Your tactics for reaching Calisto and taking over the following sectors: B13, C13, D13, B14, B15, E13, C13 Subway and D15 SAM Site.

You can also add tips for road battles between Atremo and Calisto.

My first attempt to get to Calisto via the train landed me at Port Kip. I got on what I thought was the first platform, the train on the A9 sector side, but apparently was wrong.

I cleared port Kips subway area, then got my butt kicked, so back to Artemo. Now, take the subway or walk to Calisto?

The trick to the trains is to look closely at the floor. The track number is written in dark gray on a light gray floor. I took the train to Port Kip by mistake and got my ass handed to me.

FYI: If I leave the Calisto subway via the west exit the level above always becomes hostile (even when it's fully stocked with militia) but there are no actual enemies. entering the sector from any other point does not trigger this bug.

Due to the more enclosed nature of the Calisto SAM site, I found it much easier than the old Drassen SAM site.
It does have more enemies, so make sure you have enough men to kill them all, or they can overwhelm you.

Taking the Calisto SAM site at night is a good idea. The bad one is heading towards the part of the site with the least lighting (eg. the main gate) The moment you off an enemy that whole section will light up like a christmas tree and you will lose your squad (well, I did). Two rooftop snipers with SVDs will ruin your entire day (night).

Night operation, expert level.
Attack from subway, make sure to use the right exit to reach C14(another exit will lead mercs to C13, it is better guarded/patroled). Use silenced weapons and throw-knife first(at least before get on roof).

Move from C14 to B14, get on roof first then start to shoot.
There are two guards at southeastern gate, they may have good weapons. In my game, one silenced HK MP-5 and a CZ700M1 bolt-action snipper-system.
You can tell they are special weapons when they are fired. They will not be dropped, so have to be stolen. To steal both, need four mercs. All approach the western guard hut through the blind-area of the guard hut(the western corner). Send one merc on top of the hut, two at northwestern side of the hut, one at south-western of the house. Let the merc at south-western side shoot the guard in the western guard hut, then let the merc on the hut to shoot the guard in the other guard hut, so that they will not intercept mercs. Let other two mercs run into the western guard hut, neutralize the guard.
MAKE SURE CLOSE THE DOOR. So the guard in another guard hut can not shoot mercs in enemy's turn. After finishing the first guard, let the merc on roof to shoot the second guard again, then let the two mercs in western guard hut to finish him/her.

Move from B14 to B13, the southeastern corner is a good place to start. The stone fence is good for cover, and the parking lot is lit. Move one merc with silenced weapon forward, kill as many enemy as possible then withdraw to southeastern corner, let other mercs to kill anyone followed. Then move forward and get on roof...
Talk to all NPC to get as much information as possible.

Move from B13 to C13. Get on roof, shoot any enemy visible, especially in the big building cross the street. Then move mercs south via western boarder and get on roof again.
There is one bad guy in police station receiption area. Before get in there, save the game first. To kill this guy without being intercepted, let one merc make noise at southwestern side, move another merc in through the south-wester door and move(prone) to the northwestern side, then start to shoot. Do not try to open north-western or south-eastern doors, merc will be intercepted.
***Spoiler, do not miss free Tex, talk to other NPC too ****

Move from C13 to D13. Start at northeastern corner. Move south, kill any enemy in the way with silenced weapon. Get on roof, shoot visible enemy. Move south then west near the sector boarder. Get on roof at south western part then shoot. Then get on the roof of central building and move around to kill enemy at north-western side...
Make sure to talk to NPC to get income.
In D13, there is an exit to basement.
For the basement sector, either get a merc with good lockpicking skill or bring a lot of shapped charges. Use silenced weapons to kill all enemey not behind locked doors first, move slowly. Then unlock and clear rooms one by one. The bad news is that there are a lot of locked doors, the good news is that enemy will not come out through the locked doors.

Move from D13 to E13. Get on roof, shoot. Move to southeastern junkyard building, then move to police station...

Above is the way I used to clear Calisto. It is not the best way or right way and may not work for others, because we all have our own ways to play and win this game.

Silenced weapons?? You guys sure have found better gear than I have.
I took all of Atremo and moved on foot to Calisto, fought through one zone but found only pistols, no suppressors.
No 5.56 ammo for the colt Rude has, got one machine pistol.
I'm barely keeping supplied with ammo as it is.
In fact, ammo is so scarce I'm having to wound guys and let them bleed to death so as not to run out. Sad

Now I get to the airport and not only is the bad faction shooting at me, the civilians are too.
Do they only do this if you come in at night?

