No, that what they said "before" announcind the release of the source code. I wonder if now, after seeing UC, SFi hasn't decided to allow them extra time to play with the sources and add some REAL improvements.

Although... if they had done that and they were sure JA2:W would've been a success, they wouldn't have released it together with the source code as a enticement.

But as I said, I won't be buying those CDs for any mod. Working with the sources will be the real gain. Discovering the bits the guys at Sirtech disabled and working to perfect those, adding extras to the code... A dream come true...

Just imagine a simple fact: we will finally be able to add new types of body and movable vehicles.

But I think the real goal would be to make JA2 moddable. As Chris advised, move the data that is now hardcoded in the exe and put it in external modifiable files. That would be the most important project. Then add multiplayer.

My sentiments exactly. I can't see myself even stopping to glimpse at the mod if there's source code to explore! It's just too big of a dream come true! Very Happy

*nods* Yeah, I agree with priority #1 being externalizing the data. As I've posted in a few other places, my weapon editor is going to break the instant people start making changes to the source code, and there's just no way I'd be able to keep fixing it for every new change.

As much as I want multi-player, I agree that's #2.

Wildfire? Well, I think his first mod wasn't even out for half a day and people were already complaining bitterly about how his ideas of "realism" conflicted with theirs.

I suppose if I were him, I'd have felt annoyed with the reaction too, and maybe become possessive of all the work I'd put in.

*shrugs* Granted, this is all hypothetical, since I only knew him from the postings on the old Tactical Planet forums...

The enemy ai changes could mean he's using the gold binary with the ub changes to ai. I hope so actually because the ub ai gives a much more interesting fight most times. No cheezball tactics to lure all the enemies into a kill zone like the old ja2 binaries had.

Mmm...

Sounds like some more people who need to lighten up a bit :nono: (unless their programming skill is comparable).

I'm playing UC with JA2 Gold and haven't had any problems, yet (that I've noticed, anyway).

I pre-ordered Wildfire and am looking forward to playing it.

You people complain... anything new in the world of JA2 is worth playing, even if it's bad. But, for what I've seen on WF, it looks nice.

It's nearly impossible to make anything bad with The JA2 Engine.

Well said, I agree fully. Wildfire looks interesting, it's only $20, and like you said, anything new in the world of JA2 is a good thing. Besides, I am going to need something to play when I finish UC so I have few doubts that it will be added to my collection.

Yeah, unless you know how to program this kind of a project, you should just keep your mouth shut. I suppose I could learn how do this kind of a mod, but I'm too busy playing games (plus I'm a bit of a lazy bastard) :biglaugh:  :headbanger:

So when someone else knows more about a subject than you do, you should agree or shut up? Absolute nonsense.

And I also disagree that everything that reads 'JA2' can only be good and should be bought. That's a general statement, I'm not saying JA2:Wilfire is bad (how would I know, it's not out yet, right?).

Anyway,
read this on the I-deal games news page:
Quote:

i-Deal Games is pleased to announce that Jagged Alliance 2: Wildfire has gone gold.
 Gold? I am pretty sure you need 500.000 sales to reach "Gold". In music anyway. Did they lower that standard for software or are they talking bullshit. Or did Popov preorder his own game 480.000 times? Very Happy

'Gold' here supposedly refers to the color of the production CD master, and therefore production start. At least thats what I heard.

Actually going " Gold " unless I am really flipping out simply means that it is finalized and ready for duplication. No more testing or work is being done as it is in a finished state.

Actually, I was referring to those who would download a mod (for free no less) play the game, then complain about it. There are some people who do that (NO NAMES will be mentioned here) :nono:

My point is that some people just don't understand the time that must be invested in such a project.

All I'm trying to say here is don't over-generalize my comment...

Well i already "got it" and i'm playing now. Do i have a premiere here as the first Wildfire playing Dutchie or what Wink Untill now UC is still beating Wildfire on all fronts. But maybe there are some positive remarks later on.

To give an example of a big WTF!? During the first cutscene (the one where you leave Omerta and Elliot informs Deidranna of your arrival) Elliot isn't there (in the cutscene) So basically you will have Deidranna and Elliot talking and Deidranna will slap Elliot...but there's no Elliot Very Happy so she's slapping in mid-air...

Also i remember someone commenting the wrong use of English by looking at a screenshot in the inventory screen and seeing the word Hospital to what was suggested to be the large Medikit. Well guess what? It's a inflatable hospital and this sucker weighs 55 lbs or something. Carrying it means you will be around 60% of your weight without armor and weapons. :bawling:
