed to be southern america.

parts of politics and history are given by the RIS and other elements.

snow rich neighbour, you mean UB? there, a loadscreen indicates that it's a snowy mountain where they crash. Snowy mountains aren't uncommon in southern america.


for the standard campaign, i agree with hairysteed to a certain extend, but then also the real workd equipment of souther american armies are often pretty mixed and variying too, so basicly for the default campaign, there's no big deal about having a lot of different guns around.

Sir-tek also put all the AK's into the tons of guns setting so this is something that backs this theory as well.

Yes, most things point to a south American country. I also believe it is a south American country but it really doesn't matter, my point is that almost none of the scenarios we can make up is out of place and that is a blessing.

As I stated in another thread anything goes in the form of weaponry. Standard weaponry could even be prototype weapons such as the G11 as we know Arulco have the access to some very advanced facilities for research and production of more advanced weapons. Both western and eastern weapons could be used but we can never say that either of them is more right than the other.

Yea i totally agree! Arulco even if it could be or not in south america, has american material in the video. I have difficulty to see it being communist, so no ussr support. Moreover american 's been arming lots of country for war. In each war that occured in the middle east in the 20 century we could see old american material (m16 M60 tank and f16) in one of the sides, america not being direcly involved. America always gave help financially or military to non communist country to slow down the staline project of intalling communism all over europe, so why not?

Thought of the moment... should there be 6x35mm drops by the Arulco military? (That is, of ammo and/or the KAC PDW and Magpul PDR weapons.)