Found a suppressor at A10, lying on a bench in the police barracks. Of course, this was after I got rid of the corrupt b**tards...

If you want some good kit with which to take Calisto, and have a few stun grenades handy, move on over to A12 from A11 at night. There's a river that bisects the map, and a bunch of crates by the river. There should also be a couple of gunrunners by the crates. The crates themselves, contain an ALICE backpack and some gas, no big deal at this point. But the gunrunners...

Under cover of darkness, sneak your team as close to them as dare, and try to catch two well away from the third. Use your slower team members to toss stun grenades just past them (so that the blast knocks them towards you and hopefully a few tiles away from their third buddy). Then pair off your remaining team and run towards them. You should have enough AP left to get 1-2 hand-to-hand hits on them. Then rob them! (Select a merc with full AP, hit CTRL, and hover the mouse over the stunned gunrunner, and click. You may have to try a few times to get it right, and I find stronger mercs (Yeah Rosebud!!!) work better than weaker ones.)

One's carrying a CAR-15 and the other two have MP-5s. And this early in the game, the MP-5 is a great gun, especially for a NO merc! It fires quickly, has a large burst, low burst penalty, can take a suppressor, and there's tons of 9mm ammo lying around everywhere!

Cheers,
Vurt

I find it easiest to go to callisto from the top of the map, avoiding the nasty concentration of enemies on the road

with the M-4 and CAR-15, I outrange most opponents, so go for daylight assaults where I can use range to take down the enemy first (who seem to be able to hit crouched mercs across the screen with makarovs even when they are critical!)

also, use up your .223 ammo before you convert the CAR to an M-4, or you'll have two 5.56mm guns, and not enough ammo for the first day or two (one of the things I'd do differently, in fact)

Taking the casino did the trick...
got a Bizon with lots of ammo, an HK G3 and a Vepr there.
Still no suppressors though, makes NO a real bitch. Took the Calisto airport and got some night goggles which will help though.

Those black shirt bastids see me better than I see them usually. Tried 4 or 5 times, but got expert stealth instead of NO + stealth each time. I finally said the hell with it.

However I'm happy to say my IMP is LVL 5 after only 4 days. :devilaugh:

what i did.a stupid thing
When the milita cleared the A9 sector, picked my gear up and went straight to the Subway. I was a little lucky beacuse i could shot a gna meber before their leader apperaed ann so it was my turn first- which is good if you don't want to get hurt. After killing them all i went straight to Calisto via subway. When i got there i died, but i reloade and is hot the femela civilian standing near the train before, that chinesse guy (Slicer or who he is) talked to me. Again it was my turn first and i killed slicer and after that i fought the gang but when the swarmed o around me i just took the train back to Atremo and then immmideately returned back to Calisto. SAince iw was still early in day 1 the remaining gang members weren't hostile. Picked up the Ak-47 and then i free 2 CAlisto urban sector and then went back to atremo to see what can be found there.
After that i did also rob the casino, freed Atremo and CAlisto, visited the gunnrunnes east of Calisto and and believe i also occupied the SAm site.

Steal the CZ 700M1 sniper from the guards in B14 as Adam-Sun explains (personally i've done the job with 2 stun grenades + 1 tear gas cause my IMP is auto expert and i do day time).
I've given the sniper to Raven with HP ammo, and she does headshots like 99% of the time causing like 150+ damage to most and like 80+ (enough to kill them) to strong enemys who I presume have helmets.
Now i only do day time & prefer open field. With this gun bipod attached + AKM with scope, laser and bipod to my IMP auto expert I have no more problems.

I also found a drgunov at the SAM site. I've stolen it of course. It has lower damage and range than the CZ but it says it's quick to fire comared to the CZ that it's slow. How quick it realy is i have no ideea, never had the chance to fire it.
A little bug here: When i took the Dragunov it had a scope atached(PSO1 or smth, can't remeber the initials), but it doesn's say it can hold a scope atachement, wich is rather obvious since it is a siniper rifle it comes already with its scope.
I didn't get the scope off couse I thought to take advantage of this buf for now. I hope the scope bonus to acuracy is present in this case. I can't figure out a reason they should have put a condition to negate the bonus from a scope on a sniper rifle since u can't put it there in the first place.
Another bug: When i took of the ammo from the rifle i got a 5,56 box, the ammo for SAW i presume, and the Dragunov fires 7,62x54 if I can remeber well (never got a thing for numbers). that's why i never got to test the Dragunov.
Hope I find the ammo for both the Drag and the CSKV or KSCV or smth like that.. damn my memory fails me so soon, can't even imagine what it will be when i'm 60 or so.

