How possible would it be to implement shrapnel into JA2? I've always been irritated that the only thing that can damage you in an explosion is the actual explosion. you can have a merc standing right by where a grenade has just gone off, and they have no need to duck. If shrapnel can't be implemented, it'd at least be better to have a large area around an explosion where mercs are blown off their feet - as if there is a giant stun grenade attached to everything explosive.

Yes, that's true.
I'm somewhat doubtful about shrapnel, it would be far too deadly and make the game too easy or frustrating. Shrapnel should be limited to a reasonably small radius, and mercs (and enemies) should have a chance of taking (automatically) cover (chance depending on agility/dexterity).
But explosions are definitely a pityful sight in JA. Has anyone had something big explode at a (reasonably) small distance? You get a fireball, but also a almost compact shockwave of searing hot air loaded with gravel, not to mention you're deaf and stunned for quite some time. The "giant stun grenade" is IMHO an *excellent* idea.
