Why is it not possible to put explosives (TNT, C4 and the like) into the A.L.I.C.E., nor is it possible to carry ammo in there, despite the item description for the backpack saying otherwise? (I think) Is this some sort of odd hard-coding in the game, or a somewhat odd choice by the designers? Is there maybe a tool out there that I can use to change what is and is not carry-able in the backpacks/armor pockets. I'd really like my explosive guy to carry some extra explosives, and a box of 5.56 ammo would be a nice addition to any backpack. I couldn't reload in battle very well, but at least I'd have some more when they're all dead.

Hi Jerry,
the reason why it's not possible to put explosives into the A.L.I.C.E. is because Ja2 don't support second level attachments - meaning that if you put for example a TNT with a detonator into the A.L.I.C.E. backpack the detonator will disappear, without a trace. This also is the case with all attachments - otherwise I would have made guns attachable also. With this in mind you got to see it from my perspective - how many of you players do you think would want my head on a plate after they lost their precious rod-and-spring equipped favourite handgun...?! And you bet they hadn't saved for a long time.... And the same goes for every item that supports attachments. They will be lost forever if they are attached to another item.

The ammo is a different matter. They autoload when they're removed from being attached to something. So, if you have your box with 120 rounds of 5,56 mm and you add it to for example the Striker vest. When you remove it, it's no problem - the box will contain 120 rounds. But if you've used some of them - so that you only have 19(?) rounds left in this 120 round box. You put it in your Striker vest and then when you remove it - suddenly it will be full again - with 120 rounds. See how powerful this is!? Unlimited ammo!

And also, which ammo would I choose to be attachable? I can't have them all attachable - each type and size takes one attachment slot - and there is a upper limit to the amount (we didn't have the source code back then). So, believe me - I really tried to get these things to work in the game, but it was impossible. Sorry.

Makes perfect sense to me. I thought it might be something along those lines, but I thought I'd ask anyway. A boy can dream. It's a truly great game, though. I'm thoroughly impressed so far.
