My IMP merc with leadership in the 90's can't do it. Fox (who Tex apparently likes) can't do it. I even hacked a sector and gave myself the "wild wild east video". That seemed to work....but it didn't.

I have read that others have hired Tex. Was that using Jona's patch? I'm just using the standard SOG'69 campaign with "official" patch. If you hired Tex in this "standard" version of SOG '69, did you do anything special?

I don't think anything about Tex has been changed. Betty sells the video and as soon as you have it you can talk to Tex and he'll join in.

OK, thanks for the reply....

However, Betty did *not* have the video for sale (which is why I changed a sector to get it). What happens is...

a) I give him the video
b) he gets all nostalgic and says he will join for free
c) I press the recruit button
d) he says something about me "not appreciating his value".

It's as if I were playing JA2 and had poor morale or something, but morale is good....I won every battle, no casualties (well...no deaths at least), no retreats and no dead civies.

Oh yeah, Trang refuses to give me a mission, although he gave it to me the last time I played. Related? Or is it because I finished it in my last game and the flag hasn't been reset?

This mod (Vietnam SOG) is full of bugs and thats the reason I quited playing it, god knows I have tried! Cheers to becoming X but somethings awfully buggy there. And I have hired Tex I think you should talk to him "friendly" and give him the tape.

Thats really weird. I never heard of the problem you are having before  Since you said you had no problem recuiting him the first time, then you know which video to give him. I never played SOG or any other Mod that Betty is in that she didn't have the video. I'm playing Firepower and I just recuited Tex!

No, I have NOT recruited Tex in SOG before. I've recruited him in normal JA2:UB so I know how to do it.

This is my second run through the game. The first time, he refused and now he refuses as well. Maybe there is some flag that is set? I'll try archiving my savegames and uninstalling/reinstalling JA2:UB and SOG. Hopefully that will help.

I just had a thought....maybe it's because my mercs are too high? They are all lvl 7,8 and 10 (my IMP). Maybe there is a flag in the game that keeps him from joining if you are too strong...

Sounds like you've imported an old party? That's going to overwrite the SOG characters and may well cause this 'funny' bug. Never import old saves when the campaign has custom characters. It's not necessary to use this semi-cheat anyway, the campaign isn't _that_ hard and you do get an experienced pointman for free.

Yeah, I imported my end game team from JA2. Well, if you think that this might be the cause (seems likely), then I'll give up trying to recruit him until the next run through.

Thanks anyway.

I have recruited Tex many times on SOG69, no problems.

SOG69 is not meant to be played with "import" characters, I think so...

I agree with JAT. I think you need to start with a fresh team in order to recruit Tex.

However, keep in mind that the Tex that you'll end up with in SOG 69 is more like the Tex Colburn in Deadly Games than the Tex Colburn in Unfinished Business (in SOG, Tex has lower marksmanship, is weak physically, and is at experience level 1). It is not worth starting the game again just to get Tex (though he still offers to work for free). Restart only if you're curious or if you're a Tex fan ("I hear rustling sounds, could be... uh... rustlers!")

[PS: I used Sarge to train Tex (it took a long time to get most of his stats up... strength and marksmanship), and after that Tex worked quite well (once marksmanship is up to 77, or higher, if you have someone else like Scope, Lynx or Sidney train Tex after Sarge is done) in SOG '69, because of his ambidexterity and the close-range nature of the mod. After training, and equipped with two silenced Scorpions (not on auto-fire, of course), he has hit a surprising number of targets that are out-of-range (aim for the torso if they are out-of-range). And I stopped training at marksmanship of 77.]

Addendum:

I went back to Tay Ninh City to sell some stuff and now Betty isn't there! Hopefully she'll show up if I try later.