@Shanga, could you create FAQs like this one on other cities, like Port Kip, troy, Galileo...
It would be nice to create a FAQ on whole game strategy too.

time is precious...

making a whole UC FAQ is taking about a few months to do it...

or just some several days if you lock yourself up in your room with plenty of food and coffee.

there will be a full guide of UC ...only the question is ... when? Wink

well.. tell some of your "cheating" tactics to us.. im quite curious about it actually..

mostly i was switching between sectors so i always had the first turn to shoot some.. after that i left the sector.. and than come back to have the first turn again.. and like that i was eliminating the enemy forces

I never took the roads to Calisto. I always go subway, the only trick is to shoot those morons first before they get a chance to talk to you, and then you'll have the advantage Wink by attacking first.

My tactic:
1. Shoot the guy before he gets chance to talk to you.
2. Stay where you are with all your mercs in a TIGHT formation
3. Never move around when its in Combat Mode, its just a waste of precious AP, and you need that AP to interrupt them when they start coming at you Smile

The police in Calisto are pretty useless as well, the only ones that are dangerous are the ones with shotguns, but after you get a nice set of armour, their shots can only take away your energy.

When i started off UC, i unloaded every gun and collected every ammo i found, you never know when you might find a gun that uses that ammo Wink

- By the way a good place to get guns is probably at the SAM SITE east of Calisto but then you do need someone that can pick locks to open those lockers and boxes (You don't need to kill everyone their, i sent 2 mercs and had them sneak in at night with silenced pistols, killed off 3 or 4 soldiers, stole some goodies like a camo kit, some canteens, etc. be sure to avoid those streetlights and any other lightened area)

B14 - there have been some comments in other threads about how difficult this sector was. I must have lucked into a good setup.

Play it noisy night ops, a 6 man squad is plenty. Come in from the west in the woods a little north of the door with the 2 big AC units. Sneek south and towards the door setting up in a line about 16 squares from the building facing the door. (your line should be parallel to the building centered on the door) Don't give away your position till you're set up. Once you're ready, throw a lightstick right in front of the door and another north toward the corner of the building. Now its a turkey shoot. There will be 3 or 4 come around the corner of the building from the north, 1 or 2 from the other corner, and a big pile of bodies around the door. Bring lots of ammo and 2 or 3 grenades.

After youve killed bout 25 it will quiet down, send half the squad onto the roof and the other half north around the building to hunt straglers. That just leaves the 2 in the guard houses at the entrance. I've never been able to steal so I crawl a stealthy merc along the fence right up to the shed then pop up and burst them.

fun stuff

I was a moron, I thought I had to go to Callisto IMMEDIATLY after I beat the Militia battle. I went down the subway, did that stuff, and then wondered Why The F*** the subway was so impossible. I killed a few, but always ended up completely wiped out, there were just so many, at the time i had like 3 guns. I wound up completely out of ammo, fast. So, i guess my tip would be not to be a moron... Although the AK was nice Smile

I had gone to Port Kip overland first and fought through to Tony. By the time I got there I was running low on money and ammo. Sold off a bunch of the pistols and was able to extend contracts for a day.

Decided to head back to Artemo and see if I could recruit Rosebud and pick up that Commando everyone had talked about. Got those and brought in Razor, Haywire, Ayana, and Gasket. Was very surprised with Razor and Ayana's markmanship. Marched over land toward Calisto. Picked up some items at a farm and got some from the gunrunners. Then struck the Airport from the north at night.

Rushed Razor and Ayana up onto the roof immediately. There's at least 20 enemy running around. Got interrupts and took out many with headshots. Pop up, blast one or two and then lay back down, otherwise they will chew you up.

There is one elite who camped out in the terminal by a corner window. I think his objective is just to make you waste ammo because neither Razor or Ayana with 90 mrk could hit him. Watch out for one other bad guy lurking in the walkway just outside the terminal.

If you came in over the roof you can own the airport terminal and move around on it across most of the map. Enter the map up at the upper right next to the covered area. It will look like you can place your mercs right on the roof, but they will be standing next to the corner and some may be exposed.

I didnot read the spoiler about the not converting to the M4 before shooting up the .223 ammo.

All in all I think I am enjoying UC more each day I play despite the mistakes. But that's what is making it so much fun.

c13 calisto

Came in from the north at night. Immediately spotted a large building with accessible roof. Got one full squad onto that roof and in position before spotting enemy in a building across the street. I think the building I was on is the roof of a bar. Anyway spent a great deal of time getting interrupts on the enemies appearing in the building across the street and picking them off. It looks to be the backside of the large Police HQ.

I had mercs on the ground on each corner of my building to catch anyone attempting to exit the sides of the Police building. One lone enemy is crouched in front of the bar and had to sneak a merc close to the edge to cap him in the head.

Once the turkey shoot ends, dismount the roof and went into the building. A few lone hold outs and some goofy NPC named Linda I think. Took them out and then sneaked around to the front of the police station. Watch out, a couple of die hards with shot guns remaining.

Hi Everyone [] (My first Post) Smile

I played JA2 a few years ago and i've only downloaded JA2UC a few days ago and already putted my self at work :armsfolded:

Well Here's a tip For calisto c13 sector when you have dealt whit tha regular troops wanna deal with the cops in 2 turns ?
well just place your 4 mercs ( I hired Gus From AIM, "rosebut" and the "dog" and have my IMP merc)near the cops and I mean really near them, I had my imp inside the northwest building where there are 2 cops and the others dristibuted near the remainig just outside.
Had my IMP character to do the firs Headshot on one (the others will refuse to shoot first :devilaugh: and then just choose when it turns to combat mode.. just shoot the others in the head or punch them out (you may try to steel their guns if you want to.. i didn't. well that's just it. oh thers another one inside the bathroom onde the adjacent building crack the door in stealth mode and deal wiht him :crossbones:

First off i wanted to tell that my squad is comprised of a sniper(coustom merk/aks-74u), Cliford Highball(rys-u) and Rosebud(aek-919k). First i wanted to share a good tactic to take out any subway, or at least the Calisto one. Put ure sniper/stelth merc into stealth and use the subway. Try and kill one enemy then use the subway again. Get any medical care u need and repeat the procedure taking on 1 enemy at a time. If it's getting crowded take 1-2 extra mercs and dont move. when u get some space to move without ure ass getting holed try and spread.

OK now i need help: with the mercs from above going from c13 to b13,fighting both the enemy's and the police, is it possibile to win?...i tried like 5-6 dayz and i still havent gone further than the car lot. And where do i get any new charecter non-aim/merc.
PS:Ure probaly wandering why i dont get any extra mercs? Simple....i dont have any guns to spare...

Hi,

After clearing this sector, I discoverd the stairway down to a "lab" looking area. Down there I found a bunch of doors I could not open, as well as a scientist who did not give me anything to go on. I know I should do something here but I am not sure what, and I don't want to move on till I know that I have really finished, and if I need to worry about getting into all those rooms.

thanks in advance for any help here
JBF

Yeah i am in the same posistion. I found the lab and could get in through all the doors. There isnt much loot down here. but a few odds and ends stuff. There is a scientist called brains who was the warden's husband in JA2. It was my impression that he wanted me to retrieve some crepaton slime for him. So i went through the doors which are next to him and it took me into the bug caves. There are two chests right when you get down there. One has mustard gas and the other has the green elixer you used to be able to get from gabby. I tried to give that to brains but he wouldnt take it. There is no queen down there and no nothing. However i did find a nice gun and some rare ammo my first trek through the caves. Its a little bit of a maze, but its worth the trip. I just havent really figured out what to do about brains. But if you can get through some of the doors it sure wouldnt hurt.

I found a npc named Paul, standing just close to Betty in Betty shop. What about him ?
He don't want to be recruited and he seems to like Rock music. Is there special item for him or a particular quest ?

Paul's role is to tell that ambassador Blair has been taken to prison. It's been considered a big breakthrough for your mission - now you know what to do next Smile I've been messing around with UC hybrid version lately and talking to Paul gave level bonus to everybody around - I had just got Skitz and Reuben out of looney bin and they got +5 to level. Others with lvl > 1 got less, but the whole bunch has now lvl 5 or 6, not bad for day 5.
